Oba Martins has today given Kevin Keegan a huge boost before the clash at Old Trafford on Sunday when he yesterday flew back onto Tyneside, declaring himself available for selection for our first game of the season.
Oba Martins – says he’s fit for Sunday
Martins managed 60 minutes of action against Valencia last Saturday, and looked full of running, and is very keen to play at Old Trafford, and we think that all being well, Kevin will start the Nigerian International on Sunday.
Martins has of course had a dreadful summer after his mother collapsed and died as she attempted to escape from her home following a nearby petrol tanker fire.
Earlier in the week we had reported that it looked like his knee injury had ruled him out of Sunday’s game, but it looks like Martins thinks he’s fit and if the Newcastle medical staff agree, he’ll play.
This is the third piece of good news for Newcastle fans today after earlier the club announced they had finally signed Fabricio Coloccini, and that the registration of Jonas Gutierrez had come through.
Keegan may yet go ahead with a behind-closed-doors friendly to give Owen and Martins a chance to prove their fitness, but time is running out for that to be accomplished before Sunday.
