Coloccini Saga Still Drags On

The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle  United and Deportivo La Coruna have agreed a fee close to £10M fee for Argentinian defender Fabricio Coloccini.

fabricio-coloccini-_786989c.jpg

Fabricio Coloccini – still not officially signed

That hardly seems like new news, but nevertheless the move will no go ahead once the 26-year-old defender passes a medical at St James’ Park. He also needs to agree personal terms with Newcastle, but we think that’s already been handled with the player and his agent.

Deportivo issued a statement last night on their web-site, saying Coloccini was a Newcastle player and the Chronicle is quoting today the following statement from the Spanish club:

“Real Club Deportivo and Newcastle have agreed the transfer of Fabricio Coloccini to the English club.”

“The clubs had reached a verbal agreement last week which was today confirmed in writing.”

It’s a good job this transfer doesn’t take as long as the normal move – otherwise we’d be hard pressed to bring in even one more player before the end of the season.   😀

It will only be official once it’s announced on the Newcastle official site , and as we write this – there’s nothing on that site about Coloccini finally signing.

When he does sign, Fabricio will become Newcastle’s most expensive defender ever, taking the mantle from Jonathan Woodgate.

Comments welcome.

This club just astonishes me at times.

It really shouldn’t take this long to sort this transfer out.

There has to be things behind the scenes that we don’t know about but my worry is, the longer it takes to sort out and the more it’s in the public eye as an ‘unfinshed’ transfer, then the chances of other clubs putting in higher bids/wages etc increases 1o fold.

P.S. the other player we will sign I’m sure of is Shorey.

Ed, Deportivo today confirmed that he is a Newcastle player. I’d be inclined to believe them over Alan Oliver. Deportivo say, on the front of their official newspaper that gets sent out to season ticket holders:

    http://www.canaldeportivo.com/servlet/es.iris.servlets.DeporSport/5/2008/08/07/1

    Translated:

Coloccini is now officially the Newcastle.

The player went yesterday to the headquarters of the club to sign his release form. Today he will give a press conference and in the evening he will travel to his new destiny.

this makes me more inclined to believe big willie as he said yesterday that smith would be left out of the game and he would be going to everton

    http://www.shieldsgazette.com/nufc/Alan-Smith-on-his-way.4368383.jp

so maybe 2 signings will be announced 2day?

Depor and Newcastle have signed the transfer papers, so he is ours unless we cant agree terms or he fails the medical. Depor cannot pull out.

    So chill.

The Depor magazine this morning has confirmed it.

    Its over. He’s ours.

Tez131 – nope, you’re right, looks like we’re not signing him.

All I got was news through that Shorey was in talks with at least one club. If Villa have come out public, then they’re pretty confident he’s their player.

Shame, although he’s quite small, he’s pretty good.

Still, leaves the door open for someone better – Drenthe would be good.

Yeah. Otherwise, it would be a hell of a waste of time and energy.

And has anyone heard the news that we may still be in the running for Carlos Cuellar?

    Just think of the defence:

    Beye–Coloccini–Cuellar–Warnock

    😀

Drenthe would rather sit on the bench week-in-week-out than come to us. That’s fact. We have a better chance of signing Rafinha from Shalke 04, than Real’s Drenthe.

Shorey’s gonna sign for Villa. Benayoun’s going to Roma. These players would have been great additions for us. I find our transfer activity frustrating & strange this summer.

bucks_mag and everyone else – bassong has signed, he has had an article on nufc.co.uk saying that a fee was agreed, terms were agreed, and he passed a medical, and he had several articles of keegan saying what a good signing he was. He is signed. Done. Caput. His squad profile is on nufc.co.uk under players under number 46 if you need any more proof.

since we have put in place our new recruitmant (ha) team, i think we have gone backwards on everything. its a joke how long its taking to sort deals out………still no spears either!! its been a shit year for us i think and a poor closed season for defo. i am still stunned we have not signed owen up yet – the closer we get to january the less chance we have of signing him up again, that much must be clear. why is it taking so long to sort out this oluccini deal, KK says there are still things to reslove and it could be anther 2 days – jesus!!

Oh the amount Im sick of how long transfers take pales into insignificance next how sick to the back teeth of listening to you utter miserable b*stards rabbit on about things you know nothing about.

The reason things take so long is a simple equation:

[How terrible a season we just had x chaos at club] / [no european football x zero international reputation] x quality of players we’re trying to sign x [the whole football industry being of it’s head at how much players are worth x every club taking an eternity to sign players] = How long it takes us to sign a player.

Arshavin the player you all rubbed yourselves silly about at the Euros is still sitting without a deal weeks later. In fact every big transfer touted this year either hasn’t been completed or took an age to complete.

When he signs he signs. 24 hour news make everything seem along time- there could be a thousand reasons why it’s take just over a week to tie up. All this impatience is dilluting the fact he is coming. The club haven’t misled anybody, only Keegan saying “in the next 24hours” hopefully we’ll have a new signing. If it takes this long and it gets done, that is a quality defender coming here, then well done Wise and co, fantastic job. They’ll have got Guitterez and Guthrie on the quiet, Bassong on a well organised trial and sign and now the Big C. Look at Everton, Portsmouth, Man.City, Villa until maybe today, Blackburn- no big business really. I reckon Wise’s lot are doing great. After all Modric and I think Aimar didn’t want to come here, as Aimar said” i have always been lucky enough to choose where i want to go” after joining Benfica. So let’s not get caught up in modern Blog world and blame other people for living and carry out deals in real time- that Deportivo Chairman is probably a nightmare to do business with.

The same way that I told you at 1pm yesterday that a bid had been accepted for Smith and that he had been called to the training ground at 10am to be informed of this and that he would take no part in the PSV game.

He is currently having a medical at Everton
