Milner Going Nowhere – Possible New Arrivals

Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has today confirmed that Abdoulaye Faye and Shola Ameobi are set to leave the club – but Kevin has at least insisted that James Milner is going nowhere.

James Milner – going nowhere

Milner has recently been linked with Astom Villa, with whom he spent the 2005-06 season on loan, and the news recently is that Martin O’Neill has bid 9M for the player.

But only this week Keegan has said what a gem of a player James is, after playing so well in the pre-season games.

The 22-year-old winger has become one of our most consistent players since arriving back from Villa Park two seasons ago and in that time has appeared 85 times (74 starts) and scored 7 goals – not too bad at all.

Kevin told the club’s official website today:

“He is the last player that Newcastle United want to sell, and I’m talking about the owner and myself,”

“James Milner won’t be leaving here, I’m sure of that.”

But Faye, who we were disappointed to learn wants to leave, is on the verge of joining Stoke, however, after only one season at St James’ Park.

Ipswich Town seem to be keen again on Ameobi and the 26-year-old striker may finally be leaving his home town club.

But as far as the squad goes, we’re now the same as we were last week in defense, because we have Coloccini in, but Faye is moving out.

We will still need another central defender to come in, and we wonder how much truth are in the rumors that Keegan wants to bring West Ham’s Anton Ferdinand to Tyneside.

Keegan did say the two departures could allow new incoming deals to be made – as he continued:

“That’s the end of players going out, and if those deals do happen, there will be some more players coming in.”

The last 16 days of the transfer market could be really interesting for us, and we may even end up with a decent squad after all.

We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.
