Kevin Nolan played a crucial part in the Newcastle-Bolton game on Saturday when he failed to put away the penalty they were awarded after 57 minutes.
Kevin Nolan - crucial penalty miss
To be fair to Kevin it wasn’t too bad of a penalty, well hit and to the goalkeeper’s left, but a world class double save by our goalkeeper Shay Given tuned the game.
Kevin Nolan talked to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:
“That’s the Premier League, if you don’t take the chances you don’t get anything and you get sucker-punched.” “Michael Owen did what he does best, so credit to him.”
“The penalty miss was the turning point for us.” “The crowd got behind them after that.” “We kept them to a few chances, they had a lot of the ball but not loads of chances.”
“They only needed one chance and they had the right man to get it, it was the wrong man for us though.” “Fair play he is back doing what he does best but you have to keep on top of him or he will do that.”
“The penalty miss was the turning point for us.” “The crowd got behind them after that.” “We kept them to a few chances, they had a lot of the ball but not loads of chances.”“Fair play he is back doing what he does best but you have to keep on top of him or he will do that.”
“They only needed one chance and they had the right man to get it, it was the wrong man for us though.”
And Bolton Manager Gary Megson though his team did at least enough to take a pioint, and he also had some sympathy for Nolan as he said:
“People do miss penalties, but since I have been manager of Bolton we have missed the three penalties we have had, all with different takers.”
“We have got to start scoring from those opportunities. A fair result is neither here nor there.”
“We had an opportunity to get something from the game and I feel win the game, but we didn’t take that.”.”
Both Kevin Nolan and Megson have taken their loss well, and that kind of attitude from both player and manager will surely see them do a lot better in the league this season.
As for Newcastle, it’s a great start – but we have to produce the goods week in and week out to do well this season.
We have the players that can do that, but we need greater numbers to get over injury and loss of form problems.
Come on Mike – get that money out!

To be fair i think the penalty and the one near the end was the only chance they had and they came for the point and put everyone behind the ball. Any team that does that doesnt deserve anything from the game.

This kid Karl Watson calling NUFC boring, i think this pr1ck wants to look at his own team Boro to see who the boring team is, has he forgotten about that fan that fell asleep watching the Boro, this is why i hate the Boro so much to the point i prefer the macums. Boro fans the most fickle i have ever seen i would LOVE it JUST LOVE IT if they got relagated.

the exact info is
According to reports in Norway, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United have made bids in the region of £6million for Rosenborg midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred. The Norwegian club are set to decide on the offers at a board meeting, with Tottenham and Portsmouth also linked with Skjelbred.
13 ed_speed // Aug 25, 2008 at 18:44

How good is this Skjelbred, would he get into the first 11 straight away?
15 ed_speed // Aug 25, 2008 at 18:46
he is standard, thats all.
would rather an arsharvin esque player, tbh.

Going to Coventry tommorrow night, with the lack of fit strikers, does anyone reckon we should give Zamblera a go alongside Owen and see how they get on, as good a time as any to play him against a reasonable championship side.
19 Patrick // Aug 25, 2008 at 18:55
I agree with giving Zamblera a chance…
is Skjelbred a Butt-type midfielder though? I am thinking that we should sign someone to play that position sharing the workload with Nicky.

ed speed i rememeber a few weeks ago when david craig ‘confirmed’ that infian dadgey was interested aswell

23 Graham // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:02
Well said Punk Skunk! Their only shot on target was the penalty and while we didn’t create a hatful, we went for the win - not with the idea of getting a 0-0 draw.
Got exactly what they deserved in the end - Sweet bugger all
24 Toon1978 // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:02
Is it just me but do you not think Wednesday is a little bit late to be talking about Transfers and Owens contract, it gives KK a few days to get in who he wants in a few days if this is what the meeting is all about?
25 scottish mag // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:03
whos infian dadgey?????
26 ed_speed // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:04
like i said earlier i will never attend a game involving bolton again.

