Owen Hoping To Make Old Trafford Game

August 10th, 2008 · 189 Comments

Michael Owen has not had a good start to this season, and hasn’t even played in pre-season.

michael-owen-33.jpg

Michael Owen - should make Man United game

But that doesn’t stop Michael, Newcastle’s captain, from being confident he can both make that game, and also help Newcastle get some kind of result next Sunday.

Michael told the Sunday Sun today:

“Physically I’m fine,”

“In fact I’ve almost had to be reined in, but always in the back of all our minds has been that you don’t want to be pushing further than your body tells you to.”

“I’ve had to go steadily but this last week I’ve been running more and more quickly and continuing to progress; Manchester United is what we’re aiming for.”

“They are the champions of England and Europe and in my view the best team in Europe.”

“But the first game of a new season could be just the time to play them, when they might not be firing on all cylinders.”

Good words from the captain, and while Newcastle played much better than we ever expected yesterday, we could have had a few goals in the first half, with a striker of Michael’s ability in the side.

Oba Martins looked good yesterday, but even Oba is still short of games, and we need our strikers ready to go for next Sunday, that’s for sure.

Comments welcome.

we all know that owen is probably the best striker at the club but why risk him if hes not match fit (risking a long term injury which hes prone to) on a match we will probably get stuffed

  • 2 BennAllen // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:37

the son of shearer.. because with him we might actually win!!

  • 3 Dan4toon // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:43

I WUDNT RISK HIM, EVEN IF HES 99.9% COZ WITH OR WITHOUT HIM WE WIL STIL GET BEAT N MARTINS WITH DUFF UPFRONT LOOK GOOD N THEN GET OWEN BACK FOR THE BOLTON GAME N THEN WITH MAYB DERDYIOK WE WIL B SORTED UPFRONT =)

  • 4 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:44

benn he was in the team when we got beat 6-0 so i cant see him making too much difference

  • 5 Marty // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:44

If he plays then it will just be 20 mins of a run out.
He def will not be starting.
Hope he stays injury free this season as we need his Goal scoring prowess

  • 6 toonfan1 // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:47

the son of shearer- he played up front on his own that day and he was up agaianst Ferdinand and Vidic. he also scored a goal which was good but ruled out for offside. he is needed for the game on sunday as he is our best striker.

  • 7 Chris F // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:49

nice to see that optimistic geordie spirit is alive and well.

if we can play like we have in the last couple of games, we’ll give man u a good game.

it certainly wont be on a par with the insipid drubbings we got off them last season, that’s for sure.

  • 8 roy morten79(norway) // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:51

wonder which striker we will get in? if here will be anyone then.. need a big cf payer

  • 9 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:51

there is no point in loosing him for 6months but i dont think it will be a 6-0 drubbing again, the only chance we really have if we get guitterez taking on neville. so far he has looked a class act but this will be the true test. guthrie looks an excellent buy also

  • 10 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:55

    If our defence is

    Enrique——Faye——Coloccini——Beye

i will be confident of not conceding too many

  • 11 Chris F // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:57

    neville is still injured.

tbh, when you look at who theyve got missing, we’ll never get a better chance of getting something out of the game.

no ronaldo, anderson or nani. carrick and rooney doubtful. neville still injured…

that’s got to give our lot some hope.

  • 12 reillers // Aug 10, 2008 at 13:58

Don’t play him if he’s not 100%. We’ve got the likes of Martins up front and Duff’s coming into it well also. There’s no mad rush to get him back. He’s not the player he was, he’s lost it a wee bit. We’ll do fine without him for a while if need be it.

  • 13 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:02

“We have a big job to get him ready for Newcastle,” said Fergie, “but with seven or eight days training, we may just make it now. He’s much better and the medical reports are good.

“Gary Neville and Nani are fit and they will travel,” he continued. “Nani will probably start on Sunday because he is suspended for the first two league games of the season.

  • 14 reillers // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:03

Spyro..keep telling yourself that. Maybe if we say it enough it’ll come true.

We wont concede too many goals against United.
We wont concede too many goals against United.
We wont concede too many goals against United.
We wont concede too many goals against United.

Did it work?? Time will tell.

  • 15 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:04

and surely taylor would be in the team before faye

  • 16 simon376 // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:08

Faye is in a lot of peoples line ups but will he play? I could be wrong here, but I’m sure he’s only started one preseason game and that was in midfield wasn’t it? If I’m right in what I’m thinking, it will be Taylor & Coloccini at centre half. Well thats what I think anyway, what about anybody else?

