Ashley, Keegan, Wise Meeting Good For Everybody

August 24th, 2008 · 66 Comments

It’s being fully reported today that Kevin Keegan will meet Newcastle United Owner Mike Ashley this week, and it’s looks like it’s a Wednesday meeting.

Kevin Keegan - meeting very good for everybody involved

The news is that Kevin, Mike and Dennis Wise will sit down on Wednesday to discuss a variety of topics, but one of the most important is the transfer situation, which I’m sure is on the agenda.

Also, the various contracts that need closing such as Michale Owen’s and Steve Harper;s will also come up for discussion.

Let u say right from the start this is a good thing that these three are sitting down and with possibly Derek Llambias on his way, these are the three premier people who will be guiding the club forward in the future.

Kevin likes to know what’s going on, (nothing wrong there) and it seems like he’s more involved with things now on what both Mike and Dennis are doing, and that can only be good from everybody’s viewpoint.

Prime among them will be Wise’s efforts to provide the manager with the three more players he wants to sign during the final days of the transfer window, as well as developments on Michael Owen’s contract.

Keegan’s hand will have been strengthened by two solid displays from his new team, and excellent performances from new boys, Guthrie, Coloccini and Gutierrez.

We had around 5,000 empty seats at St James’ Park, and that was a surprise, but hey it’s nothing that wins and a few new good players will not fix, so let’s not over-react to this.

Keegan talked about the missing fans:

“I don’t know the answer to that.”

“All I know is my job is to put out a team that can win games and hopefully entertain.”

We don’t know if we’ll find out much about the meeting on Wednesday, either before or after – but we’re just very happy the meeting is taking place.

Because meetings promote good communication, and that is always good in any organization - we know that for a fact.

Comments welcome.

Wednesday!!! why are they meeting wednesday which would leave us with a whopping 4 days to sign players. They should have had the meeting Today. Waiting will just put pressure on closing in on signings.

  • 2 dick // Aug 24, 2008 at 14:23

I think toon bosses will be very worried about crowd numbers, although there was 5000 empty seats, there was also 1000’s seats given away to school kids making it worse, no one knows yet how many people did not renew their season tickets

  • 3 Dan13 // Aug 24, 2008 at 14:26

    Oh well
I was there cheering them on

  • 4 valle1 // Aug 24, 2008 at 14:28

Who cares where all the fickle fans where… There was still nearly 48.000 hardcores, and thats allot of hardcore fans for any clubs standard.

  • 5 ToonDaft // Aug 24, 2008 at 14:30

Can you really see us bringing in 3 top class signings in 8 days? how long id it take for Colo - lol - i certainly hope we do

    sort MO’s contract out.

Name top targets, plan to sign a left back, top centre mid, striker and maybe a centre half before end of window, then all systems go!

  • 12 Big Willie // Aug 24, 2008 at 15:01

Disappointed that Shaun Wright Phillips is signing for Everton, should have gone for him and sold Milner to Villa.

  • 13 beyethegreat // Aug 24, 2008 at 15:08

i hope we bring in a cm who can create if we do that and bring in a target man who can score goals i will be more than happy

  • 22 Chris_toon // Aug 24, 2008 at 15:44

    hello lol

  • 23 sirjasontoon // Aug 24, 2008 at 15:53

I think there will be even less fans turning up as the season wears on with this squad..yes at the moment we can compete but once injuries and suspensions start to kick in we need some depth and players to have to fight for places not some cobbled together patchwork first 11.

I think if this so called “wow signing” does not happen then the fanbase on matchday will continue to dwindle.

Great start by Kev and the boys now get some more cash spent Mr Ashley and make team that everyone is excited to go and watch as my feeling is the fans aint paying to watch shit for another season.

  • 24 sirjasontoon // Aug 24, 2008 at 15:58

NEWCASTLE were interested in armand traore, from sky sports website:

Portsmouth new-boy Armand Traore has revealed six other clubs were in the race for his signature.

