Coloccini Reported On Tyneside For Medical

2:20 pm, Friday, August 8th, 2008 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 73 Comments

Argentine defender Fabricio Coloccini has finally arrived in Newcastle, to complete his £10M transfer to Newcastle United.

Fabricio Coloccini - a Newcastle player today?

That’s the really good news reported in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today.

We know that Newcastle and Deportivo La Coruna agreed the fee in writing yesterday, and we understand now that Fabricio has finally arrived on Tyneside.

Coloccini will of course have a medical and then sign along the dotted line. We believe the terms that Newcastle will offer the Argentine will be no problem, so hopefully (and how many times have we said this) he could be signed today.

But Coloccini is a good player, and while he has never played in the Premier League, he is such an outstanding talent, that we have to hope he will settle in quickly at the club.

Coloccini has been training with the Deportivo Junior squad, while the rest of his first-team colleagues are in Venezuela for pre-season training.

Once the player signs, the first thing for Newcastle is to get his fitness assessed with Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan and top fitness coach Mark Hulse.

The very first thing obviously is whether he should get a haircut.

They will then decide whether Coloccini will make his debut tomorrow, but we doubt this very much, even though the opposition is a team he knows well from the Spanish League – Valencia.

Let’s get the player signed first, and then he can get to know his colleagues and watch the match from the stands tomorrow.

First things first.

Comments very welcome.

The saga continues…. wonder if he’ll be there or even in the team tomorrow?

    Atleast Oba’s back and Zog.

If he doesn’t sign today I’m going to think there must be complications somewhere along the line. It’s dragging on to long now!

About bleeding time .. maybe he got held up at the hairdressers .. it took a week to perfect the perm..

  • 8 Tom_Toon // Aug 8, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Apparently its just the medical because he has agreed personal terms otherwise he wouldn’t be calling it ‘the contract of his life’.

  • 9 Mrjay // Aug 8, 2008 at 2:25 PM

I can confirm that he is in the N.E as I nearly bumped into him at the Hospital this morning. That was at 8:30 ish. Was with another fellow/young lad and a smart lass! And yes he has had a haircut!!! On another note there was another footballer ther just after dinner time but didn’t get to see his face. Will keep the news flowing as it comes.

  • 10 TooooooN // Aug 8, 2008 at 2:25 PM

good player good move. no premiership experience hopefully he can adapt fast. More competition in CB, might put faye as a replacement for defensive midfielder…..

Collocini-faye-cacapa-taylor-bassong -> competing for two places! that sound good for the team :)

  • 11 xfer // Aug 8, 2008 at 2:27 PM

About time this is sealed. Most important signing by far for a few seasons now. Defence has been a priority for far too long now.

  • 12 MMNUFC // Aug 8, 2008 at 2:28 PM

well if he has had a haircut it must have been last night then because when he did the press conference yesterday which i have seen he was still smarting the magnificent perm.

Kevin Keegan has promised the fans that he is confident of announcing a couple of new arrivals before the transfer window closes, and according to a source close to the club, one of them is Eren Derdiyok.

The young Basle striker has been at the top of Keegan’s list all summer and he made an early bid for the Switzerland international to test the waters

So sick of this now. Got my ticket for Valencia thinking another new signing would be playing. Probably not going to happen. Sick of the recruitment team pissing about.

I see we have a new silver 3rd kit, what the hell for? What colour strip is going to clash with black white and purple so we need to wear silver? Money grabbing Tw@t mike ashley.

How many of you have acctually seen this guy play. iv heard it too many times before, ‘great player’, amazing talent’.

if he is soooo good why did ac milan ditch him? he must not produce top form consistantly and maybe he finds it hard to bed in to countries with foreign language.

just out of interest, how come we are the only team to have made an approach? and still seem to be paying over the odds for a prem unknown….

are you sure u r not all jumping on the band wagon, lets judge aftyer he plays… full trust in KK, just not sure about how much say he has.

MA, DW Jiminez etc…. too many cooks!!

Fabricio Coloccini today finally completed his charity walk from Argentina to SJP via La Coruna. The Argentinian centre back walked from his family home in South America to old club Deportivo to collect his last few belongings before walking on to the north of England to complete his switch to north-east giants Newcastle United in a £10millon deal. It is reported that alot of money has been raised for lot football charities in England and his homeland Argentina.

Firstly, Collocini WAS at the Nuffield for a medical!!! Secondly, the other player was sat in a hidden position from me but he was there for a medical, for whom I don’t know. I won’t spread any rumours but the player could have been there for us or the scum as they use the hospital too! Diouf and the Spud players were here last week.

Tomorrow will be a good indicater, i remember Enrique was in the stand watching us play against PSV (may have wrong team) in a pre-season friendly and signed shortly after that.

Newcastle are a different kettle of fish these days under Ash and will not bow down to any public pressure for information before its 100 % complete.

