Owen’s First Game Will Be At Old Trafford

It looks like Michael Owen’s very first start for Newcastle this campaign will be in next Sunday’s first league game at Old Trafford.

Michael Owen – will get some match practice next week

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan spoke about Owen earlier today with the Evening Chronicle:

“Michael’s first game for us will be Manchester United at Old Trafford next weekend.

“He will be fit, and he will be match fit, because we’ll have a practice game between ourselves or against somebody.”

“But Valencia is two or three days too soon.”

It’s not the best preparation in pre-season for Michael, but at least it will be the first time Michael has played in Newcastle’s first league game of the season, since he arrived three years ago from Real Madrid.

So we’ll take that – but it may (will) take Michael a few games to get his sharpness back, and if we have any other fit strikers available next Sunday, he’s likely be taken off after around an hour of play.

But we should be well ahead by then in any case.   😀

We do also expect Newcastle to sign another striker soon, with Smith on his way to Everton – if they can afford his wages – so we may sign one before the first game at Manchester United.

It’s not the best news about Michael – but we’ll take it because at least he’ll be physically fit for the game – if not match fit – and Michael is without doubt an important player for the club right now.

Comments welcome.

Does ne1 think we should sell MO as i dont think he is gonna sign a new contract regarding ashleys new wage structure and in 6 months he can sign a pre contract and a hefty joining fee? .

NUFC: Shay Given, Habib Beye, Jose Enrique, Claudio Cacapa, Steven Taylor, Nicky Butt, Danny Guthrie, James Milner, Jonas Gutierrez, Damien Duff, Oba Martins

Subs: Charles N’Zogbia, Alan Smith, Geremi, David Edgar, Fraser Forster, Kazenga LuaLua, Sebastien Bassong

Only surprise is Smith being on the bench : (

    I think it’ll be a
4-2-3-1 Formation Which should be very attacking.

Surely Bassong has shown enough to get a start ahead of Cacapa. I would rather see Taylor replaced but his performance in the last match was good i suppose and maybe they want to see if he can build on it.

I’d love to see that formation Midjew. With Butt and Guthrie sitting, let Guthrie spray the passes around. Gutirrez on one wing, Milner on the other and Duff through the middle, let them swap around as they like to confuse the Valencia defence, and Martins burning away up front! 😀

I’ll be happy to see Owen fit for our 1st game lads, lets not piss about here he’s our main goal threat & our main man! IF he can stay fit for the majority of the season we’re looking at 20+ goals IMO, comon toon lets get behind the skipper! dont think he wants to leave think he’s happy & we can help him sign his new deal by cheering for him as loud as we can!

Read an article talking about each club, and named the “key player” and “one to watch” from each club. In the bit about Newcastle, the “one to watch” was Jonas, and the “key player” was Owen. Didn’t know this, but only Ronaldo, Torres and Adebayor scored more goals in the second half of last season than did Michael Owen (notably, all play for teams that are “Big 4”). And that includes that miserable run of January-March.
