Danny Guthrie has been talking to the Sunday Sun quite a bit and he talks today about his former club Liverpool, and how much he loves working with Kevin Keegan, at Newcastle.

Danny Guthrie - Keegan is brilliant to work with
Guthrie insists the Newcastle United football club bears comparison with the very biggest:
“I was at Liverpool for seven or eight years — I grew up there — so to leave for anywhere else is a big change.”
“But I can see very big similarities between here (Newcastle) and there.”
“You can judge the size of a football club by its fans, and the attitude of the city and the people here to football is so similar to Liverpool.”
“This is a football city. It’s the main topic of conversation — everyone has an opinion on it.”
“But the thing here is that everyone is obsessed with just one club, rather than two like in Liverpool or Manchester.”
“That, the way the ground sits looking down on the town, the amount of people walking around in black and white shirts . . . everything about it is big.â€
Some would say that football isn’t the main topic of conversation in the city - it’s the only topic of conversation in Newcastle - apart from the beer, of course.
And Guthrie seems to have formed a tremendous working relationship with his manager Kevin Keegan, and he has great respect for the former Liverpool and England legend.
Guthrie believes Newcastle now have a manager capable of matching the very best, as he continued:
“Kevin Keegan is just brilliant to work with. As soon as I met him, we got on.”
“Even in training, he is so positive that players just spark off him. It’s a pleasure to come in every day.”
“I just can’t wait to be in the dressing room before the manager gives his team talk and I walk out at a full St James’ Park.â€
Danny was finally asked if he had any regrets that he finally had to leave Liverpool:
“I always hoped it would happen for me there, even as recently as a few months ago, having done well at Bolton.”
“But they (Liverpool) have got a lot of players in central areas and the gaffer wanted to strengthen again this summer.”
“As I say, it still needed a good offer for me to want to leave.”
We’ll have to see how Danny does this season, as it will not be easy for him, but if he follows the guidance and advice of Kevin Keegan, he cannot go far wrong.
Comments welcome.

Many comments about this lad said, “Im so underwhlemed”.
I was very excited about this and I still am because he could prove to be a bargain.

Cannot fault his attitude, commitment and so far his class… He is a GEM.

Get the season under way already, can`t wait to see how we get on,lots of enthusiasm now though after some positive displays
4 the black magpie // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:12
i must say i have been impressed with this lad, he talks some sense and appears to have candor- he was up for a fight for a Liverpool place- rafa made the decision
attributes- he is clean and tidy with the ball doesnt lose the ball cheaply- and he was consist in this even when he faded from the pre season games that i saw
oh yeh and he can cross his free kick for DUFFS HEADER was straight into the danger area
and he scored as well- Gerrard -esqu in our ranks i dont know- im a fully blooded toon, but Steven Gerrard has been my fav player ever since he broke out (he shuld be England cptn) he has a long way to go because he will have to show consistency and that is the only valid test
if he can get us 8 or more goals then i think we are onto a winner
5 Nenad // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:12
It’s important that he keeps his feet on the ground in order to progress as a footballer. Therefore, I hope he isn’t reading your blog, Ed
Just in case he does: Give your all every time, Danny lad, and you’ll always have home in Newcastle. Good luck!

8 Ericles // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:22
This lad was able to tick all of Ashley’s boxes by the sound of it. The sort of player to stay for years and help win the trophies. As long as he takes it all in his stride we have a gem.
9 Nobby's Dad // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:30
Strange how after yesterday’s game and the imminent signing of Coliccini those who seem hell bent on posting negative comments have disappeared. Where are HPS / SJtoon and all those who knock everything about the club? Truth be told they want Ashley to fail IMO just so they can say ‘we told you so’.
To the rest - Keep the faith!!
10 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:31
i said that too Nobby, the majority are feeling a lot more positive now and it is a good thing, all it takes is a little communication eh.

Poor Smith. I think we all said the same when he signed last year.