  • 17 simon376 // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:09

Beat me to it Son of Shearer!!

  • 18 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:10

i agree and the game at birmingham last year showed how poor faye is positionally mcfadden ran him all over

  • 19 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:13

thats right, name the ONE game when Faye was poor, apart from that he was miles ahead of any of the rest of our defenders, especially taylor who was poor last season and made dumb mistakes almost every game. I cant even be bothered to go through all the times Taylor was shown up last season. you talk about positioning, and at the same time state Taylor should start ahead of Faye!?! Taylor is awful positionally, you only have to look at our last friendly to see that, where was he when we conceded against valencia? exactly.

How some on here can rate Taylor ahead of Faye really baffles me

Anyway i think Faye is injured so Taylor may start

  • 20 simon376 // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:14

If it was down to me, I would have Taylor in the team and Butt in Sentral Midfield, Faye would be the cover for Butt as he looks alright just in front of the back 4. But lets hope with the new defence, we wont need to worry too much about them needing cover. Hope thats not too much wishful thinking.

  • 21 micknufc // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:21

me too, faye is way better clappy happy taylor.
taylor makes way to many misjudgements for my liking, and can also make very rash challenges

  • 22 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:21

the only thing letting taylor down is his lack of pace, he is still young and will make a few mistakes untill we get a strong cb to help him through which hopefully collocini will be.

  • 23 Bill F SPLASH THE CASH ASH // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:27

Just watched the highlights of the Derby v Doncaster game and Donny looked very good for their win (helps put our loss in perspective). Lewis Guy looked very good and sharp, might be one we might regret letting away.

  • 24 ObaFan2 // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:28

Owen could have had a run out yesterday, even if it was only 10-15 minutes.

  • 25 Hertz // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:34

I thought Martins was overweight yesterday.
He needs to work more to be slimed down.
I reckon Taylor’s strength is how he manages to block shots. Apart of that, nothing special about him and needs to be improved to keep his place.

  • 26 ObaFan2 // Aug 10, 2008 at 14:35

Martins was quick so if he’s over weight then god help defences when he slims down.

    He easily outpaced Valencias defenders.

  • 27 raamsoon // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:02

hey guy, what about young Arron Spear.
what’s going on? Do we get him or not?

    please confirm

  • 28 Gateshead Mag. // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:09

    martins
    duff guthrie butt milner gutierrez
    jose collocini taylor beye
    given

that’s what we should play on sunday.

  • 29 Chris F // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:12

and that probably is what we’ll play, Gateshead Mag.

i think Owen would make the bench, but i doubt he’d start.

  • 30 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:17

was just watching nottingham f v reading, i saw earnshaw and it immediately brought back horrible memories of our defeat to Derby last yr, does that still haunt anyone else or is it just me?

  • 31 greg // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:17

    Its on setanta

  • 34 Gateshead Mag. // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:22

spyro av forgot about last season now.

look forward to this one, i’m very optimistic. think we’ll surprise a few people. no silly statement buys and that, just players who wan’t to play for the club. bring on man united!

  • 35 greg // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:23

    streaaaaaaaam!

  • 36 Stephen // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:24

Dont anyone think newcastle havent changed??????

Like yesterday we played really well but guess what we were playing at HOME

When we play away from home we suc* like hell..

No matter who we play we always struggle, we always concede sloppy goals its really worrying to be honest

Its like against aston villa last season 1-0 up crusing then we concede a stupid goal and lose 4-1 played great at man u away from home last season was 0-0 at half time lose a goal and we lose 6-0 same thing happened against man city away 1-0 up lost 3-1 yet again against arsenal twice last season 0-0 half time lose 3-0 both in the league and fa.cup and lost 2-0 in the carling cup..

If we concede the first goal away from home in my opinion we already lost the game

If colincini is the new woodgate for us then i be really pleased because in my opinion on away days we are champioship at the best

always look pretty good at home but its pathetic the way we defend away from home..

If we get that sorted and play like portsmouth or everton nice and organised and not many mistakes then we can be defo top 8 this season.

if not then 12th at best

  • 37 Toonboy // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:24

    @ greg

If i knew how do set up a steam i would

  • 38 Leo // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:26

nice one, shame ma bloody setanta is not working because of the pikeys next door putting a bloody conifer tree in the way of the sky dish

we have to have that dish relocated otherwise iwill chop their tree down haha

  • 39 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:27

    gateshead

i too am optimistic, i think we are in safe hands with our current regime, just takes a little bit of patience

  • 40 greg // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:27

Stephen 0 i think that’s mostly because the team was super low on confidence.

