If Coloccini does sign soon for Newcastle United, it looks like Kevin Keegan wants him in the side for Old Trafford next Sunday.
Fabricio Coloccini - Keegan will play him if fit enough
Kevin was asked today if Coloccini would figure in the side against Man United next Sunday:
“Yes – if his fitness levels are right. We will watch how quickly he integrates this week.”
“His team has been in South America playing the games we played 10 days ago, but he looks very fit.”
“We will wait and see.â€
Deportivo are in Venezuela for pre-season, but Fabricio didn’t go along, because of his ever pending move to Newcastle, and he’s been training with the club’s youth players before he headed to Tyneside on Saturday.
If Coloccini does not make it in time for Sunday, it appears like Keegan will opt for a central defensive pairing of Steven Taylor and Claudio Cacapa.
While that would probably be the best we’ve got right now, they are a little questionable and Cacapa looks a little too slow for the Premier league.
But they have started all six of Newcastle’s friendlies in the absence of Abdoulaye Faye, who has yet to return to full training, having reported back to the squad with an injury.
And we’ve seen Cacapa give some great displays when it’s mattered and he no doubt will be ready for the game at Old Trafford.
But this may be our Achilles heel against an expected very good Red Devils side, but the boys will all be ready for the game, we know that for sure.

Just a point about Cacapa, it’s nothing to do with his pace. He’s fairly pacey infact. It’s the fact that he seems to have no awareness or vision about what the ball’s going to do. So often I’ve seen him try to head the ball back to Given/Harps but the ball is about 2 foot above his head and he just heads thin air then the forward runs in. I thought this was a basic skill as a CB.

Matt, also agree on Ca-crapa. But I would suggest that, as he won five league titles in France which is quite a tactical league, that he once had the brains to read the game. I think its not above his pace over the ground but his speed of thought - to read a game where the ball and players move 100mph takes some doing at the end of your career if you’re not used to it!

I’d be gutted if we brought in Arshavin at £24mil - not worth that, completely unproven other than the Euros, and even then didn’t he go missing in the final..? We could bring in two top quality players for that sum of money!

I’m not sure of the wisdom of sticking him straight into the team unless he has already been training with them. The EPL can be a real test to be slung into the deep end especially against ManU. I would like to see him on the bench though and perhaps getting 20/30 minutes in.

Smith was expected to join Everton however failed to agree terms, this has since been resolved and he is expected to sign for them. Derdiyok is Smiths replacement and was expected to sign last Friday until the above happened re Smith he returned to Switzerland but was not included in their squad for Saturdays game, the MAJOR signing was at the training ground on Sunday however even though my contact knows who the player is he will not tell me as the club are keeping it under wraps. The latest today is that Colocinni, Derdiyok and the major signing are expected to be announced on Tuesday afternoon and to be presented to the fans at the open day on Wednesday. No doubt the reasoning will be shirt sales.

Whether or not Big Willie is spouting off the truth or not is neither here nor there.
At the very least it’s fun to speculate and the suspense is always a good bit of fun. Life is all about letdowns, football isn’t any different.
With that said, I hope sure hope we do announce a couple signings in the next few days. Seems only logical since Coloccini is already ours, but hasn’t been formally announced.
We’re obviously waiting for someone else. Who that someone is - well that’s half the fun now, isn’t it?

If you refer to BW latest post he happily confirms that the signings will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday) and then presented to the media at the open day on Wednesday morning!
Hmmm – well can someone with an ounce of common sense, kindly explain the rational behind this decision if this rumour was indeed true!
If they have already signed, why wait one day to announce it, only to wait a further day before presenting them. If this was indeed true, the signings would be announce today and then presented at the open day on Wednesday – Does this not make more sense?
You don’t sign players then delay the announcement, only to further delay presenting them – Just my opinion..!

Well…isn’t it a case of wiki officials soon bump out anything that’s not true or confirmed? So if that bit about Arshavin stays on there maybe there is a slight chance it’s kosher.
I think it’s a little obvious to sign stars from the Euros and I’m pleased that we have made creative signings so far. That said, I see Arshavin has only turned 27 two months ago so good for 5 or 6 years with his Beardsley-style play (if he could adapt to the Prem for some team). Would be surprised if it’s us and it would be just a one-off diversion from MA’s transfer policy!

I hope these rumours are true but the ship is run very tightly at the club these days. I have a friend whos is big pals with Adam Sadler and he has said he has no clue as to who the toon are after or signing.
Big Willies source must be a good one as the the trio involved in our transfer negotiations are doing there business very well as far as i am concerened, just look at the jonas deal.

Well, either one of Cole and Arshavin I’d be delighted, prefer Cole though because I think Arshavin is way to ovrepriced. Great player but for 12Mil not 20Mil.

If it is Xavi, well, it’d be the biggest signing in our history behind Big Al. Even on a par.
Xavi for me is my favourite midfieder in the game behind Gerrard and Kaka.
He is brilliant!!!!!! He is not overly flairful but dictates the game with such simplicity.
Very much like a mature Fabrigas (who is brilliant too but not as experienced).
He is still young and scores goals, but has an incredible eye for a pass and his positional sense is outstanding.
Tom Toon- you gotta agree with me, even though we dont agree often. (Assuming this isntnt Bull)…
Xavi would be a dream signing in our midfield.
I say we get him and Inler and we’d have an absolutely class midfield.