Toon1978 - let us hope so. Derdiyok would be ideal as a hard working striker who often gives assists to play next to Oba and owen.
Nobby’s Dad - I have to admit that I also posted more and more negative comments aboput Ashley. Now that he has given an interview I’m not worried anymore; he will do good with our beloved club. The thing that made me and others so angry was the fact that we seemed to miss every player and that the club was totally not communicating to its fans.

41 Tom_Toon // Aug 10, 2008 at 23:05
I was just over the fence towards Ashley the whole time simply because of the foundations he put in place and still am, however i feel much more optimisitc since watching Gutierrez v PSV
42 Scotty 1986 // Aug 10, 2008 at 23:07
Why is everone down beat We have cleared 90% of the dead wood out of our club ( carr , Baba , Rozenhal , dyer , bernard , bowyer ) now we only have ameobi left and maybe smith, but we have replaced them with good quality youth.
Mix the youth with the wise heads of Butt , Given , Geremi & Owen and we might be a little shocked this year maybe top eight is a realistic goal.

46 Tom_Toon // Aug 10, 2008 at 23:12
Not i mean just over, like i said.
I wasn’t so over that i thought he was God or he was the best thing that has happened to us but i wasn’t so against him that i wanted him to sell up. Slightly closer to te god side than sitting on the fence.
47 Tom_Toon // Aug 10, 2008 at 23:13
Ye Ross but i thought he was better vs PSV to be honest, still top yesterday though, love it how he tries to run through players when he takes them on, not around them. Very powerful runner, fun to watch.
48 AndyNUFC // Aug 10, 2008 at 23:19
The reason why we love Gutierrez is because he does the one thing thing we never had for any games last season. He has the confidence to just run at people directly, take them on, and you know he’ll have a quality final ball as well.

54 Ross // Aug 10, 2008 at 23:36
T_T and andynufc-totally agree. he doesnt shy away or try and go round players, if theres a group, he’ll run right at them, he’s strong and skillfull enough to go through them, and if not, he wins the foul. he’ll play the ball, keep running, and look for it back. he works so hard by the looks of things, i was thoroughly impressed.

Chamakh doesnt score enough he is a good back-up target man though because he is very good at holding up a ball.
68 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2008 at 0:18
There wasn’t any talk of a white kid at the match though, but people were aware of a black kid at the match which people were rumouring who he was. If somebody went to somebody else, who had seen the picture,”seen that kid at the match we’re supposed to be signing?” it doesn’t distinctly identify him. However, if somebody said “did you see that black kid at the match?” it means you’re identify what he looks like.
How is it derogatory to call a black kid black, when he is actually black? That is suggesting that either the person is using it in an offensive way… Or that to be black is a disadvantage, which i’m sure you didn’t mean
I’m sorry, but I will never give in to political correctness, whether you tell me it’s wrong, or the police say it is, I will never refrain from describing things as they are.

Nice one mate, we’re both obviously entitled to our own opinions… But I win! haha joking.
Anyway I hope that High Flyer bloke is right about us signing Derdiyok. This transfer window has been all about signing the “next generation” of stars. Arsenal for Ramsey and Nasri, Liverpool with Ngog and them other weird sounding names, and I don’t think we’ve been left too far behind, if at all!
What really fills me with confidence though is the actual quality mixed the youth of the lads. On top of that, EVERY player we have signed has had the right attitude. Gutierrez is already a fan favourite, Bassong actually said if need be he’d wait on the bench to prove himself, Guthrie is saying all the right things, and Coloccini well… his hair’s lovely
And here’s some of us bloody worrying about the mackems signing Diouf and Malbranque! We surely won’t do worse then last season, and looking at the quality of the clubs these days, top half isn’t that small of an achievement really.
76 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 0:36
Andy
The media are trying to say the mackems are showing more ambition than us because they are spending big, what a joke. Why should we spend big on Spurs rejects? Diouf is a good player but you never know who is going to come out the tunnel with him, could be the quality, proven premiership player, or could be the below average sulker. Apart from him the rest of their signings are crap and i wouldnt even want them on our bench.

