The Mirror is reporting that Newcastle United, thrilled by the capture of Coloccini and Gutierrez, are now after two 20 year-olds from Argentina.
Angel Di Maria – 20 year old Newcastle pursuing
Argentina won the Olympic Football Gold yesterday and Tony Jimenez has been given the task of going after them.
The two Newcastle are now interested in are Angel di Maria of Benfica, and Diego Buonanotte of River Plate, who are currently both 20 year-olds, and of course will be good captures for the future for the club, and would also help to fill out our first team squad in terms of numbers.
As we know Mike Ashley is determined to entice young stars to the club, from all over the world, and there’s no doubt that Argentineans can play this game very well indeed.
It turns out that Di Maria scored the goal that ensured that Argentina retained their Olympic crown in a 1-0 victory over Nigeria in Beijing yesterday, in the final of the Olympic Tournament.
Di Maria scored in a tight game and was set up by a certain Lionel Messi, of Barcelona, and he was able to break clear and lobbed over Nigerian goalkeeper Ambruse Vanzekin, for the only goal of the game.
Diego Bounanotte of River Plate
The match was played in sweltering heat of 107 degrees Fahrenheit, and there were two breaks for water, so the players didn’t get too dehydrated.
FIFA top chief medical officer Jiri Dvorak said:
“It was necessary to give the players a break. We are worried about heat stroke.”
While Argentine players have not always succeeded in England, certainly Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano have set a trend, and Coloccini and Gutierrez currently look great buys for Newcastle.
The sign of a really world class player, is somebody who can settle in and get the job done quickly, and both Argentine players have done that at Newcastle, with special mention to Fabricio, who oozed class yesterday.
Everything just so easy for him, the way he stroked the ball about, but he seems to have great team spirit too as he looked ecstatic after Michael Owen had scored the only goal of the game – both players looked over the moon.
What a player this lad can be for Newcastle in the future, and he’s already bringing the best out of Steven Taylor, and two 20 year olds of similar skill to the two South Americans we now have at the club, will do very nicely, thank you very much.

Comment #7Di Maria is very quick, and has a sweet left foot. Good footballing brain too for one so young, as he scored a smart goal against Nigeria.

Comment #8Would love it if we could get Di Maria, and I’ve got him on my FM08 team 😛 Haven’t heard of the other guy, but if he’s good enough for the Argentinian Olympics team he must be reasonably good.

Comment #11I cant see alot of truth to this. KK obviously wants a LB not Senderos, I laughed how everyone reported this. The reporter said to Keegan ‘So Senderos’s father say you and Milan are after his signature?”, KK said “So has would have two very good clubs to choose from then” and everyone thinks we are interested he was clearly joking. Since Milan have come out too and denied the rubbish. After the LB is addressed we are after another CM obviously creative and able to chip in with some goals. Di Maria is a LW and considering we could play 4 of our squad there would be a complete was of cash. Plus Benfica would expect silly money for him as he has been one of there best signings of recent times, so much so they have loaned Freddie Adu out. As for Buonanotte he is certainly a talent, and plays CM/LM although being 5ft 2″ and certainly not stocky its another issue especially considering the money they claim for players in Argentina Ever Banega was a good young player but after one season joined Valencia for a potential £20m. I would mind us bringing in some south americans but I dont think these are really likely or realistic. And more over out of our financial league. As for Malouda oh hang on where does he play oh yeah LM some writers need to start thinking before they publish there shite

Comment #13Both players fit the new transfer policy of recruiting younger players.
Di Maria is a really good left winger but we don’t need one at the moment unless Duff or N’Zogbia left, I also think that Benfica want nothing less than 20 million for him! Would be a real coup though.
It would be nice to have some future stars in our team like Aguero, Messi et al. Players who become world class!

Comment #14I think this is just another gossip and wont happen.
I also hope we don’t sign Malouda, 12 million is too much for him.

