Just as Fabricio Coloccini looks set to join the club, Newcastle United’s Senegalese center-back Abdoulaye Faye, has become the subject of a £2M bid.
Abdoulaye Faye - is he unsettled on Tyneside?
The club bidding for Faye is newly promoted Stoke City, and if Newcastle are indeed willing to sell. there will be a lot of competition for Faye’s signature.
There are rumors that Abdoulaye is unhappy at Newcastle, but Kevin Keegan has said he doesn’t want to lose any of his current players, and Faye played really well in defense, during Newcastle’s last 10 games of last season.
The Daily Mail speculates that the player is unhappy at the club despite 22 appearances last season, and we hope that’s what it is – just pure speculation.
Faye has been nursing an injury since he returned to Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, and has yet to play in pre-season, and will not be fit enough for the game on Sunday at Old Trafford.
We’d be very disappointed to see Faye move, and right now we are trying to bring players in rather than let them go – as the squad is still way too small.
We need more players if we are really to launch a bid on the upper levels of the league this coming season.
And there’s still time to bring those players in before the end of the month.

I suppose he might feel undermined with Coloccini coming, as he will know that Taylor is the local hero and now Bassong has arrived too; it’s hardly a vote of confidence in him. Edgar too of course. But he did do well at the end of the season and he is one of our more resolute defenders. They aren’t too thick on the ground are they?

i do not understand why people keep stressing the fact we have a small squad?
has anyone checked the squad listings compared to the big 4? fair enough they out do us on class, but we have about the same amount of players as them, check sky sports or something guys, though still need a LB, CAM and CF.
Warnock on the way by the looks of it too, so thats one down, 2 to go, then see how things are shaping up at xmas.

If we were to bring in say, 3 new faces (Warnock, Bullard, Derdiyok for example) we have a really well balanced squad very keegan like signings.

Now swear down on my parents life this is true, remember when Allaradyce got sacked and so many names were being thrown about? Well my insider told my mate at first opportunity it was going to be Keegan and my mate put £50 on the odds at the time. Low and behold it turns out it’s true and guess how much he won? £4000. Yep, no flies on that my friends and I put my life on it.

I actually found out Smith had been pulled out of the game on here.
And yes you can go back and find a post from me saying that because I really don’t remember saying that and immensely apologise if I did because it’s not what I was told.
What I was told initially was that Smith was going to Everton… Then I heard that Derdiyok was coming in depending on Smith going out.

To be honest, I never really doubted BW and Andy, just occurred to me that the club was planning on a triple signing. I mean, MA would never wear a shirt with a player’s name unless he was in the bag, so there’s little more reason to drag the transfer on. BW said Inler was the major signing, and there’s absolutely no reason why the St James’ hierarchy wouldn’t think he would sign. So just because it doesn’t happen doesn’t mean anyone’s been lying to us, just that the club got it all a bit wrong or got let down last minute.

Tbh, can’t say I know a whole lot about Moutinho, but the general consensus on here seems to be that he’d do a decent job for us. I think MA does want to pull off one major coup, I’m just not sure the club can be sold to players so easily right now.
That said, a team of Guthries, Coloccinis, Bassongs and Gutierezs will do nicely for me. All have looked excellent so far (with the exception of Coco, but I’m sure he will be). Bassong, in particular, I think is underrated. The lad doesn’t just have potential, he already looks like one of our best defenders…

One thing that really worries me is that Martins is going to suffer with a lack of games this season and become restless. I believe that he is world class aswell as owen and cant see any reason why owen and martins cant be our forward line. Many people say that 2 little guys cant play together but they said 2 big guys Sir Les and Sir Alan couldnt play together. Why is it that everyone misses my point of Owen and Martins are admittiably both fast both small but different type of players at the same time!!!!

If we look at our central defenders now (hope coloccini will be announced soon!), we would not need faye anymore.
BUT, one thing is, that Faye is very strong in the air and he also is a left footer! We only have one left footer in Bassong there!
Difficult decission, I rate faye very high! But he is also not anymore the youngest lad…if KK thinks, that Bassong can do the job? Hm, maybe we can let faye go (especially if he really is unsettled). Glad that it is not me who must decide…

yorkie dave - martins and owen could be our forward line if the midfield was a bit better. The problem is we havent had the quality to keep the ball on the deck before so a target man has been required. As the midfield gets stronger so do the chances of an owen/martins front line being played.

on faye - i like him as a player but dont know why people are so quick to lavish him with praise and slate taylor. obviously i was the only one watching him get turned like he wasnt there by mcfadden against brum. he get pulled out of position a lot too having played most of his career as a midfielder.
i would prefer to let taylor develop alongside colo. taylor has not developed how he should have but to be fair to him he has been paired with some right clowns in our defence. he has been covering for senior defenders for the last 3 years who should have been covering for him. maybe with colo we will see him flourish.
