There is news coming through that Juventus have arranged a deal with Newcastle United for former Chelsea midfielder Tiago, and he will move to St. James’ Park on a one year loan deal.
27 year old Tiago Cardoso Mendes – to Newcastle for one year loan
Tiago only joined Juventus from Lyon last year, but has not done well at the club, and has hardly lived up to his £10M price tag.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Portuguese midfielder is now on the verge of signing for Newcastle United, after the Premiership club have finally come to an agreement with Juventus.
Tiago will move to St James Park on a one-year loan deal, with the Tyneside club then having the option to make the move permanent next summer for a fee of around £8M.
Juventus play Artmedia in the Champions League third qualifying round tonight, and Tiago is unlikely to feature in order to avoid him being cup-tied from Europe.
With Newcastle not in any European competition this year, this is probably irrelevant, but the Italian club still want to protect themselves in case the transfer does not go through.
Tiago has previously played for Lyon, Chelsea and Benfica.

I suppose he’s a bit of a unsung ‘water carrier’, but i wasn’t inspired when kk brought in batty or speed for that matter.. so what do i know!
One things for sure, ths club are in a much healthier position,
the players we’ve brought in look like they are going to fit in well, Colo will add much needed class alongside Taylor,
still hoping for Arda, or Fernandez, I’m sure there will be a big signing,.. all the talk coming out of the park suggest this.. prob be towards the end of augst though

Comment #48i still think Jermaine Beckford would be a good bit of business as he will be cheap, low wages, and probably wouldnt mind being back up for our first team strikers.

Comment #56dunno why we didnt pressure brum into selling larson we need by saturday coloccini signed, who i believe has, top notch creative midfielder, and a striker as well as a left back, if this hasn’t happened then the system in place needs looking at and we’ll be scrambling around like desperate mugs in the january window

Comment #57Not the signing i was hoping for in all honesty, its sh1te if i’m being brutally honest. Manure look to be signing Berbatov which will add more pressure for us on Sunday and to add to the worries Colocinni transfer rumbles on to the point of being a bloody joke. I may be wrong he may have signed i just wish were more informed. ooh and Martins may not be playing against Manure. Wonder who’s going to play up front for us hmm SMITH haha SUNDAY LOOKS LIKE A WINNER ALREADY.

Comment #61Tiago is a good option because of the 1st yr loan, if we were to buy him straight away i would be against it as he has been poor as of late and was never fantastic in my opinion. However, if he finds form he is a valuable player and we need a player in deep CM who can pass
This is just speculation though so i am not holding my breath. Wouldn’t mind if we missed out on him anyway, just as long as we are after a deep laying CM who can pass

Comment #65Was reading the Sun’s Supergoals this morning and it said Newcast;e in: Tiago loan but there was nothing in the actual paper about it. I presumed it was a error, but it looks like it wasn’t.
Its good news imo…a player with technical ability is needed in the middle and i think he is an improvement of what we have got.

Comment #66I’d guess he was being sarcastic about Messi lol.
And Warnock has come out and denied that he handed in a transfer request. Ffs, which bloody paper made up that rumour? I mean, link him with a club, fine, but to come out and say that he’s put in a transfer request, that is just pushing it.

Comment #67I agree, Tiago is definatly not what we need right now! we need solid players in like Guthrie and Colocinni and Guiterraz, not underperforming flops like we have had in the past.

Great if it does go through as we have an ageing Butt (sounds good,) an ineffective Smith, a flattering to deceive Milner and a who knows what Barton.

Comment #69We need a top class creative player too, and I wonder if we will sign this Boavista left back since the Warnock deal doesn’t look to be happening. I get the feeling they have to announce the Coloccini signing very soon, and there must be a reason why they have delayed it. I think there will be some news today, but it looks as though Smith will be staying as he was in training today

Comment #71@WIGAZ agree that it does start to boil your’e p***s, i’m amazed when people think we are going to do much better than last season, a couple of injuries and wer’e up s**t creek, if smith starts against manure, then this whole set up has failed miserably to do its job imo

Comment #74Decent player at best, at least from what i’ve known of him during his time at Chelsea. Squad player.
Hopefully im wrong, cos KK has been very careful in this summer, and the players he has brought in suits his style of play, keeping the ball well, and good distribution of ball.

Comment #77Yes, he is creative but box-to-box and can defend which is what we need.
All you saying he flopped at Chelsea know nothing at all, he played every game for them in his frist season and their fans still rate him, just ask some.

Comment #80Oh no, its all going so badly…..
This guy is not creative in the slightest. It appears that we dont have Guti’s reg papers yet and nobody knows the truth about Coliccini and his delayed announcement. We no longer have Martins fit, Owen not match fit, Viduka injured and we are playing Man U on Sunday!!
Its looking very likely we will not have Viduka, Martins, Coloccini, Guiterez and others for the match. Leaving us with Smith and Ameobi up front with Owen coming on later or going off at half time. All this and we still dont have any creativity in the middle.
I am a huge KK fan but i dont agree with his comments regarding us creating lots of chances. We may have done ok in the last couple of games for goals however I think its quite a different ball game away from home and beating match fit and determined premiership defences.
I hate being negative but cant help it, Martins being out has cut me deep lol