They were brittle and collapsed at anything.

This year, esp with characters like Colocinni, Beye and probably Guthrie, we should be more resilient.

I can’t see us being beaten by more than 3 this season, put my nuts on that one

  • 41 Stephen // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:27

We lost to doncaster away…..we were shocking

    Mallorca away shocking

    Hertha berlin shocking

funny then when we play a top team like valencia at home we put on a good display

if we can play like that why cant we ever take it into away games….

just shows newcastle players under perform all the time and only play when they want to

  • 42 Stephen // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:28

Greg….we have being terrible away from home for years even the legend sir bobby struggled to get newcastle to play well from away from home

he lost to villa 4-2 on his last game its always the same

if portsmouth can win loads away and look good why cant we??

  • 43 Toonboy // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:31

Is anyone hoping to get Derby County in the cup this year.

  • 44 greg // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:31

I agree, but it’s a new style of play for most of the players in the team.

Forced to play long-ball for 80% of last season, now being asked to pass the ball and attack.

It’s hard to play effectively if you’re got no target at the top (any striker - owen, martins, dukes etc.) Must be hard to motivate yourself and create chance for muppets like Smith and Ameobi to fluff into the stands?

When they played with a proper striker, Martins, they come up with goods :)

  • 45 Stephen // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:32

Trust me if we concede the first goal next week we have lost the game…..We totally collapse.

It be good if we can get a 0-0 like reading last season..

And i know we have the likes of guthrie and spiderman who work there socks off but people said that last season to with the likes of barton and smith and they werent bottlers when we lost 4-1 at home to portsmouth like says it all really

  • 46 Stephen // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:33

Yep i think the new attacking football will help

We just need a good attacking midfielder

i hope we get arteta he be perfect :)

cant cope seeing butt and smith in the middle of the park :)

  • 47 Toonboy // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:33

    @ Stephen
If anyone goes 1-0 down to Man utd they lose

  • 48 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:34

    yes toonboy about derby

  • 49 Stephen // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:38

    Ha Derby are a disaster

BUT remember last season they picked up 4 points out of 6 against us

There only win of the season

just shows how bad we were last season if we cant even beat derby :(

  • 50 greg // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:41

    stream of Charity Shield

    pretty poor match

  • 51 DURhamTOON // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:47

Stephen you seem to be forgetting Spurs last season mate.

  • 52 DURhamTOON // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:49

we went behind and then managed to humiliate them at home.

  • 53 gorskino10 // Aug 10, 2008 at 15:58

Lets hope it not another season “i was really unlucky with injuries” and “i will be better next year” as this has been going on for too long, he needs to get looked as he can’t play a month without feeling a knock or tightness, lets hope he can start scoring and staying fit for us over the WHOLE season.

  • 54 AndyNUFC // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:01

Comment 25, Hertz, Martins needs a bit of weight on like that for strength in the tackle. He outpaced the defence a couple of times that I saw in the first half.

  • 55 Ericles // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:11

What is this about Nobby signing for Greek team? I thought he wanted to be near his family in London - hence the training at Watford. At that distance we could have re-signed him as a squad player surely. Newcastle is nearer to London than Greece, or it was.

  • 56 Nick Dryden // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:21

if truth be told nobby saw the writing on the wall when that caveman allardyce came.

  • 57 Collocini // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:24

  • 58 Collocini // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:25

Guys how old is Rooney It looks like he is older than Oba and Mikey Owen.

  • 59 micepie // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:36

It doesn’t sound overly optimistic but I’ll be happy if we don’t lose by more than 2 goals and just play well. If we play with spirit, togetherness and skill and still got shot down 2-0, say, that wouldn’t be so bad. If we get a drawer (or even better) I’d be ecstatic!

  • 60 roy morten79(norway) // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:39

i hoped tottenham would have bad season, but they are beating roma at the moment. the score is 5-0 right now. god i hate the hotten totts

  • 61 xfer // Aug 10, 2008 at 16:57

Hope KK watching the community shield. Manure’s midfield is very strong, even with a weakened side, very hardworking team, and fitness seems to be good.

