Magpies Closer To Pocognoli Deal – Interested In Insua

11:02 pm, Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 12 Comments

Pocognoli is definitely interesting Newcastle United.

Sebastien Pocognoli - we are getting closer it would appear

There are various reports that came out of Belgium over the last couple of days, that suggest a transfer to Newcastle could be unfolding, but we can never be sure.

But the 21 year-old expressed his desire to play in England or Spain earlier this week, when he talked about his future:

“The decision about my future lies with AZ, but a chance to play in England or Spain would be sensational for me.”

However, as we revealed a couple of days ago, Newcastle United are not the only team interested in the youngster, and we will have to compete with French club Lyon, who were said to be leading the chase a few days back, but that was before Newcastle made a move for the boy.

Real Betis are also said to be interested in the youngster, and of course Tottenham Hotspur seem interested in every player we go for this summer.

Just exactly why that’s the case we have no idea, unless Juande Ramos trusts the player picking ability of Kevin Keegan.

AZ Alkmaar are already said to be lining up a replacement for Sebastien, with Korean Lee Young-Pyo already interesting Alkmaar should Pocognoli leave.

And we think that 19 year-old Liverpool target Emiliano Insua is still interesting Kevin Keegan.

Insua faces some very stiff competition for a place in the Liverpool side this season, and a season out on loan could be lined up for the former Boca Juniors left back.

But unless we get a fee lined up for him, that says we can buy him for that amount, at the end of the loan deal, it wouldn’t be in Newcastle’s best interests to take the player on loan.

Of course the youngster only signed a new three year deal in July, so the odds of Rafael Benítez letting the Argentine move are probably remote at best.

Comments welcome.

As good as it is having a win and its great to see a win against a club that go out to spoil football, today has proved we need another striker, Duff playing there is no good at all. Midfielder and left back would help no end too. Keegan has said more or less the same, lets just hope something happens not just by 1st Sep, but in time to go to Arsenal. Lets keep this run going

I’ll be happy if the next free are as good as the first free!!!

It is so good to have the Blog back.

Good for us to get the win today, but at a cost; Duff and Oba are sidelined now and for how long?

We need a left back, a midfielder and and an attacker pdq.

Great to see all the fellow bloggers back contributing again too.

    Howay the Lads.

GG7- To be fair, he was class at Lyon and if he were to come here one would hope he would be able to recapture his true form.

On his day he’s a canny player.

Duff didn’t get any change out of Bolton’s defence today, but to be fair, not many attackers do. Jonas probably tired today, but didn’t have the tools to unlock them, either. Maybe he’s better away from home where he can gallop into space on the counter. A little disappointed with Guthrie against his old side – didn’t get any shots away of open them with a pass. Coloccini was best newcomer. Class.

Not so sure about this one, I’ve read in a few places that this kid isn’t really anything special in the Dutch league so how’s that going to transfer to the much tougher Premiership? I think I’d prefer we push through a deal for a proven player in our league, we’ve already got a prospect at left-back in Enrique.
