Martins – Newcastle Fans Cheer Me Up And Make Me Happy

One of Newcastle fans’ favorite players Obafemi Martins has thanked the Toon Army for their support following the death of his mother last month.

Oba Martins – Newcastle fans make him happy

The 23 year-old Nigerian striker returned home after his mother, Alhaja Martins, tragically passed away in Lagos on July 23rd, which was a terrible shock to her children.

As a result of this family tragedy, Oba missed United’s pre-season friendly at Doncaster Rovers three days later.

But Oba wasn’t forgotten at that game as the Newcastle fans sang his name as a show of support for their black-and-white hero.

And then when he was replaced in the second half against Valencia a week last Saturday he was given a tremendous ovation form the fans, who have really taken the boy to their hearts.

At Old Trafford on Sunday the Newcastle faithful again sang their “Oba, Obafem, Obafemi Martins” salute as his great headed goal helped the lads to a great 1-1 draw at the home of the champions.

And with a little luck Oba could have had the winner, when he had another good headed opportunity, much like his goal, but he was caught just a little by surprise this time, and headed over from 7 yards out.

Afterwards, Martins had this message for the Newcastle fans:

“That’s why I love staying in Newcastle because the fans really help me.”

“They helped me with my late mum and they really cheer me up and I’m happy.”

He’s such a popular figure on Tynesdie, and Oba got off to a great start on Sunday, with a goal right out of the blue that stunned the Red Devils – love it!