  • 62 TooooooN // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:03

dont play him against man utd. we will lose tho and this might affect his confident level. so start him the next match after man utd

  • 63 WIGAZ // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:07

Well man u won Shield, was a bit of a scrapy game to be fair, i think we could give them a good go if they play like that next week! we still need to be on top of our game tho! well if we give away a pen to pompy this season there’s no need to be worried, i’ve never seen a worse group of pen takers in my life! ha ha!

  • 64 KEVIN BROCK & HIS SOCK // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:23

The crack is Owen will be on the bench.
    He’ll only come on if

We’re drawing with 20 mins left and KK thinks we can win it
    This seems unlikely to me.

  • 65 harrier // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:23

  • 66 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:33

Harrier, what players do you see coming in this week?

  • 67 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:34

alright boys, i have a mate who is in s’oton reserves called jamie hatch, just speaking to him then about niall ranger, this is what he had said to me.

” He is an absoloute tool, bags of ability, very quick. We released him as he was put in youth balstall”

    I said why was that.

” like i said mate, he is an absoloute tool, he was waving round a knife at someones throat, his family are also flat-out scum, like mcguires on shamless except coloured”

what you mean his family are scum, that has noting to do with this niall does it?

“Yes as he had previous for drug pushing”.

so has he defo signed for the toon?

” yeah, thats what the word around here is”.

  • 68 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:37

yeah GS18, word is he signed a 2 yr deal.

No doubt our staff knew what they were buying when they signed him, so they must feel they can tame him

What players can you see coming in GS18?

  • 69 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:40

tame him like they have done barton, should not been playing football any other job they would be out and not a leg to stand on. that is the only time ive felt let down by kk

  • 70 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:40

lol spyro, him and barton will be two peas in a pod, lol.

i cant bloody wait to have barton back, he is one of my fav players. i cant honestly believe what a player guthrie is looking, also jonas.

  • 71 AndyNUFC // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:42

Yeah GG7, nice one dropping your mate in it a bit lol. Love it if ‘knifey Nile’ came on here and read that.

  • 72 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:43

i agree GS, Barton needs to come back soon for our sakes. Guthrie and Gutierrez have proven they are first team material and they should both feature against United

    @ son of shearer

Dont really care what you say about Barton, he is our best CM and we need him.

  • 73 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:45

i just been talking to my brother who knows a couple of people in the arsenal set up and they reckon they could have michael johnson from man c by the end of the week. prehaps this will clear the way for us to sign inler

  • 74 mitch // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:45

Does anyone know what is happening with MO contract really need him to sign spurs are sniffing around so they reckon

  • 75 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:47

i agree barton is an excellent midfielder but he’s a liability it would be ok if he was only in trouble once or twice but its every 6month he is in bother with the police. not very professional anyway been at a mcdonalds after a night on the piss. harldy a true pro

  • 76 mozza // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:47

aye jonas is looking the part, great engine, hope we add coloccini, larson - inler and cisse next week, the size of the squad is a worry though, if as always players get injured, we could be left looking really weak

  • 77 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:47

Guys i dont think its a major thing to worry about, a lot of youths from London dabble in drugs & carry knives they dont ever intend on using. It is not right but it is normally just a faze youths down here go through at around…well, Nials age.

Wise will straighten him out ;)

  • 78 AndyNUFC // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:48

That bloke from the match could either be Nile Ranger or Bangoura, both seem to fit into our youthful signing policy.

  • 79 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:49

    it was almost certainly ranger

  • 80 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:49

Its Nial Andy, one of the papers(not the MOST reliable source i know) claim he has signed a 2 yr contract and loads of southampton forums were discussing his move to us earlier this week

He is good friends with Nathan Dyer and Bradley Wright Phillips. I have seen Bradley around a few times and he seems a nice guy. However he does hang around with a well known south london gang

  • 81 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:51

knifey niall lol. everyone hated him anyway and he knew it, im not sure it wouldnt matter, michael johnson would be the perfect player for us, id pay anything from 9 mill downwards for him. very tidy player

  • 82 geordie fan // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:52

i have also heard from good contacts johnson will be signing for arsenal on thursday for around 6million and they have been priced out of a move for inler as they want close to 13million

  • 83 the son of shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:53

i agree think johnson would be an excellent signing if we could get him but it does sound as though hes going to be a gooner

  • 86 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:56

  • 87 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 17:59

I personally feel Johnson isn’t worth 9million and i wouldnt pay a penny over 6.5 for him, would pay 9million for Inler though

  • 88 9 Shearer // Aug 10, 2008 at 18:01

About Barton, I want him back as soon as possible. He can take up Butt`s place.I really want Guthrie to play but there is no way he will get into that team before Butt. Its good KK saw that Geremi is shit.

