Toon Transfer Talk Today on Tyneside

There is not as much news linking us with new players as we would have either hoped for, or expected today.

Javier Saviola
– loan deal may be fading but we think this could still happen

  • We reported last night that sources in Norway claim that Newcastle are interested in Rosenborg midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred. Blackburn Rovers are also said to be interested. The transfer fee quoted at £6M is probably closer to £4M, although Rosenborg have denied there has been any approach yet from Newcastle.
This seems reasonable since they’re going to keep quiet until any deal is completed.
  • News today that Tiago will probably be staying in Italy with Juventus.
New manager and former Chelsea manager Ranieri had been furious with the player, but now seems to have changed his position and wants Tiago to stay – what a soap opera.
Both Newcastle and Everton had been interested in a one year loan deal, but that will probably not now happen, although you never know.
  • There is still lingering news linking us with Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda, who hasn’t done particularly well at the London club, and will be available for around £12M.
Florent only moved to Chelsea last summer for £15M, from Lyon, and hasn’t settled too well, but we think the fee is a bit steep.
  • The Daily Mail is reporting we are still interested in Blackburn Rovers left-back Stephen Warnock. We think that’s very likely true, and that Kevin would love to bring the former Liverpool youngster to Newcastle – we could well still pull this one off.
  • There was news over the weekend that Javier Saviola would be willing to come to Newcastle, but only if Real Madrid didn’t want him. The piece was reported in the Sunday Sun but with no evidence of who he said that to, or what the context was, in which it was said.
Only a couple of says before Real Coach Bernd Schuster had reportedly had a heart-to-heart with Saviola, and the German coach allowed Javier to keep the number nine shirt as a show of faith.
We have a sneaking suspicion this deal however could be one of those resurrected and pulled off at the last minute – we’ll see – hope so.

That seems to be it, although new news linking us with another player, can break quickly in the remaining days of the transfer market.

Not much going on right now – but we have a good chance of going through in the Carling Cup tonight at Coventry City.

Comments welcome.

We are being linked with Mbia, as well as a mystery young player from Southampton (smacks of them finally announcing Nile Ranger)

A lot of the names we get linked to are due to our club throwing red herrings to the media. So they can go after their real targets.

One thing is for sure, whoever KK wants in during the next 6 days, they better be quick because a lot of clubs will be after the same players. So no haggling over a few million here and there, just pay what is required!

may be quiet on our front, but then it has been all summer, so i’m not concerned by the club seemingly wanting to keep things quiet.

in other news, we can all breathe a sigh of relief that anton ferdinand is joining the mackems. they really are signing a load of overrated players.

    remind you of anyone, much?

    2 + 2 = 5

Keegan and Ashley have been saying for a month that one transfer would not happen until the end of the month, why?
My guess is that the player we are getting has been to the olympics or they are waiting for a player to return before they will release the other. Like Alonso might be allowed to go now Mascherano is back.

Obviously would be nice to get more backup in every position but essentially all we “need” is a left back and a striker.

the midfield is fairly covered with nearly all of them being able to okay in multiple positions across the four/three man midfield.

for all the people calling for the moutinhos and similar players, granted they are very good but unless they are coming in to take up owens creative midfielder role behind our strikers they have no place in our team. if they are played in our current 4 man midfield we will be over run as well as hampering the game of guthrie/barton as they will have to do all the defending on their own.

up front right now we desperately need a top striker, as all our ones are injured. my question is tho that when owen oba and viduka are fit what is the point in having a top striker on the bench collecting his wages, depreciating in value to be sold on for less when unhappy. i would like to see a young very talented striker brought in who can learn from the others as well as developing into something great for us.

sorry waffled on for too long here

On a separate note, come on Chelsea and give Spurs a good thumping at the weekend. Meaning Spurs will have had their worst start to a season in 30 years and will be bottom of the league!

I just hope we sign at least 3 quality players don’t really care who they are as long as their quality not like the mackems who seem to be signing quantity rather than quality

How slow can your blog go!

I really hope we get the players we need in this week. I don’t think I can stand the tension of last years disappointments.

It would be nice to get the 3 quality players we need before the last day so we can relax and not biting our finger nails to the bone at 11.55 on Monday night.

    why not go for either:
    Joe Cole
    Essien
    Malouda(already a target)
    John Obi Mikel
    SWP
or maybe Cladio Pizarro on loan to next transfer window

Because they already have a massive midfield
    Ballack
    Deco
    Lampard
    Robinho(soon)
    S. Kalou

I think the mackems have done good business to be honest and you can’t say Keane has not been backed by the sunderland board over the last 2 seasons,i mean they spent 9m on 1 goalkeeper when did we spend that kind of money on a player?

I am not getting involved in any Ashley bashing but surely Mike can see that we need players i am crossing my fingers but not listening to any media stories if we don’t get anyone decent then so be it..I just don’t think this will make the fans or Keegan happy..would have been nice to get Arshavin,Turan and them kind of players..the fans do need something to shout about rather than watching bitter rivals spend like money is no object.

Even tonight 2 games into the season the squad looks thin.

Forget what Sunderland have spent will you. They have bought terribly…a bunch of bad bling boys.

Chimbonda has been fined already for being late for training and Diouf had a spat with the physio at the weekend….and they’ve only been there a week.

As for ourselves, even the Daily Mail or the Daily Mackhem as I call it, says Ashley should back Keegan big time in the next 6 days because he’s proved with the first two results that he’s the right man for the job.

I think people need to relax and just be patient! Yes there is only a few days left now and yes, if nothing happens feel free to target Ashley and Wise etc, but until then, you don’t know whats going on behind the scenes, so relax and ride it out 🙂

The lack of any news is very encouraging. It means that the press are finally realising that they are making twunts of themselves with all their fabrications and that nobody will be able to guess KK and Wisey’s targets until they’re signed.

Nobody saw any of our signings so far coming – and how good do they look? I’m excited about the next week. Good things happen when the rumour mill goes quiet.

Bosck you are talking bollocks ! so if we bought Arshavin for 22m tomorrow you would be unhappy with that because we paid a bit over the odds?

Nonsense this is football mate and football is all about money say everton offer a player 50k a week and 10m transfer you would be unhappy if we offered 12m and 60k a week?

It’s all about the money speculate/accumulate.

The only 2 signings i’m jealous of Sunderland are Malbranque and Cisse.

    My 4 this week would be;
    Derdiyok
    Pocognoli
    Skjelbred
    Turan

Derdiyok to set up goals and target forward.
Pocognoli for being a natural left back who attacks.
Skjelbred for his age/potential and loves the toon, sounds like another Guthrie to me.
Turan because I don’t think Duff will last a full season and can’t carry on good form, or that Zog is good enough on the wing.

the Tevez story was on the Man Utd blog at the weekend. They were complaining that if they bought Berbatov then they’d have 3 Newcastle supporters in their team (Carrick, Tevez, and Barbetov).

My Argy mate told me years ago that Tevez was a big Newcastle fan, but I never thought much of it
