Steven Taylor Improving All The Time

Since Kevin Keegan arrived back at Newcastle Steven Taylor has looked an improved player.

Steven Taylor – improving all the time

And Kevin thinks the youngster will only get better as he brings in competition for the places at the back, starting with Fabricio Coloccini.

Steven has played every minute of every game in pre-season, so he is ready for the big test at Old Trafford on Sunday, against the European and Premier League Champions.

With Abdoulaye Faye unfortunately missing with a slight injury, Taylor has played at the back with Claudio Cacapa, the Brazilian, and they will probably both play at Old Trafford, unless Keegan is confident that Coloccini is fit and ready to go, for that game.

Kevin talked to the official site yesterday about the England Under-21 captain:

“As the competition keeps getting tougher he needs to step it up and he has shown that he can do that,”   “I thought against PSV especially he was outstanding in everything he did and rightly picked up the man-of-the-match award.”

“He’s been positive, he’s won headers, he’s defended well and he has used the ball extremely well.” “He’s played every minute for us in pre-season and, while ideally we didn’t want to do that with any players, Steven and the others who have featured a lot have never complained and have been fantastic.”

This will be an important season for Taylor, because it can be the season he comes of age at Newcastle, but he will need to be consistent, and form a good partnership with either Coloccini or Faye.

That’s three very good center-backs for just two positions available – which has to be good for the club.

Looking forward to the new season – out of curiosity, what formation would everyone like to see being played? i like the idea of a 4-4-2, i just felt that towards the end of last season teams just began to find ways of beating our 4-3-3.

I think with Keegan signing his own players he’ll revert back to 4-4-2.

4-4-2 almost certainly. We don’t really have the available striking options available for the 4-3-1-2 we played last term but we now have an ubundance of wide men.

    Chappa,

I was at Toulouse Blagnac Airport last night, and went into town after picking up my mate, the general feeling was that Celtic where showing more interest then Newcastle, and that a fee was being arranged by Celtic,

How reliable this is I don’t know, but after asking around a few time, everyone had said that, hope it helps.

even when he KK played 4-3-3 it was usually with MO dropping into midfield , where he did very well, better than our regular midfield

I like Taylor and think he will become one of our best defenders – he is still young and learning his trade but I am sure will Colo working along side him he can not fail to improve. Looking forward to the new season 😀 Ho’way the lads !!!!!

Taylor has looked stronger pre-season, but I’ll judge his performances properly when we play premier league football.

I thought it took a lot of courage for KK to play 3 up front last season, and it worked a treat. This year though with Jonas coming in and Duff looking good and Viduka being out for a little while i think it’ll be a traditional 4-4-2.

I’d rather see a 50% ready Colloccini than Cacapa down back for the Man Utd game. Cacapa is awful. Way too slow.

Whatever KK says Faye is better than Taylor. With due respect for KK, I nolonger have that much trust in KK coz he thinks Smith will and has made him stick with us.

@ToonSg, Its 10m euros thats like 7m pounds. Thats. The problem with loans is him playing well for us and Juventus wanting him back.

He hasnt well ever since leaving Benfica.

taylor gets far too much stick from some fans. alright he’s maybe not as good as he thinks he is but he’s got bags of potential. his progress has been stifled from having to play alongside muppets since he was 18. if he had had sol campbell or the like alongside him for the last 3 years Im sure hed be much better for it. as for faye hes decent but no better than taylor and no real room for improvement. last season he got made to look like a right mug by mcfadden at birmingham.

Do not comment when you don’t fully understand!
Taylor is our best ENGLISH PREMIER’ Centre half, and has been since Woodgate left.
Cacapa, is a continental player, and simply doesn’t have the pace or strenth for the english game.. I’m not questioning his ability or history, but the only way he’d prosper is haveing a micah richards alonside him , all pace and action to compensate for his lack of it.
Faye imo, again is a decent player but will only flurish in a alladice side.. where he can spend all afternoon, looking at the sky and heading high balls back to the halfway line… KK will never play football that suits him, he is very limited with the ball at his feet.
Taylor and Colo WILL be first chioce pairing.
Tayls will be player of the season.
He’s the type of player we all long for.. All heart and toon passion.. and highly talented. He’s only 22, and will improve.
    He is ENGLAND u21 captain.
    True FOOTBALL PEOPLEsee his potential.
    And he is ours!!!
So instread of nay saying, get behind our rock and give him some support! your supposed to be mags?

Lets hope all you ‘Tayls’ fans are right and I hope I’m wrong about him. I was a fan of his but he hasnt developed the way I thought he would and he just doesnt have the vision and is positionally inept. Would be a far better RB. I’m sure he will be in the starting lineup possibly before Colo but Colo/Faye would be my CB pairing with Taylor as cover alongside Bassong