The French full-back joined Pompey on a season-long loan from Arsenal last week, and looks set to be handed an immediate debut by Harry Redknapp in Monday’s Fratton Park clash with reigning Premier League champions Manchester United.

The 18-year-old recently penned a new four-year contract with the Gunners, but accepts that the opportunity to play regular football away from Emirates Stadium is preferential to kicking his heels in the North London club’s reserves.

The rare outings he has been granted by Arsene Wenger over the last few years have proven his considerable potential, and it comes as no surprise to hear a number of top flight clubs were willing to take him on this season.

Traore said: “I had Sunderland, Manchester City, Newcastle, Stoke, Hull and West Ham all interested in me. It’s great to know that interest was there.

  • 37 daiv // Aug 24, 2008 at 19:01

    47K atttendance.
Best thing to happen to the Toon. Wake up call for Mr Ashley

  • 38 daiv // Aug 24, 2008 at 19:07

It is clear that Milner cannot cross a ball above grass height or take a corner. Score a goal?9 mil seems good business to me. Nzog is vastly overrated. he cannot defend and when he attacked never got past the full back. Butt and Guthrie are tidy but cannot beat their opposite number and so run onto the defence. They play it wide to the wingers and the defence is just waiting to double up on them. Hence we do not create too much.
But the best news is the attendance. I have awayys predicted that MA would spend large when the season tickers fell away. This is the week when NUFC will spend large and MA will be forced to put his hand in his pocket. Looking forward to going to the Emirates with Malouda and Saviola in the team. Heres hoping.

Wise’s brief is to bring in young players. Don’t think he’s involved in first team squad signings

  • 41 jay k // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:08

    areet lad

  • 42 valle1 // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:23

daiv… i think Guthrie do fairly well bringing the ball forward… He dont beat players the Ronaldinho way, but with a twist and a turn he often leaves his marker stranded and then carries the ball a good 10 yards before someone else from the oposition has to leave his marker to put him under pressure… Nope, our problem yesterday where sloppy passing, mainly from Duff, Martins and Milner. Zog made a few sloppy ones too, but he also made some that deserved more than they got… Sadly, Geremi is our best crosser, but at least we have a great passer in central midfield with Guthrie now.

Is anyone else suprised we didnt try to sign kompany if we really want a defender. He is superb and only cost city between 6 and 7 million. same price for senderos is absolute cack. Hope we buy moutinho, he would be awesome.

  • 49 Toon Graeme // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:55

I heard this earlier today on one of the sports channels. My understanding from this was it was about Michael Owen and his future and didnt know a thing about dennis etc being there.

I bet this will be portrayed as another crisis meeting in the southern biased press.

Come on lads - x3 signings if not more.

  • 50 Toon Graeme // Aug 24, 2008 at 21:09

Hey we got a mention before the Man City match by Richard Keys. He mentioned how we have one of the highest attendences for first home game - then he had to bloody ruin it by saying it was the lowest since for the first match since the stadium got extended.

I must be kiling people that we are 5th in the league. I know its onlt after two matches, but it feels good.

Chelsea match - they were poor in comparison to last week. Deko goal, as last week last class.
Anyone else see John Terry hold back at least 3 wigan players!! Only one week and back to the usual tricks. Only thing missing was diver drogba.

Looking forward to Pompey and manure. Hope pompey go hell for leather + got a bet on with my wifes uncle who lives in and worships pompey.

Then its tuesday - Owen and Smith up front?

Hope forrest do over the mackems. HATE that team with passion — even more than Cheslea!

    COME ON TOON.

  • 51 Waddle's mullet // Aug 24, 2008 at 21:33

    dick!!

1000 tickets given to school kids???
They have been on holiday for the past 5 weeks.
did they get the tickets before they broke up?

  • 52 Toon Graeme // Aug 24, 2008 at 21:35

Just read the News Of The World article about the toon - yet another attempt to unsettle.

Same crap story from months ago dug up again.

