James Milner Asks For A Transfer

News is breaking from the official Newcastle United official site that James Milner has requested a transfer from Newcastle United.

James Milner – has put in a transfer request

Newcastle United have issued a club statement today.

Newcastle United can confirm that it has received a written transfer request from James Milner.

The Club is very disappointed that James sees his footballing future as being away from St. James’ Park. He is a valued member of the squad and it is only a year ago that he signed an improved long-term contract.

We have yet to receive an offer for James that has matched our valuation of him.

However, should such an offer be received then the Club would be reluctantly forced to consider it, given James’ apparent desire to leave.

This is a complete and utter shock to us.

And since Martin O’Neil was at the Coventry game last night, when James was MOM of the match, we can only assume that Villa have got to the player. But that may be alittle harsh on Villa and O’Neil who usually play everything above board.

But he did enjoy an excellent year at Villa Part from 2005-2006, and ONeil has wanted him ever since. But under Kevin Keegan he has looked an even better player that he was last season even.

That’s one reason, the other one is the club may have refused to give Milner the contract improvement he wanted. His agent has said repeadedly over the summer that James wanted a contract improvement.

But if we lose James Milner, our setup at the club must be wrong somewhere, and we are either not paying top wages for top players, or the insistence on too much cost controls is showing through.

We may still be able to save this – but this is a shocking surprising request and shows there are cracks appearing in the way the club is being run.

That’s what we think, and we feel gutted right now.

And we cannot think that manager kevin Keegan feels too much better.

Your comments and opinions are always welcome.

    NOOOOOOO 🙁

Young, bright, energetic… don’t go, James!

Is his head being turned by agents and Villa’s interest? That’s why I hate clubs doing business in the public.

Villa tapped him up. O’neill was at the game last night….turned his head.

If we sell him the board better have something up their sleeves.

keegan can’t keep working his miracles with this limited resources

After his display last night I will not be sorry to see him go – OK possibly one of his better showings. With the amount of the ball he has and the freedom he should of has a hatrick. How namy times does he turn back after beating the man, his delivery is even worse than Geremi. His stength is the aminut of work he does – other than that very ordinary imo

15million from Villa (if GB is 18 million) should do it – then lets get Moutinho, Derdiyok and inler

What cr@p! Where is he going to go that is much better than NUFC? Unless he is going to one of the top4 he is making a big mistake and unless we get more than 8mil we are stuffed.

Although I imagined Aston Villa’s courting of him could lead to a sale I’m totally surprised by the request. As with all who wish to leave, thanks for the memories, cheers for the hard work and now quickly fcuk off so we can go about replacing you. Players come and go. Unfortunately, he happens to be one of our more dependable and readily-available options. Let’s hope a replacement is as likely to stay off the treatment table and have the same sort of attitude. It also leaves another void to fill before next Monday. The fun just never stops around here eh?

Shame BUT if he wants to no point holding on to him. Wont do us any good.

How about we get Malouda or SWP then we could have

    SWP—Guthrie— Jonas –Zog/Malouda

Its not to bad especially if we get a big load of money and can use it else where quick!

Disappointed in every way to see the least. Why would he want to go? If he does we should get the cash together and just sign Arshavin.

I’m annoyed and gutted now. Hope Keegan doesn’t go now as well.

This is the last thing i expected from milner to be honest!

So now we need 5 players before the deadline! oh well!

anyone feels N’zogbia could be next!

I feel we now need to bring in 2 midfielders and a left back before the window closes. Possibly another striker as well, we are running out of time!

Keegan see’s him playing a big role, he signed a new contract only a year ago….

This smells like money… just money. Milners head has been turned at the chance to take a sidewaysstep into a bigger pay packet. Loyalty goes out the window when the green is waved in your face. Well If we get a £10m bid for him take the money and get in a few more players.

Jonas is better than Milner and this will also solve the selection headache of keegan trying to include Jonas Milner and N’zogbia.

gutted – he deserved motm last night and i really thought he would be a big player for us this year. the fact is hes so young yet hes got bags of experience.
still worst things could happen if we still only get in 3 players ill be optimistic, as his place has been taken by jonas who has impressed aswell.
    cheers

I am disgusted… especially if he goes to Villa. We should accept no less than 10 million for him but if we get that, then he can piss off. Get someone who wants to play for the club in instead of this charlatan.

    Arda Turan!!

I’m disappointed by this. Not because I see Milner as a key player but because he seems to think a move to Aston Villa would be a step up. What have they got to offer that we haven’t?

agree with Graeme, if barry is worth £18 mil then milner must be worth £15mil

Does look as though he has been tapped up like, he has always shown a lot of heart, lots of huff and puff, but if he wants to go then the club cant do much about it other than get the most pos for him and replace asap

Greed. He has not expressed since Keegan came his willingness to leave and Keegan has always fully backed him, so much so to say he is one of our best players.

In my opinion we could be a better team without him, if we get around £8m there has to be a right winger out there in that region. Milner can run, he was everywhere last night – but crossing is often dubious, a massive let down when he reaches the byline then knocks the ball to the gadgee on the front post which happened time and time again last night, which wa sover looked due to the running he did.

If he wants to leave, let him. I want to watch someone play for us who wants to play for us. I just hope it doesn’t stretch out to be a low profile Berbatov saga!

Milner knows that if Owen is injured again we are going nowhere, he only has one life, that is Milner and Zog who have wanted out, like someone wisely said above, cutting costs isnt always a good move, especially this year when quality seems to cost more than ever before.

We need a good quality striker in so we arent reliant on Owen (or anybody else) to finish in a decent position.

It also looks like we need a right winger, typical when we have three left wingers!

    SWP yes, Lennon no.

Looks like O’neil has got his way, he complains about Rafa then does exactly the same by unsettling our player!
I do think £9 mil would be a good deal, but so late in the transfer window gives us little time to find a replacement. I wouldn’t sell him to O’neil on principle.

I do recall Given putting in a transfer request about 6 years or so ago, and then realized it was a knee-jerk reaction to some things. Maybe this is happening with Milner?
