After 20 minutes of a game that was very even, Newcastle started to exert their class, and for the rest of the half were the better side, and were starting to tear Coventry apart with excellent goals by N’Zogbia and Milner.
But then right on the stroke of half time, Coventry scored out of nowhere to get right back into it.
The first 15 minutes was even with Coventry matching Newcastle for work rate, but then a beautiful move by Newcastle opened up the Coventry defense completely and Milner was on his own out on the left and put in good cross with his left foot for N’Zogbia to tap home.
A simple but well executed goal after 21 minutes by Newcastle.
After the goal Newcastle started to stroke the ball around beautifully and it was all Newcastle after 30 minutes and several chances were missed with both Milner and N’Zogbia prominent. Owen was seen warming up - no doubt Kevin thinking Michael could have already scored a few.
At the back both Enrique and Bassong were giving accomplished performances and it was little surprise when Newcastle went further ahead after 38 minutes when a left wing cross from Milner found the back of the net, with Geremi worrying the goalkeeper.
But after Newcastle were looking to increase their lead even further, before half time, Clinton Morrison had the ball in the net with a beautiful shot, from just outside the area to put Coventry right back in this game.
Newcastle missed a few chances and it could well be that we’ll see Michael Owen in the second half, who can put some of the chances Newcastle missed in the first half into that net.
Overall, it was an excellent first half display from Newcastle, but the lads should be more than one goal up given their performance in the first 45 minutes.
Coventry are right back in this game and an all out final 45 minutes is still necessary from Newcastle if they are going to get the win tonight.
We can take nothing for granted and Coventry are giving it all they have.

Alexw, don’t get me wrong, i think and hope he is going to be class for us but just from watching the games and highlights, some of chances/goals against us he’s followed the wrong man wide -maybe assuming other player was covering?
He does break up a lot of play and positioning seems ace so should be a great buy but just an observation.

Seriously… BUTT..? what do you guys think of him?? Do you rate him or?? Start wondering if i’m totally blind…?
His job is to protect the defence, but what I see in our mathes so far is that Jonas does that job at least twice as much as Butt.. and Milner does that, and ….. etc. etc.. Everyone else does that but they shouldn’t have to.. They should consentrate on the attacking play..
He can’t shoot, he can’t even pass a simple pass without giving me a heartattack..
So what do you think of him??
