We thought it was leaving things a little late on the Michael Owen injury situation and Kevin Keegan has admitted today that Sunday will indeed come too early for the Newcastle captain.
Michael Owen – will miss game against Man United
That’s disappointing because it means that both Owen and Viduka, two very important players for the club, who missed a lot of games last season through injury, will both be missing after a summer of rest.
That’s not good news.
And while Michael has returned to training, Keegan wisely has absolutely no intention of rushing him back:
Kevin told nufc.co.uk today:
“Michael is back in training but I think to be honest Manchester United will come a bit early.â€
“It’s no good trying to kid people. He just needs a week in with the group doing all the things he needs to do and we’re not going to get that into him now so I think it’s very, very doubtful.â€
“It would be crazy on our part to try and short cut it just because it’s Michael Owen. We treat him the same as any other player.”
We may be struggling to put a decent team together for Sunday, but with the good form of Duff, Milner and N’Zogbia, Kevin can still put together an attacking side, and it’s still possible we can get the result we badly need.