—————————————————————–
Twelve months ago it was the summer of Sam; this year it was meant to be the summer of love. Yet six days before Newcastle United begin their season with a testing visit to Old Trafford, certainty, stability and purpose are yet to be established at St James’ Park. This is a club with boundless potential, but a split personality, with a strong team and a threadbare squad.
For those supporters blessed (or cursed) with a buoyant outlook, the signs have rarely been rosier. No man taps into the Geordie psyche with more emotional resonance than Kevin Keegan, who, as a player and manager, twice previously persuaded Newcastle to reach for the stars. He is the ultimate salesman; he could charm insomniacs into dreaming. When Keegan succeeded Sam Allardyce in January, a city exhaled.
The optimists point to Mike Ashley and cheer. The owner is a billionaire with enough financial muscle to invest £250 million in the club, erasing a crippling, threatening debt. A man of the people, he sports his replica shirt in the boardroom and talks of having fun and winning trophies, but he will not be held to ransom by mediocre players. Fans have been reengaged, the academy attended to.
Yet the pessimists are not lacking material and what, after all, is the public perception of Newcastle’s close season? A failure to secure leading transfer targets such as Luka Modric, Arda Turan and Pablo Aimar. Relentless takeover rumours. Joey Barton’s imprisonment and subsequent release, when attempts to trim wages and impose discipline were blurred and botched.
Yes, Keegan is the right manager to reenergise the club, but why is there distance between him and the acquisition department? Does that really play to his strengths? Are Keegan and Dennis Wise, the executive director (football), pulling in the same direction? Who is making the decisions? Why has football’s greatest communicator not been encouraged to deliver a more upbeat message? Injuries are already a concern.
For those who tread a middle line, the overall effect is perplexing. Theoretically, Newcastle have never had it so good, but there is little sense of cohesion on Tyneside. In Majorca eight days ago, Keegan spoke with the same boyish enthusiasm that has characterised his professional life, but after Saturday’s 2-1 friendly victory at home to Valencia, the tone was different. It jarred.
Could he confirm that Fabricio Coloccini had completed his move from Deportivo La Coruña? “There’s nothing official,†Keegan said. “I can’t tell you anything at the moment, I don’t think. He was here, that’s for sure.†Earlier that afternoon, Ashley had been wearing Newcastle’s new change kit with the Argentina defender’s name on the back. Does it get more official than that?
Last week it was confirmed that Arthur Cox, a trusty Keegan lieutenant throughout his coaching career, had left the club. Was it retirement (Cox is 68) or cost-cutting? “He’s left the club,†Keegan said. “That’s it.†Is there any explanation? “No. He’s left the club.†Under Allardyce, Newcastle hoarded staff; now they are shipping them.
And what of Alan Smith, who appeared close to joining Everton after Keegan had stated that he did not wish to lose him and was then jeered against Valencia? “Alan Smith is a Newcastle player and that’s it,†Keegan said. “He’s a Newcastle player, no doubt about that. What happens in the future, you’ll be the first to know - you people usually know before we do.â€
The players are patently enjoying Keegan’s methods, but there are not enough of them. As James Milner, the Newcastle winger, put it: “We’ve got the ability in the squad, it’s about the numbers.†Two more weighty signings and a bit of good news - Michael Owen is scheduled to play in a practice match on Thursday - could transform the mood, but the omens are conflicting.
Is there momentum? And in which direction is it propelling the club?