Just scanned around other press and one went on about how KK has vowed to win back the stands and fill SJP. For god sake what was wrong with £47K like?

I think there are too many people on the negative about the toon and unfortunately there are quite a few on here too.

Its only been two games into the season and we are 5th. Go figure - we could be down the bottom. We have to take each week as it comes and hope we reach 3 points per game. I know this wont happen and thought Saturdays match was poor but we have to keep the faith.

    8 days, 2hours and 27 mins to go…..

Its gonna be a good week for us I think.

I go on holiday on Saturday and wish I was watching the Arsenal game on the tv. I get back after the Hull match too.

Least I have 2 england matches to watch!! Boring but will always follow the national wide.

  • 57 Hilly // Aug 24, 2008 at 22:34

Big Willie - SWP can’t cross either, so I’d say him vs Milner, even trade. Everton can have him.

Give Ed a break. He’s been working his butt off to get the site back up and there’s bound to be a few glitches along the way. Oh, I forgot, you’re perfect valle1 and all the other cry babies.

  • 58 Neil Snowdon // Aug 24, 2008 at 23:42

    Dear Ed,

I think the Malouda story is just that. We will have looked at contingencies if a large enough bid came in from Villa. Malouda, overpriced and under-performing imo, meets the Mail criteria with the added bonus of Wise’ Chelsea connection.

This week should be full of drama. I hope we rest our two Argies on Tuesday, give Owen a longer work-out and play Bassong, Enrique and Harper.

We need to play counter attacking football at the Emirates and will require a fresh Jonas to help achieve this.

Remain patient! Have faith! We have 3 points more from these first two fixtures than from last years’ tussles.

    Regards,

    Neil

  • 59 Spyro // Aug 24, 2008 at 23:58

    Neil Snowden

i agree with you about Jonas, we NEED him for arsenal as we will rely on our counter attack. Its a shame Martins got injured as i feel he is vital to our counter attack. However, we will have our new signings by then and hopefully our new striker and midfielder will have a lot of pace…hopefully :D

  • 60 Tony Green // Aug 25, 2008 at 0:36

Extortionate pricing, insufferable money-for-nowt “stewards”, occasional free draft pee served by smelly retarded bar staff who don’t give a rat’s anal vent, hot dogs at a massive mark up with stale bread and less than a layer of boiled onion etc, Shearer’s Bar shaven apes as door staff - bullies in any other civilised walk of life, punters arriving late and leaving early, more soft empty seating for director’s box fans, 48000. That’s 5000 less pairs of eyes the club can take out this week. The club has finally tirned the corner

  • 61 Paul // Aug 25, 2008 at 5:02

    Neil S

We beat Bolton 3-1 away 1st game last season then drew 0-0 at home with Villa, so we have the same points as last season. We actually had some decent results before Christmas last season, interspersed with absolutely dire ones (like Derby). The only common factor was the boring, long-ball dross Allardyce served up every time.

  • 62 valle // Aug 25, 2008 at 8:47

Hilly… Get your trousers back on mate, save the a** licking till you get home to the dog.

  • 63 valle // Aug 25, 2008 at 8:50

9m for Milner is ok by me if we have someone lined up to replace him… I am suspicious that O’Neil will turn him in to the new Barry, by playing him in the centre tho.

  • 64 chuck // Aug 25, 2008 at 12:56

There`s more than one reason for the attendance drop.
State of the economy, combined with rise in seat prices.
Uncertainty of clubs future as to ownership, management structure, willingness to provide the needed funds etc.
Combined with an awfull PR failure, which has obviously not been well received by either the corporate box (prawn sandwich) crowd or the regular fans.
There is still uncertainty and questions that need to be answered before the fans come around.
Yeah MA has attempted to be more forthright in regard to whats going on, unfortunately it has sounded more like hype in order to sell tickets
    than an exercise in openness.
It`s really too bad because we are just a couple or more players from being a decent side with a positive future.
There is still time to get it right, with a bit of luck.

  • 65 Piers // Aug 25, 2008 at 15:17