The signs are good and i would expect him to be wearing the black and white shirt against Man U.

I just hope hes good enough, i understand he big and physical but we need a thinker not a plonker next to Taylor or Faye as they are both big and phyiscal.

Anyway hes another player and i should be thankfull for that.

The Smith move may also be benefical to all parties if we can bring in a quality striker (Derdiyok, hopefully)

    ATTENTION ALL MAC USERS

    Hey there

I’ve phoned Techinal support about the Apple issue and NUFCTV. They confirmed it is set up for Mac users to be able to watch it. But that you need certain codecs in order to do so. Some Macs will obviously have these on others don’t.

If you email them, they will tell you which codecs to use based on the problems you are having. For example some Mac users are getting full pictures but no sound. I initially got sound and no pictures, but it’s now working properly. I believe FLIP4Mac works 99 times out of 100, certainly works for me.

  • 61 Frankieboy // Aug 8, 2008 at 5:27 PM

Those stats are very impressive heronmag, note the tackles made ??
Bearing in mind anyone playing in our back four in recent seasons have been on the back foot for majority of the time so obviously they will be making a greater no. of tackles.
The great central defenders can be man of the match having never had to make a tackle or even touch the ball a great no. of times purely due to their ability to read the game and their positional sense. Collucinis stats look more than ok to me.
Think KK should start next weekend pairing Collucini and Faye with Taylor having to settle for bench.(IF we do actually sign him)

  • 62 AndyT // Aug 8, 2008 at 6:06 PM

    Beye Collocini Faye Enrique
    Backed up by
    Edgar Taylor Cacapa Bassong

And with the likes of Kadar and Tozer pushing them from the youth set up as well. Its a long time since our defense looked that decent.

Now time to get some goal makers/scorers.
Although if Duff can get anywhere near his potential again, and there’s at least a glimmer of hope with a good pre-season behind him and the form he’s been showing that would be as good as another midfield signing. Pushing Smith out to Everton and replacing him with Derdiyok would be a great move.

  • 63 normski1930z // Aug 8, 2008 at 6:11 PM

i hope our back four can jel into a solid unit but i would still like that get out of jail card which is a dm that will just sit like makelele or batty….

  • 68 Fergie // Aug 8, 2008 at 7:53 PM

The deal for Coloccini is for €11.5m, potentially rising to €13m after appearances and we are to play in the Teressa Herrera Trophy tournament. The deal also includes a small percentage sell on fee.

Source: Depor Sport (official Deportivo Magazine. Issue: Saturday 2 August 2008, pages 2&3)

The friendly tournament is played towards the end of August, so I would expect that we would participate next year… but you never know, maybe we will send a team over in a few weeks! Its a bit last minute though and since the tournament is held in high regard due to the teams that are invited to take part there is no chance we would be sending over a bunch of reserves.

The article also said that the deal would be signed over last weekend, that Coloccini would give his press conference on Monday morning to the Coruñes press and then fly to Newcastle to complete his medical in the afternoon (“El futbolista viajará a Ingleterra el lunes para pasar el reconocimiento médico con el Newcastle United”). This was obviously delayed for a few days for some reason though.

  • 69 Tom // Aug 8, 2008 at 7:57 PM

Scott, Carroll is injured. I’d go for Donaldson up front, give him a start!! Or Zamblera, if he is fit and rested after the U-19 Euros. Think Faye is still getting back to fitness after an injury too.

  • 70 Rortonjibes // Aug 8, 2008 at 11:34 PM

He’s been at the Jesmond Dene House all day. Was in for a coffee this afternoon and he was there with another bloke and a lass. He has had his hair chopped although it is not too short, a trim lets say (tidied up!). I spoke to the concierge and apparently he’ll be staying in one of the houses off the dene until he settles in NE. Have no idea why his signing has not been announced but seems a formality. Here’s hoping.

  • 71 nufcazz // Aug 9, 2008 at 12:11 AM

i think Mladen Petric from Borussia Dortmund would be a good buy. he strong and quick and he can take some quality free kicks too. also he can play either forward or attacking mid.

he was interested in a move to the shethole down the road, so thats means any team in the world have a chance.

    what ya think???

  • 72 Budgie // Aug 9, 2008 at 12:15 AM

Planned to go to the PSV game to see Coloccini, then thought Id wait until Valencia game, looking like we may not make the signing, at this rate for the Man U game, suppose it would be easier if he went straight to the Argentina friendly and with a bit of luck might sign before the transfer deadline!

I notice the apperwork is reportedly not through for Guiterez yet, will he be registered in time to make the Man U game?
Wonder if there are any jobs going in admin at NUFC…….

  • 73 Tom_Toon // Aug 9, 2008 at 12:35 AM

Budgie – If that was the case with Gutierrez he would not have been able to play for us against Hertha and PSV.