i dont care how many players Villa,Spurs, Everton etc buy or how many of their arsehole fans come on here, the mackems will always be the worst for me, cant even stand seeing their pathetic shirt, it actually fills me with rage when i hear them on the radio
82 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2008 at 0:43
He’s saying all the right things in that article, and touches on exactly the only point i’m worried about the club; Dennis Wise is taking care of transfers and not Keegan. Yes, fair enough we’ve got some good ones in so far, but I just feel like we might be a bit more successful if Keegan is the man to sell the club to players.
83 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 0:45
Andy i heard MA cleared up Wises’ role in his new interview. Wise is in charge of finding and signing youth squad players e.g. Spear, Ranger etc
84 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2008 at 0:50
That’s good news. Doubt he would have even tried to clear up McDermott’s though! haha.
85 macakane // Aug 11, 2008 at 0:52
yep, Andy agree, i cant stand it as well, that Kevins hands, more or less ,are tied in transfers, if he could have some time with , for example, with Modric to take a tour around Saint James Park i think Modric would be playing with us right now. I have nothing against Dennis Wise, but Kevin still is one of the most charismatic figures in English Premier League. I have always been and am an optimist and with the players like Coloccini, Guthrie, Guttierez, Bassong and hopefully one more mc and st coming in, this summer aint so bad and i seriously doubt that we will get such nomination as worst and sixth worst buy of the summer (Smith and Jose Enrique).
86 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 0:54
‘McDermott..err…err..ye, he likes a drink. His position at the club? Errrrrrrrrrrr, ball collector at training for when Alan Smith skies the ball’.

nobbys dad….i would be one of the ones that you mention. unlike many others though - i am still not happy with the way things are. sorry dude but thats the way i feel. just cos we win a friendly eveyone is all europe here we come. this result changes nothing in my mind. it was only last week we got beat by doncaster - not so many chirpy blogs after that one eh!! nothing has changed since then other than this game. I am also curious why keegan refuses to say anything about colo when MA has his name on the back of the shift - its almost like KK has given in or something. just seems a bit funky.

We can’t have it both ways. Last time KK just about burned himself out. He was doing everything and McClown was no help. This time, KK just has to concentrate on coaching. Let the others take the strain and extend his shelflife.
89 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:06
Maybe KK just doesn’t want to say anything until its down in writing, there are a fair few managers who are like that e.g. Mark Hughes
Where has all this ‘KK is a victim of our board’ nonsense come from? the only place i can think of is the press. Stop believing what they say, it has been proven time and time again that they know absolutely nothing

91 The Second Coming // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:22
Colo’s Curly Locks…
I read that too and came on here to see if it caught anyone elses eyes. Such a balanced and informative piece!
Left me wondering how happy Keagan feels watching a team being built around him. With Cox leaving recently, KK might be a little isolated when it comes to squad selection. That must feel bad around the place.
I’m starting to wonder what influence Keagan DOES have at the club.
Any comments?
92 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:29
I think once we’re in some good winning form and see the smiley optimistic Kev really shine through again then we’ll be all calm. Maybe if even KK isn’t having that much say in transfers, are you bothered? I’m not. Whoever was down to the transfers this window is a smart man indeed. He must do though really, if he’s telling us he wants 3 more in. I’m starting to wonder whether he means 3 on top of the surely completed Coloccini deal.
93 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:34
He said Colo + 2
94 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:36
Andy i think he meant 2 more after Fabricio, he then added that that wont be the end in terms of transfers as he expects a few late departures and arrivals
Just read an article by the guardian, and that louise bird is havin another indirect/direct swipe at everything NUFC (yawn)
95 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:37
Ok thanks, just wasn’t sure really.
I’ll be disappointed if 1 of the 2 is another defender, unless a world class one haha.
Top priorities a central attacking midfielder and a striker.
96 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:38
Spyro - He doesn’t necessarily expect them involving our club, he just keeps saying we’ll see.
Lets just say Colo 2 are a given.
Im pretty sure Smith will leave too, well hopefully. Ameobi is Berbatov compared to Smith.
97 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:40
what he probably meant that after the three arrive, any player that leaves will be replaced
98 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:42
Doubt it if he hasnt planned it, there wont be enough time to initiate everything, i personally think he just means that they will look in the market an if there is a player they like going for the right price and they think it is beneficial they may buy him.
99 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:47
The staff will no doubt know who is likely to leave and probably have a few players in mind who can replace them if needed. I cant see any players leaving and not being replaced since we have lost 6 players and are set to sign 6. We wont want a smaller squad than last season thats for sure
100 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:50
Well the only player i see leaving is Smith and he ST coming in as part of ‘Colo 2′ will be his replacement, most probably Derdiyok.
Unexpected departures will be very hard to compensate for as much scouting must go in before so i recon if they see a bargain in the market that is offered to them, they make take it, doubt they’ll have enough time to search properly.
101 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:54
the thing is TT you think the only likely departure is Smith due to its media coverage. How do we know teams haven’t enquired about other players? Like i said, the staff will know who is likely to leave and they would have acted accordingly. I doubt Smiths replacement is part of the two coming in as that would make KK’s comments highly contradictory. He states that he wants to keep Smith whilst at the same time bringing in his replacement? i doubt that. Even if that were the case that would leave us with a smaller squad than last season and i doubt we would willingly go into the season shorter of numbers.
102 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:01
The squad is big enough, yes we could do with a few more players but even with the size it is now we are capable of handling a prem season IMO, too much of a fuss is being made of it. I would actually put money on Smith leaving before saturday, just watch this space.
Teams can make enquires but i dont think we will let anyone go who is needed. I just hope to god Smith goes, he makes Ameobi look like Ronaldo in his pomp.

