Are Newcastle Really In For Malouda?

August 24th, 2008 · 71 Comments

We are linked with lots of players in today’s papers, but that’s hardly surprising because we’re always linked with players in the summer.

Florent Malouda - are Newcastle really interested?

But it’s especially true now when Kevin says he wants to bring in three or even four new players in the next 8 days.

The latest player doing the rounds as a Newcastle target is Chelsea’s Florent Malouda, but exactly which source this is from is hard to tell.

It looks like it’s The Daily Mail but they have a whole list of players they say Newcastle are interested in - just in case they may actually get one right.  :D

The players they link Newcastle with are Malouda, along with Antonio Valencia, Marek Jankulovski, Michal Kadlec and Philippe Senderos.  We may even be interested in one of those, since we think Kevin still wants a left back and a center-back for our defense, and maybe a central midfielder and one new striker up front.

The 28 year old Frenchman is a good player and very experienced, having represented France 42 times and played for Châteauroux, Guingamp and Lyon, before moving to Chelsea in 2007 for around £13M.

Any move for Malouda is reportedly dependent on Robinho moving to Chelsea, but if he becomes available we’re sure there’ll be more than Newcastle in for the player.

The fee is said to be around £12M, but we see no real proof that Newcastle are even interested in the player, but he would no doubt be a skilled and experienced addition to the squad, but whether he’s worth £12M is the real question.

We have a feeling there’s better and younger available players for less than that figure.

But we’ll see soon, since there’s not too long to wait until midnight of September 1st coming around, and it’s looking like that could be another late night for Newcastle supporters.

Comments welcome.

there is absolutely no chance we are going to or would want to sign malouda. he is a good player but we have duff, zoggie, milner and now guti who can play on the left. lets just forget about it becoz its bs

  • 3 Spyro // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:05

good player, but at 28yrs old, 12million is too expensive IMO.

DOubt it is true anyway, i cant remember the last time the media over here got anything right

  • 4 toooooonfan // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:06

ashley did promise a wow signing but if this is it i will be disappointed

  • 5 Ross // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:06

hope not to be honest. dont think we really need another winger and 12 mil for someone who hasnt exactly performed in the prem seems really steep. suppose it can be argued he hasnt exactly been given a proper chance at chelsea though.
use the 12 mil to buy an AM, then get in cover at LB and a foil for oba/owen, and we’re sorted i reckon!

  • 6 valle1 // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:08

Well, on the look of yesterdays game, we need to look at players with vision and top class passing… KK plays the passing game and all 3 signings have both vision andsing, even Colo who is a centrehalf by trade.

On a side note… What happened to the Duff we saw in preseason?, he missed AT LEAST 2 top class oportunities to play Oba entirly free in a very dangerous position, that said, Oba’s touch and passing where bad too, but who can blame him with what he has been through if he had something else on his mind… We really need to stop giving the ball away and work on our final balls, because if we get that right, anything can happen.

  • 7 Toon1978 // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:08

Not sure 12 million for Malouda tbh

  • 8 GEORDIE69 // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:08

HAHA another bollocks rumour!!! Zog and Duff are better!

  • 9 Spyro // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:12

Ed, comments are taking way too long to come up on here

  • 10 Carrick // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:13

I don’t want Malouda if I’m honest, no real pace and only made to look ok when surrounded by Chelsea players. Could get alot better for £12m!

  • 11 Mr Noisy // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:19

    Chelski misfit!! Don’t want him.

  • 12 liamtoonbirchy // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:19

dont want him. good player but we need a young hungry box to box central midfielder.

Kuzmanovic, Appiah, Affelay,M.Johnson, Nolan,Inler,Bullard,Palacios. There is loads but we need to get the right one to play alongside Guthrie.

  • 13 gorskino10 // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:22

28 and 12mill no way… get Arda for that posision for that [rice or even Di Maria.
Same with Jankulovski would be a good signing but depends if we can get him on loan.

  • 14 Ben_BKK // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:23

I second Spyro’s comment, there seems to be something wrong with the comments, and they take ages to appear.

I’m also wondering who Michal Kadlec is…at first I thought you meant Alan Kardec, but I doubt it’s him…any ideas?

  • 15 craig // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:24

no way poor in a good Chelski side

  • 16 liamtoonbirchy // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:24

  • 19 NUFCFAN // Aug 24, 2008 at 13:58

really dont rate malouda, not quick enough and he has some of the best players in the world with him at chelsea to help him - if he cant do it there cant seee him doing in anywhere else. he lacks pace i think to be World Class.

prefer that ben navus player (spelling!) but the brazilian kid with the left foot who put the free kick in. and there are a whole host of younger more promising french players too. he would be a waste of time

, Nzogbia is the same player i think but has youth on his side so can still improve.

bring in the argies - excited about that.

looking forward to seeing who comes in next week. Exciting times are back, and believe the future is bright under Ash and Keegan - havent felt like that in years.

I know we are only two games in, but we would have lost both of those games last year. The Arsenal game is going to be fascinating with them just losing to Fulham and with us on the rise and full of confidence anything is possible

  • 25 Michael // Aug 24, 2008 at 14:17

12 million for a left winger who has been a flop in England. Great journalism yet again. They could at least make up rumours about players in the positions we are looking to stregthen.

  • 26 bruTOOON // Aug 24, 2008 at 14:17

we got younger zoggy, better duff, milner and jonas that can play on the position…..so why waste 12 million?

