Keegan – We’ll Create Lots Of Openings This Season

Newcastle have scored 4 goals in their last two friendly games, but we’ve also created many more chances.

Kevin Keegan – pleased with last two performances

When you consider most of our strikers were missing during pre-season, the performances are not too bad, and certainly manager Kevin Keegan seems to have been pleased with Newcastle’s performances in the last two home games against PSV and Valencia.

Kevin talked to nufcTV yesterday:

“We went to Mallorca and played two games and it was a little bit disappointing not to score, although they were makeshift sides we put out,” “But we have come back to St.James’ and suddenly created lots of chances.”

“We drew 2-2 with PSV but created four or five chances that we should’ve taken and it was the same against Valencia.” “You are never going to take them all but when you do you will have a great day.”

“I would take that every match this season, scoring two goals and taking our chances that the defence can keep the opposition down to nil or one.”  “We’ve still got a few strikers to come back in and I’m confident that going forward we will create lots of openings this season.”

That’s certainly what we want to see this season, as the team must look to win more games than they lose.

We are still missing Mark Viduka and Andy Carroll, and Michael Owen will have a behind the scenes friendly on Thursday, to get him ready for Old Trafford.

But that’s not the best way to start a season for Michael unfortunately.

However, we will still need some kind of result on Sunday, so we can make a decent start to the season.

Comments welcome.

I believe we will finish 6th or 7th this season.

Don’t think Spurs are good enough for the top six because they’ve lost Keane, Bebertov (Old Trafford deal immient), and Defoe. That’s 60 goals taken away from the team.

For me, Villa are the favourities for a top 6 finish.

But for us to stay in the mix this needs to be a big season for Michael Owen. His goal scoring will make the difference between European places and just missing out. No pressure Michael!

wolfhound- Rest assured mate, that will never happen again. Keegan will not be content to just sit back and try and nick a goal against lesser opposition.

    Toon92:

Tiago is class. He is a pretty complete midfielder, who did quite well at Lyon, already knows the Prem etc. Yes, he was at Chelsea and was sold for 7m to Lyon I believe.

A one-year loan with an option to buy is a great way of doing business, because it’s low-risk but potentially a really splendid transfer.

    Wrap it up!

Coloccini, Tiago, Warnock, Derdiyok and I would be a happy camper!

Sounds a good idea, loan Tiago for a year – if he’s poop, send him back without the 10m transfer.

@ Tapir, Thanks for remindind me too. Happy Birthday Shearer – get the boots back on.

Don’t worry, Tiago is class! Still, nothing’s confirmed by the club, so we’ll just have to wait, won’t we.

By the way, wish me luck guys, ’cause I, a norwegian teenager, will be heading for Nevada, USA as an exchange student tonight. Almost as exciting as silly-season.

    THE RIGHT KIND OF PLAYER

I can understand people getting frustrated that we haven’t spent £20 million here, and £15 million there, on players. But it’s not about how much you spend, it’s finding the players with the right attitude. The ones that will respond and dig their heels in and fight for the cause on a rainy night away from home when we are 1-0 down. Sometimes you have to spend £15 million to get that player, sometimes you only have to spend a few million (Guthrie and Gutierrez).

As Everton, Portsmouth, and a few years ago Reading proved, its about finding the right balance in your first 11 that refuse to lay down and get beaten.

Spurs and West Ham spent loads last season and got nowhere near the top 6.

With Keegan here giving them extra confidence, we have an advantage over the others already. Plus we don’t have the distraction of European football and can rest between league games (unlike Villa and Spurs)

I look at our first 11 and we have the “right kind of player” in every position. The likes of Coloccini, Taylor, Beye, Butt, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Milner, Owen, Martins don’t know the meaning of giving up.

We will fight them at Old Trafford, we will fight them at White Hart Lane, and we will finish in the top six

    Believe!

I see this deal as win win. Loan for a year with a view to a permenant move. If he isn’t good enough we don’t sign him. If he is we do and if he is just needed to fill in for one season then it’s also good because we don’t have to recoup a load of money in transfer fees.

    We’ll get 9th this season.

    @James

Your having a laugh if you think we will get anywhere near the top 6. We have no creative midfielder. I don’t care about getting another left back in or a big striker we need a Creative Midfielder!!!! Modric would have been the best signing in years!

We will be bottom after our first 3 games 🙁

Probably more important to have a tight defence and take any chances we get, I wouldn’t be to fussed if we got a lot of 1-0 wins.
