Taylor-Coloccini Partnership Looking Good

August 18th, 2008 · 224 Comments

You couldn’t help but be impressed with the way Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini played together yesterday in the heart of the Newcastle defense.

Steven Taylor - played great with Coloccini even with injury

And Kevin Keegan was quick to point out how good they looked today as he said:

“That could be our central defensive partnership for the next five years,”

“They are both signed for that length of time, so now it is up to them.”

“Yesterday was the first time they have played together and there are signs today that it could be quite a good partnership which may get even better.”

The only time Manchester United scored was when Taylor was off to patch up his foot after colliding with Darren Fletcher.

But that injury has forced Taylor to withdraw from the England Under-21 squad for their friendly against Slovenia tomorrow night.

Keegan talked about Taylor’s commitment and his injury:

“He got a bad knock when we scored that would have seen a lot of players come off, but not Steven.”

“If he does what we ask, he will make another step up and go from the Under-21s.”

Just how serious Taylor’s injury is has yet to be determined by the club, but we’d be surprised if he misses the home game against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
