Kevin Keegan talked to the Newcastle Journal this morning, and what he has to say about new signings is a little worrying. to say the least.
Kevin Keegan – doesn’t sound too confident on new signings
Kevin has new signings on his mind, as do all Newcastle fans right now, with just 5 days to go in the transfer window.
This is what Kevin said today to the Newcastle Journal when asked about the transfer situation:
“My optimism gets less the nearer that you get to the deadline. I’m still hoping that we’ll get a couple in, but if we don’t we’ll just have to soldier on,”
“I haven’t got enough players. I have lost five forwards and I’ve not got any people to come in. We had two teenagers on the bench tonight.”
“I suppose that if we don’t get any new players, I’ll just have to wait for all of those strikers to come back.”
As we reported earlier today, Kevin will have a meeting with owner Mike Ashley and recruitment head Dennis Wise, and we understand Managing Director Derek Llambias will also attend the meeting today.
There’s even talk of discussing a ?10M offer from Aston Villa for James Milner to be discussed, but if Newcastle accept that, we had better give up. Martin O’Neil, the Villa manager was at the game last night in Coventry.
We need to bring players in and James Milner and Michael Owen, who still has to sign a new contract at the club, simply cannot be allowed to leave.
This is the time Mike Ashley has to stand up and deliver for the club, and put some money on the line. As it turns out, we don’t have too long to wait to find out if he’s willing to do that, – the transfer deadline is in a short 5 days.
But if Kevin ends up short in numbers, there’s no excuse, because we’ve had all summer to correct that known problem.
And you could hardly have asked for better or more spirited performances from Kevin’s new team this season, but even the maestro cannot get blood out of a stone.
