Keegan – I Don’t Even Want To Talk About Losing James

It now seems strange (if that’s the right word) that Kevin Keegan was full of praise for James Milner, after his man of the match performance last night at Coventry, when he made a goal for Charles N’Zogbia, and scored one himself, all in the first half.

Kevin Keegan – I don’t even want to talk about losing him

Keegan was talking about how good James was last night and even said he was one player he did not want to lose.

This is what Kevin said after the game last night:

“James has a three-year-contract,” “I do not even want to talk about losing him.”

“He is absolutely top notch – around the club, around the training ground. He is getting better and better every game.”

“Once you have played 30 games for the Under-21s you deserve a crack at the big time,”

“He is as good as, if not better than some of the lads who have had a chance.”

“He is one that Fabio Capello should have a serious look at. Capello needs to talk to a few people. He might not know James but those around him should.”

We have no idea of what the situation is with Milner, but if it’s something the club could ahve doine, and it was reasonable, it’s unlikely Kevin Keegan will be too happy,

We expect something to be resolved today, either that they have accpeted a bid for the player, or that some resolution with Milner has been reached.

If james leaves before next Monday this will be a very serious problem for the squad and for Kevin keegan too – he must be completely gutted right now.

And don’t forget Ashley is meeting with Keegan and Wise today, to sort out various transfer business, and also some contracts, but this is not one of the items we foresaw as being on the agenda.

£10 million for an average player like Milner is very good business. Should have been sold ages ago as far as I’m concerned.

You sign a new contract… and then a year later you hand in a transfer request… WTF… I thought you signed new contracts for purpose!

Would loved if he stayed! SWP, Lennon or Joe Cole would make me happy as replacements thou!

Maybe this meeting the toon were having today was the reason for the transfer requst…Maybe the toon offered Milner a new contract which wasnt acceptable to Milner….And maybe he knew he could get more money else where….If he wants to go let him,but only at the right price….Keegan always said he only wanted players who wanted to play for the toon….If we get offered say 10 million Id snap their hands off then go and get Wright-Philips……Milner was a good player but was never a great player…He is also not a winger as his crossing is shocking most times……Yes he had a good game last night, maybe one of the best games he’s had for the toon for a long time, but thats just it he doesnt do it often enough….This is just my opinion though…..We need to act upon it quick..lets see some action Ashley,we demand it…..;.But like I say this is just my opinion..

He might be average but that reveals our own quality when we rely on him being our number 10. As long as we get a good transfer fee and replace him with someone better I couldn’t be bothered.

    He’s a dribbling winger,
    Can’t shoot, can’t cross,
    He’s Jimmy Milner

10m i agree is excellent for a player of his ability or lack of it.

we all love him becuase he until today was a good lad and a grafter nowt else.

brum want 6m for seb larsson whos easily as good as milner imo and that would leave us 4m extra to up our warnock bid.

zogn could then play lw jonas rw seb as cover for across mf and both fb positions.

we could come out of this better than some people think, however i wont deny we could end up in an even worse position.

let him go. If we can double our money on a player who hasn’t developed in the four years he’s been there, and doesn’t really consistently have an end product.

He may have been motm last night but no disrespect; this was against a championship side. How many times has he been motm against the Man Us, Chelsea & Arsenals….

If we were offered £10m then I’d bite their hand off and help him pack his bags. Birmingham’s Larsson is a much better player and would probably be available for around 5-6m and I’m sure we were sniffing around him before.

not meaning to sound over dramatic or anything BUT we need at least 3 players b4 the window closing( 4 if we lose james) andwe need to convince james to stay!!

its a big week for kev and ash, and as ppl have been sayin all along lets wait until the window closes b4 making judgment. i totally agree but i fear it is not looking to good at all atm. come on guys, lets sort things out. this is what you earn your money for. heres to waking up on tuesday morning with an extra striker, creative midfielder and defender in our ranks along with james:):) HOPE

James might not be able to cross as well as the likes of N’Zog but we do not have a repacement for him at all, unless Jonas plays on the right and N’Zog at LW. Milner is quality i would be really gutted to see him go.