i agree Smith will probably leave, i just dont agree that his replacement is one of the two signings KK mentioned…At least i hope not. Only time will tell, i hope his replacement isnt one of the two arrivals as i feel we need a LB & Midfielder regardless of whether Smith goes.
106 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:08
@ Milan
yeah i posted that link up on here earlier, made me chuckle i must say
107 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:09
No need for a LB IMO, We have Enrique, Bassong, Tozer, Kadar and Edgar who will play there.
Top priority is a striker, then an AM, then a LB and finally a DM.
We definitely need a striker, could do with an AM and the last two arent priorities until next season IMO.
108 Ganiyu // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:09
manchester united will crush us enerique is one of our weakness he would loose confidence easily.
109 Ever seen a mackem in Milan? // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:13
Enrique will be fine against Man U he isnt playing against Ronaldo this time either. Shame Rooney and Carrick are back
110 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:13
fair enough point about LB, didnt take into account a few of those players you mentioned.
I would rather a ST/AM and a CM/DM come in as i feel out and out AM’s can only be used in specific formations.
Im surprised you dont feel a CM/DM is priority. I dont want to see Butt playing every game as he takes away from out creativity in the middle. And even though KK did mention something about Guthrie playing there, Barton wont be back for a while which means Butt is an automatic starter.
111 Isaac Hunt // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:14
Looks like we’ve still got Owen for the next few months.
112 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:15
Enrique didnt do too bad against R0naldo last time i dont think, but maybe that was because Ronaldo played majority of the game in the middle
113 Tom_Toon // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:16
Butt is good enough for the majority of this season i feel, that why i think DM is a top prioity next season. We also have Geremi to who can do the job there.
Obviously i’d welcome a new DM but we have more pressing transfer before.
114 Ganiyu // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:16
taye taiwo wil keep him on d bench till his 30.by then he would b am experienced bench player
115 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:19