I never want to see Cacapa on our team, about Faye and Taylor, I have failed to make up my mind but I would like both of them on our team with Butt on the bench with Faye In DM. If one sits its wasted talent.

    We have a quality squad.

  • 101 Collocini // Aug 10, 2008 at 18:34

    the son of shearer

i agree and the game at birmingham last year showed how poor faye is positionally mcfadden ran him all over

What about Talyor against Man city Petrov came from along distance and passed the slow CB.Just because he is a local lad you should not compare him to Faye(HE IS FAR BETTER THAN SLOW TALS)

  • 102 mozza // Aug 10, 2008 at 18:35

aye it’d be a big gamble, been plenty of one season wonders, reet pal you’ve painted to good a picture of to the fridge, theres an ice cold can with my name written all over it

What u lot think n hu wud u lot sign ??

  • 104 Spyro // Aug 10, 2008 at 18:40

IMO Guthrie for 2.5million is a much better investment than Johnson for 9million as i dont think Johnson is much better than Guthrie. In fact, based on Guthrie’s few matches for us i would say they are around the same level

  • 105 normski1930z // Aug 10, 2008 at 18:41

coloccini, turan, inler, larson, cisse all posssible and imo all would improve the squad, cisse might not be everyones cup of tea, but he has power and pace which terrifies defeces and a s**t hot scoring record, ahhh this cans ganin doon well, the flatpack furntures becoming a distant memory,

manure will be a good measure of where we’re at spesh if we’ve strengthened with 3 players by then and theyr’e fielding a weakened squad, saying that teves is a smashing player, son even weakened theyr’e still a proper handfull

  • 116 Black and White Blood // Aug 10, 2008 at 19:16

Yeah but mozza if we bring in 3 new players before then who play on Sunday, that wouldn’t have allowed them sufficient time to have gelled with the rest of the squad, which would maybe give a false reading if we get beat – erm which we’ll not with Curlyccini at the back …!

  • 121 Black and White Blood // Aug 10, 2008 at 19:26

The lads today were talking about Joe Cole being made available…..I wonder if he is our big signing, more so if KaKa goes to the Blues, who else would be in for him…? They ould have something like 8 or 9 midfielders!

  • 122 Black and White Blood // Aug 10, 2008 at 19:32

Micknufc – totally agree, can someone for the life of me explain what he’s done to receive a reception like that…? Yes I agree, the lads not netted a goal all season, however he’s always given a 110% effort and commitment unlike many I can mention last season. If he’s not good enough to score, then surly the manager shouldn’t select him, all he can is his best, he’s not going to turn around and say to Keegan…Oh…erm, I don’t think I’ll play today because I’m not quite good enough!

  • 123 mozza // Aug 10, 2008 at 19:32

a can understand that pal, whys he being booed, he’s always tried his best and hasn’t took the p**s with the club like dyer et al he’s just not good enough, shouldn’t get booed for that or being linked with everton, again not his fault, but we have some shallow fans at our club as well of course as some fantastic ones

daiv-i respect the fact you’re not happy but the sarcastic comments are starting to get slightly old.
you seem to really dislike ashley, have you read the interview in the new magazine? because lets be honest, that is the ONLY in depth discussion he has had with anyone regarding his vision for our club.

  • 140 Toon1978 // Aug 10, 2008 at 20:33

  • 142 daiv // Aug 10, 2008 at 20:40

    Ross
Where is this club going? Is KK happy? Is he being backed? Has he any say in the purchases? he is the man and he is totally undermined by MA and Wise. Who the f…..is Wise? I would drum him out the club. The owner seriously thinks KK can challenge the top 4 with the squad available. I f you agree with that then there is no point me and you discussing a void. Having said that, I was seriously disappointed in KK allegedly wanting to keep Smith. The whole Toon wants him away and the manager (ALLEGEDLY) wants to keep a player not good enough for Hartlepool.

