The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle’s Recruitment team of Tony Jimenez, Dennis Wise and Jeff Vetere were on the continent today.

Dennis Wise – both he,  Jimenez and Vetere on continent

There are just 12 days to go until the end of the transfer market which is a week come Sunday night at 12:00 midnight UK time.

Tony Jimenez confirmed today that he was on the continent but he refused (rightly so) to say where he was in case it alerted other clubs of Newcastle’s transfer targets.

But this morning we reported on Newcastle’s interest in the Belgium 21 year old left-back Sebastian Pocognoli, and certainly the Belgium press seem to think he’s on his way to Newcastle. Maybe Jimenez is in Belgium today.

We think it’s very important for Newcastle to acquire a minimum of three new players in the next 12 days and four if the quality is available.

Then we would not only be a skilful squad, but we’d have more numbers to deal with the inevitable injuries all teams have to manage during the season.

A third Argentine, Javier Saviola, is in Newcastle’s sights, and apparently the deal has now been worked on for over a week. Saviola is a wonderful footballer and a Kevin Keegan type player.

What we mean by that is Kevin would be almost the perfect manager for Javier to play under, and we think Kevin could get the very best out of the player.

The Evening Chronicle is reporting that real Madrid would not stand in Saviola’s way, but there is still much to do to sort out who pays what, for Saviola’s huge wages.

Newcastle are also said to be interested Argentine striker Oscar Trejo, midfielder Borja Valero and the £5M defender Jose de Araujo Nunez – who all play for Real Mallorca – Jonas’ (Gutierrez) former club.

Things seemed positioned that Newcastle could well bring in the three top players we need – and surely Sunday’s performance has to inspire owner Mike Ashley that something special is possible from Newcastle this season.

Howay The Lads!