I just hope we dont get hit with our usual array of injuries
116 Spyro // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:21
A lot of people have unfairly turned on Enrique IMO, he has had a fairly bad pre season but he was good last season considering the circumstances, I feel it takes a brave player to come into the premier league from their country at the age of 21, into a squad where none of your team mates speak your language. Fair dues to him he came and got his head down, hasn’t complained about the climate or about being on the bench once
117 Ganiyu // Aug 11, 2008 at 2:22

it’s has got to be the fact that kev does know what is going on - but that kev isn’t letting the press know what’s going on that creates these stories.
i believe kev’s treatment of the journalists (apart from NUFC tv obviously) is a direct result of the press’s reaction to his post-chelsea match comments and it has nothing to do with his relationship with the backroom crew. He is just giving the press nothing so they make up discord.
122 ilkkatoon // Aug 11, 2008 at 4:32

Heard nothing re Taiwo however it could be that there is something big to announce, a player was brought to the training ground yesterday for photos to be taken by club photographer. Now I’d just like to come on here and say something. A few weeks ago I almost got laughed off the site cos I suggested I thought James Milner has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the country. Now Guthrie comes in, plays a few friendlies and some people are calling him the new Gerrard!
I’m not saying I’m not impressed by Guthrie - I am - Very Impressed! - But for me Milner has been our best player pre-season and I’d like to see some fans giving him the credit he deserves.
Sorry. Rant over.

another start to the week, toon still dont have any new players,in fact 2 of the players they have supposed to have signed, gutierrez they still dont have his registration he can’t play against man u, colollini still has’nt signed, KK does’nt even know why, also yet more stories of unrest behind scenes, what the hell is going on, its a shambles
133 Big Willie // Aug 11, 2008 at 9:20
Dick,
Its far from a shambles! Don’t believe everything you read in the gutter press
134 The Entertainers // Aug 11, 2008 at 9:23
I’m a huge Keegan fan, always will be, but he certainly does not know how to handle the press.
Recent examples include the the disagreement with Ashley last season, the remarks about Wise and co, his remarks about not being able to complete next season, his three or four word answers to questions about Cox and Colo! Unfortunatley there are many others.
It appears Kevs not 100% happy about the new set up, but this club has moved on and imo for the better.
Kevs always has been regarded as a great motivator and this is where his biggest strength is and Ashley wants him to concentrate on the first team and has removed everyother distraction from him, including transfers.
Im sure Kev has some input, but not the control he would like. But Ashley has set up a very professional looking scouting team / network and so far can anyone be upset with our signings since this was implimented ? Of course we all wish there were more arrivals, but at least there appears to be no panic buys for the sake of it, which have hurt us in the past.
The club have acted with more professionalism than ever before in my lifetime. Its now time for Keegan to buy into this philosophy and stops making errors the rags pick up on and use there normal spin to turn it into something its not.

140 James // Aug 11, 2008 at 9:34
The MAJOR signing theory:
XAVI - Publically states he wants to leave Barca, and is the Spanish Gerard. Long shot but EXACTLY the player we need.
Cost £25 million
CARDOZO - Benefica want to sell him and we had a £15 million bid turned down at the start of the summer (allegedly)
Cost = £20 million
BERBATOV - A lot of people still think Ashley is going to bid big for the Spurs man
Cost = £25 million
ARSHAVIN - Only Newcastle and Spurs being linked but Spurs refusing to bid the £24 million asking price….have Newcastle matched this bid?
Cost = £24 million
ARDA - Been linked with Newcastle for six months and if you believe reports earlier in the summer we had two bids turned down
Cost = £13 million
GOMIS - KK and the board all flew to watch him play before the Euros. The only player we know they’ve done this for.
Cost = £10-12 million
JOE COLE - Said to be surplus to requirements with KAKA on his way to Stamford Bridge
Cost = £15 million
141 toonfan1 // Aug 11, 2008 at 9:38
well it wont be another striker james so rule out gomis berba and cardozo. plus rule out xavi as he will not leave barca. arshavin is over priced for a 27 year old. it could be arda but i doubt it. i think it could be joe cole but he plays on the wings and what we dont need is another winger. he could play through the middle though

