Derek Llambias Reported Leaving Newcastle Board

There is news in The People today that Derek Llambias, who essentially took over from Chairman Chris Mort two months ago is leaving the Board Of Newcastle United.

Newcastle United Managing Director Derek Llambias – leaving the board?

Derek took on the new title of Managing Director, but it seemed he was essentially carrying out the role of Chairman, with Mike Ashley becoming more involved in the running of the Tyneside club.

The report says that Llambias is taking up a directorship at Les Ambassadeurs.  This seems strange, because we were told when Derek took the job, that he was to move to Newcastle, so we thought it was long term.

But it could also mean that Mike Ashley has decided to take up the official position as Chairman of Newcastle United, which we think would be a good thing for all concerned.

And that could be real news, even though it’s a surprise, but then the People just can’t reisist going down the hole again and saying this is the biggest hint yet that Ashley could be ready to sell the club.

The famous mystery source said:

“Llambias was always thought to be committed for as long as his friend was in charge.”“The fact he appears to be returning to the casino business will lead to inevitable speculation that Ashley is on his way too.”

Our advice to the media on Mike Ashley selling Newcastle United – please give it a rest – for everybody’s benefit.  😀

Surely this is a People (who don’t know anything and make everything up) red herring?

Ashley should do one thing today then, ring up sir bobby and tell him he’s honorary chairman

    Linktoon, that would be good.

If MA is taking over officially, it will be good news. He needs to be more involved.

Listen, im sick of the sale speculation, how many times has he said he’s not selling??
How much money has he invested this year in players?
Going public with his plans and thoughts about things?
Said he wants a partner (a personal bag of money)?
Enough of the selling talk, its not happening, not for a number of years…
I know you agree Ed, write that in your new column would you 😉

Thank god he is leaving, worst “chairman” ever. Did he even ever make a public statement on behalf of Newcastle.

Great, just more speculative news for pundits to read and make unsubstantiated claims that our club is in turmoil.

I really wish all pundits and journalists, particularly Mark Lawrenson and the Soccer Saturday panel, would read the Mike Ashley interview in the official magazine. It would put to bed all these frustrating rumours that Newcastle is on the brink of imploding.

The media has to have its monthly Ashley bailing out story. Surprised they didnt come up with a buyer. I guess Bin Laden is a tough one to top.
As long as Ashley is willing to give public statements from time to time, he should assume the chairmans role.

Restructuring was never going to be an overnight success. As long as things are happening for the the growth and stability of the club – that’s fine by me.

He’s been reported as joining the board of Les Ambassadeurs – this does not mean he’s left NUFC. Directors oftern have many directorships – some unpaid – since having a well regarded director on your board is a significant step in raising funds for the company – since it indicates a well run ship. – Well thats the theory anyways. Les Ambassadeurs is a London Casino (£1000 membership fee) – in case anyone is interested. This means that someone like Derrick Lambas with a background in Horse racing would lend credibility not only to investors but also to the governement dept responsable for regulating the gambling industry. Btw the latest odds of the “Daily mail” or “the People” writting a story about NUFC without lying have drifted for 900/1 to 1100/1 this week 😉

I worked for derek in casino’s he was a twat, always chasing women. so if he thinks like Ashley “geordie ones are dogs” then he won’t be at the toon for long. It’s his wife (maybe ex) Wendy that is gonna be GM at Les A. His pride will be really hurt at being called a funny lookin bloke, he always though he was a real ladies man.
