Gokhan Inler Still Available – Everton Now Interested

11:45 pm, Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 16 Comments

Gokhan Inler, the Udinese Calcio midfielder has been the subject of much interest from Newcastle United this summer.

Gokhan Inler – still available
In fact both Newcastle and Arsenal have been linked with the Swiss midfielder, and it even looked a couple of weeks ago that he would be moving to London to join Arsenal.

But it turns out that Inler is still available and in fact David Moyes of Everton is attempting to make the Swiss International his first signing.

Everton had hoped to capture Tiago but that loan deal fell through, when it became apparent that Tiago did not want to return to England.

He played for Chelsea for one year under Jose Mourinho, but he couldn’t settle in England.

Inler’s agent Dino Lambertini had claimed he was planning to meet Arsenal representatives to discuss a £10M move to North London, but that now seems not accurate.

Everton are looking for a replacement for Lee Carsley, who joined Birmingham this summer.

All we are certain of with this news is that Inler is still available, and that has to be good news for Newcastle, if indeed the club is interested in him.

We would be very happy to see the player move to Tyneside, as we believe he could strengthen our squad.

We’ll have to wait to see what happens, but there’s only 8 days left in the summer transfer window.

Comments welcome.

Cant wait to see the signings come in the next few days, really is anyones guess as to who it will be. If they are anything like the first three then i think we may have a good season. I’d be happy with top 8 for starters.

Any names on who people want to see at SJP, realistic??

I agree Ed he would be a welcome addition to our squad, even more so now as it looks like Duff and Oba could be sidelined for a while.

GraemeR – I agree mate. Hopefully the injuries today will spur us on to complete such deals before the window closes. Any more injuries and we will be running a very fine line with regards to numbers.

Come on Wise do your job, get us the quality!!!

First job is to tie up Owen. That’s the biggest WOW signing we need.

And as for James Milner’s speculated transfer,
what part of, ‘ F…off, Martin O’Neill’ does the feisty Villa manager not understand?

we dont need more DM – Butt has a yr or two left, Geremi too (the only position in the team where he can use what’s left in him anyway). Guthrie seems a decent player in the making, and Barton when in his right mind one of the most complete CM in EPL. not to mention covers in Milner / Colo / Beye / Edgar. all we need is a creative AM or whoever can play across the midfield to provide flair and deliver the key to unlock defence in a boring game. i think KK and the Board know that and that’s why we r reportedly after Modric, Arda, Aimar etc. still a week to go to get that guy.

Any more injuries and we’ll be stealing players from our academy, never mind the reserve squad.

  • 13 Darryl // Aug 24, 2008 at 10:34 AM

I think Alonso would be worth a cheeky bid.

Welcome back on line Ed. I thought you had gone forever, computers can be so frustrating at times.
As for Mr Ashley where is the WoW signing he promised us. I thought the injury curse had struck again when Jonas was felled early on and then Oba had to go off. So we still need some quality players in the squad to back up what is looking like a very good core of players.

Ya Inler is a holding mid…….we need a creative mid that will slot in behind our strikers. Does anyone know where the hell Turan went?
