Belgium Media Reporting Pocognoli On Way To Newcastle

The Belgium Media and The Daily Star are reporting today that Newcastle United are interested in Belgium left-back Sebastian Pocognoli, who currently plays for AZ Alkmaar in Belgium.

Sebastioan Pocognoli – 21 year old Belgium star left back

Some reports are claiming that Newcastle have even agreed a fee for the player, with the fee being quoted as €7.8M ( about 6.2M) but that seems an awfully high fee for a 21 year-old.

The reports further suggest that Pocognoli and his agents are now in talks with the Tyneside club.

Pocognoli is a left back who is very fast and loves to attack. He is said to be a good crosser of a ball and has a good powerful shot.

Sebastian Pocognoli is currently in Beijing playing for Belgium at the Olympic Games but at least the Belgium Press is saying this is almost a done deal. Belgium were beaten 4-1 by Nigeria in the semi-finals and are on their way home now.

The full-back is highly rated in his country, and it looked like he was on his way to French Club Lyon, but the Belgium press he’s on his way to Newcastle.

Pocognoli played in last year’s European Under-21 tournament in Holland , in which Steven Taylor starred for England, and it could be he was first scouted then.

He is just under 6′ tall and has already represented the full Belgium National side twice, and last season played 28 times for AZ Alkmaar scoring twice.

No way to say how true these reports are – but it looks like he would be a decent buy, but the price seems high.

good signing in my opinion. I can see kevin is looking for more of an attacking left back. this is why he has put zogie in. but pocognoli would give this to him while being able to defend. get the lad splash the cash!