147 Lesh // Aug 11, 2008 at 9:52
Tell you what’s worrying me is that the press are building up a story that Kev’s isolated, communication between him and the two London-based directors is non-existant, there’s friction between him and Wise and that Ernie has the power. Wasn’t Wise’s brief to get the players Kev wants? Is he doing it?
Mike Ashley wants to build a successful NUFC, both in terms of entertainment and financial viability - fine and those desires are shared by all of the fans.
But, if Kev doesn’t get the signings and we begin to slide, I’m afraid that the crowd’ll not be calling for Kev’s sacking (ala Big Sam) - it’ll be calling for that of Mr Wise and Mr A will have succeeded in making himself extremely unpopular in record time! If that becomes the case, it’ll be a real shame.
Unless the fans see obvious sign[ing]s of the adventurous spirit shown in building his business empire, he’ll become not the saviour of NUFC but the one who made the Messiah walk.
Mike, if the press is right, it’s time for you to clash some heads together!
If it’s wrong, can we please see something that says all are signing from the same hymn sheet.

149 Edd Case // Aug 11, 2008 at 9:56
Im not so sure about another BIG signing.
Keegan will be pushing for that and will have done since he first got back. I mean, he brought in some fabulous players last time round - world record transfer fees etc - he’ll be wanting to do the same again.
Coloccini must be ours…
That Swiss striker may be a good signing, but he’s not a BIG signing is he?
James has mentioned a few names already and Joe Cole is one I’d not be suprised about but I can’t see it happening.
I still think Diego is a Keegan type player and I still think we’re in desperate need of creativity in the middle, so he fit’s the bill.
There’s a whole host of Dutch talent who I’m sure we could buy, Assiati, De Guzman etc, Kivuvu etc.
Still, trust in Keegan, I do - we’ll all find out soon enough.
Can’t see us breaking the world record transfer fee again though, not just yet anyway.

156 James // Aug 11, 2008 at 10:10
The thing about the Joe Cole story is that with the world cup qualifers about to start he knows he must be playing regular football to be in the England team, and he won’t get that at Chelsea.

A lot of NUFC fans aren’t renewing their season tickets because the media have successfully convinced them that we are showing no ambition, and that your ambition is always measured by the size of the cheque in your hand, its their way of getting back at us for not giving them any stories.

It’s so obvious that something major is happening… Keegan does know what is going on!
In the press conference he looked over to his right because he knew he wasn’t allowed to say anything about Colicinni and was just confirming with a newcastle spokesman…it’s obvious he wanted to say something but couldn’t.
He wants to announce a group of signings together when they’re all done!
get in there !!!!
169 James // Aug 11, 2008 at 11:32
Capello said when the world cup qualifers started that anyone not playing regular first team football every week would not get near the England team.
That’s why Crouch and Defoe left bigger clubs to go to Portsmouth.
So don’t be surprised if Cole WANTS to leave Chelsea (he’ll never play every game with Kaka coming)

If I was a betting man, I’d say it was XAVI or JOE COLE.
Both were left out of their last pre-season games (not even on the bench)
Both would stun the world of football.
Spanish press and Sunday newspapers are linking us with XAVI.
People in and around SJP are linking us with JOE COLE.
176 CRAIGG // Aug 11, 2008 at 12:29
I would absolutely love Joe Cole, We could offer him the chance to play behind the strikers (His personal fave position) and he can play in a variety of other positions too.
But arent we dreaming here ?
Surely their would be interest from Liverpool, West Ham, Spurs, Pompey, Villa maybe Arsenal or Man Utd all of which are more attractive than us at present.
Also if those players signed i would have thought he was more versatile and useful than Malouda and Kalou.
Would Love it , Never going to happen
177 James // Aug 11, 2008 at 12:34
Craigg - He’d never go to Man Utd, and the others can’t afford him. Spurs are too busy trying to get Arshavin in that position. Liverpool are trying to get Barry or Silva for that money.
And Joe knows there’s no point leaving Chelsea unless he can play every week….only the toon can offer this and afford him
