Newcastle new boy will start today at Manchester United and make his debut as Kevin Keegan immediately shows confidence in his new signing from Deportivo.
It’s just 48 hours since Fabricio completed his move to Tyneside and now faces the Premier league and European Champions at Old Trafford in his debut.
Argentine team-mate and fellow new boy Jonas Gutierrez also makes his Newcastle debut as does former Liverpool midfielder Danny Guthrie, as expected.
Coloccini will partner Steven Taylor at the heart of the defense with Habib Beye and Charles N’Zogbia completing the back four.
Guthrie joins skipper Nicky Butt in the center of midfield while Gutierrez and James Milner will operate on the flanks, and again as expected Duff will partner Martins up front, with Smith starting on the bench.
This is not a bad looking Newcastle side, given the injuries the team has sustained in pre-season.
In attack, Oba Martins is paired with Damien Duff, and 17 year-old Ryan Donaldson is again on the subs bench.
Shay Given starts in goal and Steve Harper is on the bench.
For Manchester United Wayne Rooney starts after illness but there is no Carlos Tevez or Cristiano Ronaldo in the side – thank goodness for small mercies.
After watching Chelsea take Portsmouth apart 4-0 earlier, and it could easily have been 8-0, there may be a little trepidation with Newcastle fans, but we think the lads are made of sterner stuff than Portsmouth showed today.
A draw today would be a great result for us.
