Kevin – Fantastic Performance From Every Single Player

Kevin Keegan rightly couldn’t hide his delight at his team battling the European Champions to a 1-1 draw this afternoon at Old Trafford.

Jonas Gutierrez – a terrific debut from the Argentine

It must have been a very long time before a season has started with a rousing performance like this from Newcastle, who went ahead after just 22 minutes with a terrific Oba Martins header from a Danny Guthrie corner-kick.

By that time it had been all Manchester but the lead didn’t last long as the Red Devils equalized after 24 minutes with a Darren Fletcher tap-in from a Giggs center.

But from that time on Newcastle were the match of Manchester, and with any luck could have even taken all 3 points on the day.

In a nutshell, the lads were fantastic, and this performance should sweep away the doom and gloom on Tyneside, and Kevin was right yesterday when he seemed so upbeat about this season.

After the game the maestro himself said:

“We came here with the purpose of getting a result and I’m delighted to come away with a point,” “I said to the team before the game, ‘We have pace and power in our side and I think we’ve got more than Man United’.”

“It’s not often you get a result here but we did because every one of our players put in a fantastic performance.” “In the end we might have even won it. We created lots of chances and played as a team both going forward and defending.”

“I thought it was a good game and both teams were very committed.” “We didn’t make one change today and our fitness levels, because of the hard work we’ve done over the summer, really showed towards the end.”

“We go into Bolton now full of confidence and hopefully we’ll follow up today’s performance.”

While it’s just one game and we don’t want to overreact or get carried – this was a wonderful performance today from Newcastle – and each and every player can be proud of their play.

And our 3 new players – Jonas, Coloccini and Guthrie all had good games, with Jonas Gutierrez being our man of the match with his brilliant attacking play down the left wing.

Our two Argentine players looked just great and Coloccini fitted in so well with Steven Taylor at the back – who had a very strong game – it was more than Kevin could ever have hoped for.

At the end it seemed like Coloccini had been playing at Newcastle for a few seasons he looked so comfortable – and performed so very well – a terrific display from the boy, who seems a real character – but more important – looks to be one terrific center-back.

A note to Mike Ashley – three more top class players please before the end of August – you’ve got to give it to Kevin – he certainly knows how to pick them!
