Newcastle Not After Rangers’ McGregor – But Maybe Cuellar

The Sun is reporting today that Kevin Keegan is ready to pay out £5m for Allan McGregor, Rangers’ goalkeeper.

Allan McGregor – no way Newcastle after this player

Why on earth Newcastle would want a goalkeeper right now, and pay £5M of what looks to be very tight transfer funds at the club, is nothing more than – stupid.

We have two excellent experienced goalkeepers in Given and Harper, and two great 20 year-old youngsters in Krul and Forster, and not to forget up and coming 18 year-old Swede Ole Soderburg.

So why Newcastle would ever want to buy a goalkeeper right now is beyond us.

Well it’s The Sun, after all.

carlos-cuellar.jpg

Carlos Cuellar – Ranger’s center-back

We think there may be some communication going on between Newcastle and Glasgow Rangers, and the popular press are surmising it could be McGregor, while in fact it’s probably Carlos Cuellar, the Rangers’ Spanish center-back that Newcastle are interested in.

£7M for Carlos would be a good buy, and would help out our defense no end. We again looked susceptible in central defense for the Valencia goal on Saturday, which seemed to come out of nowhere.

It seems like that story at least has some sense and logic to it.

With 3 players supposedly coming in this week – it would be something if both Coloccini and Cuellar arrived this week.   😀

utter rubbish in the keeper link. if Colo signs why does KK want cuellar? r we gonna play 4 CBs on the field? Taylor, Faye, Colo, Cacapa,Bassong, Edgar, not to say Kadar and even Tozer and Beye can play in the centre …

if youre going to make up a story atleast think of one that might have potential for truth for example a position where we dont have excellent coveer for like lb or cm i just when you think the sun cant get more dishonest there they go and prove you wrong

    adam-papcac? he’s bollocks,lol.
i’d take colo and faye or colo and cuellar tbh, i do like faye though, i think he’s alot better than he gets credit for.
we wont be going for mcgregor, given and harper are both better than him, and then we’ve got krul coming through.

More fog on the Thames from the Sun. A made up story to fill a space in a paper not known for truth or news. They know NUFC are going to sign 3 this week. They do not know who they are so they try and upset the keepers we have. A load of testicles and urinary output.

Can somebody tell me how Cuellar will be a good buy?

Boumsong seemed like a decent buy at the time and he had played at international level unlike Cuellar.
Yes he was the best defender in scotland last year, but outside of celtic and rangers the rest of the teams are league one standard (at best). He played in Spain but only for mid-table clubs, so it isnt as if he proved himself at barca or real madrid. I really can’t understand the fascination with this guy from a lot of people on here, I fear yet another flop if we sign this guy. For 7-8 million we could sign a proven prem defender, but i’m not even sure we need another cb after coloccini, creative midfielder has to be the priority.

Cuellar would be an excellent buy, finally give us a firm defensive group, understand both he and Coloccini can also fill the FB role which gives us more flexibility.
That is if Collocini ever signs, seems like personal terms may be a sticking point ?
It appears MA will pay the transfer fee , but is tough on wages.
Still need a striker big time, should have been in the market from day one.
With Smith apparently on his way to Everton,
(about wages ?) and two perenial sick notes, that leaves Martens and the crowd favorite Ameobi.
Makes you wonder is this management team
(whoever they are) an ” on the job training”
group or professionals managing a multi million pound club.

Faye and Coloccini would be good enough for the PL. Dont think another CB is of prority, would love to see a creative midfielder, or a target man, Viduka is probably out for 3/4 of the season.

can only see this transfer for cuellar happening for 2 reasons only

1, colo deal for some reason does not go thru

2, if faye is sold, it keeps croppin up he is not happy here. not sure how much truth is in that

no way in hell are we signing gregor!!!!!!!

I for one will be glad to get through the next few weeks without any more damaging stories about our club.
I also think Ashley and his board need to get Keegan into the loop quickly and brainstorm the short, medium and long term objectives for our club.
Also who if anyone is to be our press liaison officer because at the moment the gutter press are trying to destroy us.
Mike, get a grip man and sort it out, if you don’t we will never compete with the top teams.
Until you do this the press and even your own staff will have niggling doubts about your intentions to either build us into a top side or sell the club for a profit.
I suspect you have loved being in the loop at Newcastle but are you prepared to shed blood and really fight for the clubs future as we Geordie’s would.
Having seen you on the terraces and also heard the stories about your generosity in the local pubs I for one will hope your sharpening a sword in preparation to defend this club.

On another note. From what I have heard Man city are just about to go properly bust. in all seriousness.

Thaksin has an arrest warrent out on him in thailand and is looking for political asylum in the UK or possibly burma. his assets are still all frozen so there is no money at the club to pay the players (only £2-3m of the £19m for jo has been paid, this was originally supposed to be in instalments anyway but no money for the next instalments). corluka deal is sealed, and daniel ireland was supposedly sent to sunderland for talks behind hughes back. they dont own the ground or training grounsd and are in debt with no potential buyers coming in to buy off thaksin.

This is true as far as i know, not a wind up, heard it from my boss who has seen posts on a couple of boards from people who are actually working at city and are fans and who are gutted about the whole thing.

This would be fantastic signing. Cuellar is a player with great talent and if he Coloccini are first choice center backs then with rest competing for places our defence will be looking heathly theres nothing more healthy than competition. We jus need to get the creative midfielder and a striker in and we are looking good business.

Cocollini and another top class CB would be great. Bassong could cover LB and Edgar RB. Faye and Taylor could cover CB positions. If Taylor is so great why havent any of the big boys inquired about him, he and Cacapa were very shaky against Valencia and its a worry that he seems to be beyond criticism at such a young age. If we could get a few million for him I would take it.

We don’t need another keeper and I won’t believe a word that KK wants another one. Shay looks completely recovered and Harper prooved that he is a great goalie who can compete for the spot together with Shay.

Also the future looks bright in the goal with Krull and Forster as 2 talented young keepers.

We could live without another mid fielder but desperately need a striker, with both Viduka and MO, allready broke down, where does that leave us for a 50+ game season.
    Spidey/ milner
    Duff/ N`zogbia
    Butt/ guthrie
    Faye/ Geremi
    Thats 4 AM`s
    and 4 DM`s
Sure theres room for improvement, next season though, after all Rome was`nt built in a day.