  • 143 keegan is king // Aug 10, 2008 at 20:41

  • 146 Ross // Aug 10, 2008 at 20:49

daiv-in the interview ashley clearly explains the short term/long term plans for the club. he says you have to find a balance, bringing in the right names for the current squad, yet establish a 5 year plan that gets a healthy amount of talent circulating throughout our academy too.
he says quite clearly that KK comes to him with names that he’d like to sign, yet he’ll only come to ashley with names that he feels will be hungry to play for newcastle, and that yes, he will back KK if he claims he is right for the club and is available.
he also makes it perfectly clear that wise is in control of signing the younger lads, academy players for example. he travels and tries to discover younger talent. at no point does ashley mention him having anything to do with signing first team players.
Ashley will have said he thinks we can challenge the best in the league as a confidence booster. judging by the interview my opinions have changed, he seems to be backing kk, and if kk wants a player in, ashley will do his best to help.
he emphatically rubbishes take over talks by saying something quite blunt like “no, thats all compelte rubbish. yes i’m looking for partners, no, i will not sell”
and on the whole, the vibe the interview gives is that he wants the best..like us and kk for the club, and if the money is needed and will be spent smartly, he will give it to achieve our full potential.

  • 147 WIGAZ // Aug 10, 2008 at 20:49

    Is it Shearer/Cole & Viduka?

  • 150 daiv // Aug 10, 2008 at 20:52

    Keega is king
Between January and now we have bought 2 players for 3 or 4 mil. 10 years ago kk dominated the market and bought quality. Now he has bought virtually nobody. Why? Because he cannot spot talent? No, because he is not being allowed to buy anybody unless MA or Wise agrees it.!!!! He is not in control. Expect him to walk this year. The bookies have not got him favourite to go for no reason. As for MA, I do not believe a word he says. Is he in it for the money or has he always been a a passionate NUFC supporter who had never been to the ground before he bought the club? Open your eyes. The guy is a fraud.

  • 151 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 10, 2008 at 20:55

So was i right with shearer & Cole Spidy?

  • 155 daiv // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:00

Do not listen to what people say. Listen to what they do. Example. KK wanted experienced Premiership players. Who is he buying? Foreigners. We cannot believe anything or anybody, only what comes through the door at NUFC. Only NUFC remains above evrybody’s bollocks.

  • 156 Ross // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:00

    daiv-.
10 years ago the transfer market was alot different. the reason we’re not buying people here there and everywhere is because keegan is looking for young talent, who show an interest, a hunger to play for us. he’s not gonna sign half arsed footballers just to keep the doubters happy.
the bookies dont have keegan as favourite to be first sacked. keegan sits at 8/1, with alan curbishly, david moyes and gary megson all ahead of him, at 5/1, 5/1 and 6/1 respectively.
He is a businessman, he says in the interview he baught the club for a challenge. he says outside the top four, newcastle united is the gem of the premier league, the team he thought deserved to be huge again, the team he thinks with his vision, can be huge again. he isnt in it for a quick buck.

“We have a big job to get him ready for Newcastle,” said Fergie, “but with seven or eight days training, we may just make it now. He’s much better and the medical reports are good.

this alone should make us play owen if he can…the fact of the matter is Owen is our most lethal striker (he was out top scorer last yr- despite his problems- he is a big time player and scores on the big stages so he should start

  • 187 Nobby's Dad // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:53

daiv………KK isn’t always going to get what he wants. He said he wanted premiership experience……….. Who like? Crouch…£11 million /Bentley £15 million / Keane £20 million / Barry £18 million price tag. Anton Ferdinand £6 million…do me a favour!!

If anyone had said this time last year that we’d have 2 Argie internationals (arguably the best international team) in our squad for the 2008 / 09 season you’d have had them sectioned. I don’t know if you were at the friendly games but the 2 ‘virtually nobody’s’ Gutierez and Guthrie looked excellent, and have cost next to nothing. It doesn’t matter who scouted them if the quality of our futures buys is as good as these 2 then 99.9% of fans will have no complaints.

  • 188 harrier // Aug 10, 2008 at 21:55

hmm did fernando not say that he had seen corluka signing the papers lol?

  • 189 Obafan // Aug 10, 2008 at 22:30

    My 3 players would be:

1 Colloccini is a done deal; otherwise MA will be sen as a very strange man (after he wears his shirt)
    2. Derdiyok: very good young striker who works very hard
    3. Taiwo: very good LB and I think that is the weakest position in our team as Enrique just seems not to be learning out of his mistakes.

Oh and then before the end of the window a fantastic CAM would be fantastic!!! Let’s say Xabi, but I don’t believe a word of that article.

  • 190 51times // Aug 10, 2008 at 22:37

Obafan - It’s Xavi, not Xabi. Well done.