  • 27 toon till i die // Aug 24, 2008 at 14:19

    Recipe for an article:-
Daily Mail sports reporter’s girlfriend rings - She and her busty mate want taking out. She tells him she’s already in her party dress and not much else. He groans he’s a deadline to meet with a fresh story…journo fans out his Panini cards and his mate picks one - stick NUFC on the top, type out few rudimentary facts on said player (from back of the card), mention Ashley selling(from previous toon archive), KK would luv it, desperate fans, press ‘Send’. …packs toothbrush and off we go! Easy.

No no no, they’re not in for him. 10 mill punds for a 28 year old lad.
In Ashelys eyes that must be a very poor deal, cause that’ll be 10 mill u’ll never see again.
Im not even speculating on that one.

I hear Saviola’s interested in coming if Real will let him go.

  • 43 Matthew Tom // Aug 24, 2008 at 15:29

Saviola would be good. Malouda’s done nothing in a year and I’d need some serious convincing that he has anything to offer a team where N’Zogbia, Duff and Gutierrez are also fighting for the left wing spot.

Good result on saturday , clean sheet and 3 points ,carn’t wait to see who signs next week after being linked with anyone who plays football , hopefully not malouda though

  • 54 The Entertainers // Aug 24, 2008 at 18:35

It puzzles me why alot of players of late linked to us are left wingers / left midfielders.

    Arda
    Reyes
    Malouda
The new Argie fellow @ the olympics

Do we really need a left winger when we have

    Duff
    Jonas
    Zog
    and even Milner

The only positive i can see is having a quality LW, say Arda or Malouda and play Jonas on the right and have two very positive wingers playing.

Kev loves his wingers, the fans love attacking football and Ashley loves fans …..(filling his stadium).

Perversely an average result against Bolton and less than 50,000 fans in the stadium culd work for us and get Ashley to dig deep !

    Heres hoping.

  • 58 Ammo // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:01

    Hi there guys,,

Just have a little bit of information. I was stood around byt the St james main reception yesterday waiting for my mate who had my season ticket. he didnt appear until about 3.05pm but i was more than interested in what was going on in the reception.

Two of our players - Kezenga Lua Lua (on crutches incidentley) and Wesley Ngo Baheng were chatting to a south american looking lad.

Now ive spent the majority of today trying to find a player that looks similar and the closest i can get is that De Maria guy, though the guy in the reception looked far more well built than the pics ive seen of him.

Im Sure it was a potential signing, looked in his early 20’s with olive skin.

So remeber you heard it here first.

Ps- it could just be a mate of the boys though i hope not!

  • 59 ToonRich // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:13

A question to the fans that dont want Malouda or another winger…
Q: Who do we play on the wing if Milner does get sold, and if Duff is out for more than a month or two??

IMO Malouda could be a better option than Duff, allowing KK to play Jonas on the right :)

  • 60 daiv // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:15

  • 61 justeye // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:16

whoever newcastle sign in the next 8 days have to be the right personality to fit into our squad we are in desprate need off top class young player like arsnals adybyor or cesc fab or manus rooney ronaldo ,we should also pick up sendros not the most fashionable choice but a fairly tidy defender whos done all right 4 the gunners so why not us also we need a good right back and why not go for finnan from liverpool would prove v good competition to beye apart from that most importantly offload ameobi and bring in bianchi from man city would prove an excellent signing under keegan and his style of football that guy is some player if you cater for him

  • 62 Toon Graeme // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:48

I think it will go down to the wire this week!

  • 63 scottish mag // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:52

u guys cant tell me u wouldnt of had him if he played like he did for lyon, i mean he must have shown something for chelski to splash out 13m on him

  • 64 skin d // Aug 24, 2008 at 20:55

according to the ever reliable wikipedia, malouda is a newcastle player.

  • 65 nightfall // Aug 24, 2008 at 21:15

    shearer4pm - :D

personaly i’d love if we got AT LEAST zhirkov from that 3…i mean jonas and zhirkov bombing from the wings…good luck gallas, toure, etc. :)

  • 66 Dave // Aug 24, 2008 at 21:27

    No Chance on Malouda.

If any Chelsea players come here in the next week it’ll be Wayne bridge and Shaun Wright-Phillips….mark my words.

  • 67 Lee H // Aug 24, 2008 at 22:54

Well we have a history of signing players from Chelsea, who knows ?

Hardly a wow signing, but a decent one if no one else appears.

    MORNING LADS!!!

Great result on the weekend,Bolton are a very difficult team to break down & then we go and beat them with a HEADER??? AHAHAHAH…football is a funny game

Also on Mickey Owen,(from last season too) for a small man he scores a lot of headers(name one other small man who scores more headers) We NEED him to SIGN ASAP :-)

We also need three more in ATLEAST!!!
    LB,AM,STR
    PLS THE TOON!!!!

  • 70 t-g-w // Aug 25, 2008 at 13:52

Don’t rate him at all. We already have better players than Malouda at the club.

Don’t believe this is a true story either as I thought Malouda was unhappy in England full stop so wanted to move abroad. hence the poor performances for Chelsea.

  • 71 scott9 // Aug 25, 2008 at 17:38

i agree with the person who said jimmy bullard would be a gud signing he is outstanding i dnty see why we dnt go for him he is an exellnet player he can pass cross tackle everything and wudnt come to expensive.

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