27 obaistheman // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:04
It wud be stupid to get a butt-esque player, we need creativity. Hope we get this skjelbred fella.
28 ed_speed // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:06
oba he’s the one there talking about being butt esque
29 Marguerite // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:08
No sympathy for them at all Ed. In fact I could not be happier - I hate Bolton I cannot stand the way they play; ugly manager, ugly team, ugly football just like it was under fat Sam.
The sooner these sort of teams drop into the championship the better.

i think the above posters will find that ryan donaldson is ahead of zamblera in pecking order and more likely to play tomorrow night.
31 beyethegreat // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:09
given
beye bassong edgar/tozer/kadar enrique

34 Punk Skunk // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:17
Well Shot Bru,
i’d defo play someone up with Owen & not a midfielder!..Like you say: as good a time as any to blood a young ‘un!..

http://www.pafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/YouthNews/0,,10364~1369082,00.html
In there, a brief mention about the youth team missing the goal scoring ability of Aaron Spear, who was recently transferred to Newcastle!
36 Graham // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:23
Not sure if he’s fit but why not stick Smith up front with Owen?
Might be an ideal opportunity to get a goal and some confidence going in him.
Mind you, he had that chance against Doncaster & Hartlepool!
37 Punk Skunk // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:23
cov game might be a good oppotunity to make a 433 team from other players…inc reserves?..
38 Patrick // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:25
If we can prove Fabio Zamblera (and even Ryan Donaldson) can do the job, we don’t need to sign forwards, right? just coz we already have the force!
We instead need to pay more attention to the midfield. Maybe a lot of us are thinking of a creative midfielder, but I also think, again, KK tends to play more from the flanks. Besides, Danny Guthrie has been doing a great job. We need to give Nicky Butt a lift by sharing his workload in the long run.
39 Graham // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:26
Tom - are they not keeping a lid on Spear in order to allow him to settle in the area before putting him in the big wide world of the media? He’s only 15 after all (or 16)
40 Shot Bru! // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:26
I agree Punk Skunk, no point playing a mid up front. Its not like we are playing a game where we are desperate for points and have no other option but to play Zamblera with heaps of pressure on his young shoulders. This way he can go out and enjoy himself alongside Owen and put in a decent performance.
41 Punk Skunk // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:26
Wouldn’t play smith in a month of sundays…It’s an important game (must win)…So we can’t afford to play with 10 men, not even against championship teams!..
…Sell/give to neverton, let him mash their system up!..
42 Patrick // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:27
…and I want to see the resurrected Alan Smith!!!
43 Seymour Butts // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:27
Shouldn’t write this skjelbred off I’ve heard he’s a good passer, has a decent shot, and likes to get stuck in. Although he has just signed a new contract so don’t know if we’ll get him. Also, in regards to the trialist that Nile Ranger fella definately signed - and scored in an U18 game against Leicester. Don’t know about the others but this wasn’t officially announced so the club could have signed some without us knowing? Your guess is as good as mine.
Regards - Seymour Butts
44 beyethegreat // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:27
thanks tom
and i am just thinking that with owen not properley fit we should save him for arsenal as we may just need him
45 thefuturesbrightthefuturesblackandwhite // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:28
squad numbers 4 and 5 still to fill so hopefully that would be a full back and central midfielder.
46 Punk Skunk // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:30
Y’right Shot Bru…
…Unless, in a Zog at LB style, play Jose up front!.. LOL!..
47 Tom // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:34
Your probably right Graham, same with Nile Ranger (as Seymour mentioned), they may be holding off on announcing until they are comfortable
48 Punk Skunk // Aug 25, 2008 at 19:40
Owen is properly fit…Or else he wouldn’t have played at all…Coaches just don’t want star players goin off on lame international duty one game in & other teams sniffing around at the end of the window…Think about it, it makes sense!..
…Loads of players for the usual suspects get pulled just before int games, then are fit 2 days later…Amazin’ that!..
