The People is reporting today that Newcastle Manager Kevin Keegan will go in front of an FA Disciplinary Committee and plead Joey Barton’s case, on the player’s behalf.
Kevin Keegan – committed to Joey Barton
The fans seem to be split on whether Newcastle should sack Barton, and in our most recent poll, with over 1800 votes cast so far, 53% want Newcastle to keep Joey, 40% want him sacked and 7% just aren’t sure.
But Kevin is nothing if not truthful, and he will be doing what he thinks is right and there’s no doubt that he wants to help Joey Barton turn the corner.
Whether Joey actually deserves the help he is being given, is a completely different matter.
Keegan believes Barton is a changed man after his two months in jail for assault and affray, but Barton may also face a potential 15-game ban from the FA, for his attack on former Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo.
Kevin will now back the player at the meeting in Soho Square, and he told The People:
“If you believe they have turned a corner, you believe they have turned a corner. If you believe it, what is wrong with saying it?”
We don’t really see anything wrong in what Kevin is doing, because he really believes he is doing the right thing.
And we all know Kevin has a heart of gold, and will always believe in people, probably too much at times, but that’s just one aspect of his personality that makes him such a top football coach.
It’s no wonder why the players on the field are so committed to him and the Newcastle cause – now you know why – he is just as committed to them – and they all know it.
Joey is a lucky man, that’s all we will say.

Comment #2If anyone should be charged for criminal activity in football, then it should be the embarrassingly incompetent English F.A…

Comment #4I wish we could stop talking about this and Barton would get his ban and then everyone will forget about it for a while.
Let’s get this straight – Barton deserves to be banned and punished. He’s taken his other punishments, pleading guilty in court etc, and done his time. That book should be closed for until he does something else…which hopefully he wont! (Maybe I’m dreaming there….)
And with his FA charge he has again, rightly, pled guilty. He should get a long ban and accept it without coplaint. If Keegan wants to support his player’s moral transformation, well then that’s up to him.
Either way what Barton did is unforgivable and he deserves to be punished. Let’s just get it done and get on with the football….PLEASE!

Comment #5I fail to see why the FA should be allowed to punish Barton for this. He he been punished by the legal system and served his time. Cantona’s inccident happened on the PITCH! Mutu was taking DRUGS that could alter his playing ability….The FA and many other people are just trying to push Barton further and further into a bad place. It’s time to let him move on….if he his banned for the Dabo thing then I think we should seek legal compensation from City (although maybe Thaksin has enough of that 😉 as it happened at their club on their ground as their player….why are we being punished for it?