KK must b really pissed that the players ain’t coming in and now he can’t keep the players in either

or if hes off to pool, alonso?

yer i no prob jst dreaming and trying to turn a bad situation into a gd one.

bit shocked with the timing of this to be honest, but hey, if we get anything above 8m I would bite their hands off – like someone previously said, he hasn’t really progressed that much since joining the club; dribs and drabs – no way is he a 10m quality player – he works is arse off but has no end product – how many assists would he notch up this season? how many goals? i think both would be on the low end of the scale and i think most would agree

the only problem we now have is finding a BETTER replacement whether it be a CAM (Jonas to right) or a RW, or preferably both if we have serious ambition. We need to act now though, table a bid for SWP and offer him top wages. Milner has never showed signs of ever reaching the standards of SWP in my opinion and I seriously think we could get him on board. Imagine Jonas and SWP tearing up the wings, much better than Milner doing so

Cooper – he doesn’t need to give us a reason. That’s how football works thes days. If a player wants to go he (usually) gets his way. But if we get good money and spend it well then we’ll be OK. Shame to lose him but lads, lets not lose the plot over one player!

Hey, its not Andy Cole leaving for the Mancs…and we coped with that pretty well. Nor is it like Dalgliesh selling Sir Les, Ginola, etc. It’s a loss but we CAN cope.

well i cant believe yous are slagging milner of because he is class and he is only young and he is only going to get better i mean did anyone watch the match last night he was the best player on the pitch and man of the match so if we lose him we are in big trouble i mean take a look are we even close to bringing anyone else in no,no where near so yous are all on drugs to think milner is not that good

KK must be really angry now. He’s said on more than one occations that Millner is the last player he want to loose. Now look whats abouth to happen.

Furthermore, it looks as though incoming players are a no-go.

Anyone think KK will walk away?

OMG! This is a bad day!!! I bet there will be some news to feed on later today.

The press must be having a great day, since they like to put us down. Well, there is always something happening in our club. A real soap-opera for sure. pfff im sad, of the state this club is in….

i am not saying he is no good but, as long as we replace, i will lose no sleep over it – he wants to go!!! good luck to him, in all honesty, i think he will need it – if he joins Villa, do you think he is anywhere near the level of their other winger, Ashley Young? miles and miles from it

Let’s hope KK talks with Milner to verify why he wants to leave. If it’s because he thinks he needs more money, MA can hopefully offer him performance related incentives to increase his current salary.

I prefer we keep Milner but if we receive a good offer and doesn’t want to stay we may have to let him go if we find a suitable replacement!

It is a poor way to behave and a terrible benchmark to set to young footballers at the club.

Look people, don’t assume KKs talk about Milner last night means he is desperate to keep him at all costs. Its just the way KK operates…always backs his players. And he’s right to do so.

Think about it, if Milner stays he’ll know his manager thinks he’s brilliant and want to play for him – even if he doesn’t really want to be at the club. And if Milner leaves the buying club know KK rates him highly and he won’t go for cheap! Good, smart thinking by KK.

I seem to remember a lot of praise for a certain A Cole just before he left us!

Also, saying “I don’t want to talk about him leaving” doesn’t mean “I won’t be prepared to let him go”. It means KK didn’t want to interfere with the possible transfer. Sure, given the smal squad and Milner’s adaptability he’d like to keep him but if there are good replacements and money to be made…

Perhaps Milner didn’t like the sound of an imminent signing (SWP/Malouda/Turan, ok less likely) and decided to jump before he was pushed?

Big disappointment, I must admit, but perhaps £10m will soften the blow

    £10m. for Milner ?
    Take the money.
Aint a bad player, but where do you play him?
Cant play the wing, neither a great passer or tackler, cant take people on.
Honestly dont see why K.K. or M. O`N rate him.
(guess thats why they are managers)
If the guy wants out , let him go.
Put the money to wards a bid for a Moutinho or Veloso, real quality.