Comment #17This is exactly what we need to improve our squad. 20 isn’t that young these days. Fabregas anyone.
Yes we won yesterday but other than the 2 Argentines and a couple of others, we are still so lacking in top class players .
There are still so many people that need to be got rid of, both for financial and / or a lack of ability, over the hill or ‘’sicknote” reasons and not retained purely for sentimental reasons and to pad out the squad.
1) Duff a waste of time on 70K a week and surprise surprise, injured again.
2) Smith absolutely useless on 60K a week.
sell for 4M and save 12.5 in wages.
3) Butt – aging now and more and more making potentially fatal errors. 50K a week!
4) Barton – unavailable for large periods due to his many indiscretions and he probably stops a lot of kids watching and other players signing for us.
Barton is KK’s real blind spot. Get rid and save 12.5M in wages, especially as he’s not even playing for the forseeable!!
5) Milner – you got to like the guy, but for 9M come on, no way is he that good!
6) Viduka – another invisible man on 60k a week.
Hardly the overly committed type is he!
7) Geremi – occasional good cross but his best days are behind him and he’s on 60K a week. Adebayor is on 35K. Who would you rather have? Another legacy of Shepherd’s stupid wage structure.
Taylor – I still don’t see it. If Nolan had scored, it’s a different story. Time and again Taylor makes really stupid dumb decisions. He’s very lucky to have Colo alongside him.
9) Owen – what do we do with Owen? Yes he scored the winner and scoring is a very valued commodity.
However, despite being KK’s captain, Owen is uncommitted ( still won’t sign a new contract after months and months), appears to be greedy and self serving, has lost his pace and above all is extremely injury prone and won’t be seen for long stretches of the season.
Bring on 2 more Argies.

Comment #20Can we just establish that player like Owen is a multi-national business. To call him greedy is to toally miss the point. There is a boardroom full of the world’s greediest agents surround him and THEY are the one’s that won’t accept a cut in THEIR commision. He will have very little choice in the matter.

Comment #21its a good idea bringing in young players for the future, but toon need players now, we dont have a fully fit striker in the squad unless you include smith, LB is a big problem and we need a top midfield player, but the length of time its taking to get players signed I just cant see this happening

Comment #24Love argentinian players and these two lads sound great…just hope we don’t end up with a Tevez and Mascherano situation as there always seems to be alot of contractual/passport baggage with many of the argentinian players.
Good result yesterday happy lad…now where’s the wow signing?

Comment #25Excellent post Nick and i totally agree with you on all the comments…the players mentioned should be shipped out..I have a feeling Owen wants to go on a free transfer and I think he can start talking to other clubs at xmas.
I would much prefer 2 new strikers and get rid of viduka, owen and ameobi and Carrol as well.

Comment #29Both these players would be breathtaking signings but I think that we are unlikely to get either as both are tracked by the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Barca, and Real. If we could could get either or I would go and buy the recruitment a very large drink as these two are future world stars. I see today that we’re linked with Malouda if Chelsea sign Robhino…do we really need another left winger? He’s hardly be prolific for them and @ £12m i don’t rate him. Great to have you back Ed I thought I had lost the best NUFC site on the web….was over the moon when you came back.

Comment #31bring the best out of taylor!! the boy conceded a penalty yesterday, i don’t think bobby moore could get the best out of that lad. yeh he’s young and deserves a chance but look at micah richards and david weater there both around his age and far more acomplished, . we need another centre back!! along with atacking midfielder left back and forward!

Comment #33we won the game ugly against bolton which imo is good ,as they are a strong physical team that are hard to break down ,and last season we would have lost the game1-0,so its got to be positive!!looks like kk going to be busy this week getting his 2-3 players in ,not malouda though, dont rate him at all ,rather have the zog !!!

Comment #36Big Willie – are you ona wind up again? I think I saw all those on Total Football or Club Call or some such yeserday. Sorry mate if you’re being up front and honest but I’m not convinced we’ll sign 4 or 5 like. 2 or 3 maybe…
That said, there are pros and cons for all these players:
1. Philipe Senderos – not good enough. Even the Arse faithfull are very critical of his regular mistakes. Why do we need him? He wont get in ahead of Colo, Taylor or Bassong or even Ca-crapa.
2. Valencia is excellent and young, quick, tricky and good crosser. Would improve most sides BUT he’s another winger. Will he get to play in front of Jonas, Milner, Duff or Zog?
3. Malouda – same as Valencia, except he is world class. Not really shown it at Chelski but coud be good for us. Would get ahead of Duff and Zog.
4. Kadlec is good and young but inproven in a top league, while Jankulovski is 31. Both play in the same position and come from the same nation. (Although Jankulovski can play anywhere on left and is skillful.) Are we really after two players from same country to play same position? mmmm
We do need signings but not convinced these will be the ones.

Comment #40Well, we have had allot of rumours lately and most of them have been to good players like Lahm, Huntelaar, Xavi and now Malouda and Jankulovski, but whoever we sign… Known or unknown… I now have the utmost trust and respect for KK and the team responsible for bringing in players. They have signed 3 players, and not ONE of them have been anything but a great signing. So buy a few more lads, and get us into Europe for next season…
