Newcastle Reported After Marouane Fellaini – Video

August 27th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 288 Comments

There is news today from the Daily Mail that both Newcastle and Aston Villa are interested in Standard Liege midfielder Marouane Felliani.

Marouane Fellaini - 20 year old 6′5″ box to box midfielder

The 20 year old 6’5” Belgian, is a box to box midfielder, who has already played 79 times for Standard Leige scoring 11 goals, and he has represented his country Belgium 10 times with one goalHe can also play in defense.

Maouane doesn’t even turn 21 years old until late November, so this boy certainly seems to fit the bill.

Fellaini was born to Moroccan parents and began playing football at the age of seven for Belgian club Anderlecht.

He moved to a lot of different clubs while young and was at the club’s academy until the age of ten, when he joined Mons and three years later joined R. Francs Borains.

He then left the club and was signed by Sporting Charleroi, and when he reached 17 years old, in 2005, he signed his first full-time contract with Standard Liège and has played 79 games for the club already.

The transfer fee is reported to be a teep  ?10M, but this boy looks like a future star, from what we can tell.

Here is some video of the youngster.

Comments welcome.

He is insane! Also would fit the bill of signing players with unique characteristics,

    Colo and his curls!

    Fellaini and his monobrow!

But if we pull this one off, well what can I say? I just will be exstatic! :) , though I will not allow myself to get too excited as its probs more media BULL.

  • 2 Prandom // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:03 PM

Looks like an intresting prospect. 10 million seems alot for a 20 year old. Definately needs some new CM’s with butt getting older by the match. Hopefully will add some creativity, much needed.

ahh. fresh new signing speculation. beats all this about james milner, i don’t really care if he stays or goes.

Funny this story leaks when his club are playing Liverpool tonight.

Wouldnt put my house on it!

  • 7 justme // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:07 PM

he’s not a creative player!he’s a defensive midfielder great strength solid technique.he’s always present in a game.he’s a future star believe me!we should sign him if we get the possibility but i doubt we’d be able to sign him.he’s too good

  • 8 The Entertainers // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:08 PM

    @ Gallowgate

Sounds like the lasses in the pig & whistle

  • 9 Toony // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:12 PM

If he costs £10m then how much is Milner worth?

  • 10 Prandom // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:12 PM

Oh right, but still depth! and young!

  • 11 Ian // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:13 PM

    Very young.

  • 12 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:13 PM

    @Toony
    10m, so to speak.
So it’s really a mental game in between us and Arsetoom Villa!

  • 16 Luke // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:25 PM

Umm… didn’t any one actually watch the video? he scored a couple of headed goals… big woop. I could make a youtube video that made rafael nadal look like a good footballing prospect. Yes, he plays tennis.

    Chances are its rubbish anyway.

  • 19 Leo // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:40 PM

funny how he is also linked with aston villa

  • 20 Toon Raghav // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:40 PM

he is far more better then pathetic milner.even bramble has improved after these many years but milners mental age seems to be of the same 12 years kid.Milner is never going to mature as a footballer ,take him to rooftop n push him frm their toward villa

  • 21 A.L 9 // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:40 PM

    @Entertainers. haha lol

  • 22 harumph // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:47 PM

Just what I was thinking Luke – 3 goals from 15 angles is still 3 goals… you could make an Andreas Andersson NUFC montage that would look as good as that. Check out Martin’s FIRST SEASON at nufc for a ‘blow-me-down’ montage… Huntelaar has a 3.30 min montage just of bicycle kicks, so why are yees dafties all getting so carried away….
Get SWP in… followed by Huntelaar (dream) and Laursen. Line ‘em up with Guthrie, Jonas, Oba, Owen and Zog and watch us finish 4th or 5th this season.

  • 23 Dan13 // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:49 PM

    tom toon?

  • 24 bailey // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:53 PM

Plucking names out of thin air as usual.
Dont suppose Ashley is bothered about the disappointment NUFC fans will feel if there is no further positive incoming transfer activity.

Earlier on today I was sympathising with James Milner especially over the way he was messed about during the Roeder reign but since learning that it is not long since he signed a contract then that sympathy is waning rapidly.

  • 25 sirjasontoon // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:55 PM

He has just been arrested for stealing noel gallaghers eyebrows and is under uefa investigation.

Never look at players and make decisions from you tube i did that when we where signing luque and ruined a new pair of d&g underpants he looked that good.

After the milner news broke this morning i said we would have more days of speculation..it really is nonsense as are the 50+ other players we have been linked with…please window close soon then we can get really really angry, watch KK leave and have a relegation battle to keep us entertained.

  • 26 mitch // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:55 PM

no more news onthe meeting this is doing my head in we need a club statement

  • 27 sirjasontoon // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:58 PM

  • 29 sirjasontoon // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:59 PM

Mitch why do you need a club statement?

It will just be full of more lies and spin.

  • 30 beyethegreat // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:00 PM

not sure the vid shows very little and he would have to be outstaning in that league to even be average in the prem

  • 31 ed_speed // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:00 PM

we need creativity. not box to box players.

    that is all.

  • 35 mitch // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:05 PM

sirjasontoon club statement on owen contract would be good my main concern right now

  • 36 sirjasontoon // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:06 PM

Mitch…let’s look at it this way i will write with no big words so you understand.

    We need
    1 signings pronto
2 communication that is not all lies and spin
3 owen contract tied up(how many months has it been?)
4 idiots like you coming on here and the first sign of negative comments accusing people of being mackems blanked.

  • 37 ed_speed // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:06 PM

    calm doon lad! please!

whats the worst that can happen? we loose milner and don’t replace him. still leaves two (imo) better wingers at the club.

  • 40 beyethegreat // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:08 PM

and also agree with ed i think we need to replace milner with turan then we need some one in the centre to create that way when teams such as bolton come and sitback we will have some one to give our strikers a through ball instead of having to cross balls in

  • 41 dick // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:09 PM

cant wait till monday night and we will see exactly what players we have untill the new year transfer window, but I’ve a bad feeling it will be the players we have now apart from milner, cant see wise and co landing anybody in 4 days

  • 42 ToonFaith // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:09 PM

Ed Speed, if we don’t replace milner then when duff is out most of the season as usual and then either of jonas or n’zobia get injured we are screwed! we need 2 for every position, Geremi can cover yes, but not for a full 90 minutes and not every week, he’s too old.

  • 43 mitch // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:11 PM

  • 45 ashleys wallets cobwebs // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:13 PM

am just in a depression now after the whole milner thing and not because i think milner is so good, but because i was pleased last night thought we played some good stuff, then the match finished and i thought 6 days left , got up this morning 5 days , listened to metro on the hour going to work, nothing, bought every paper known to man , nothing, and then what we could lose a player, am sorry but this meating is to late and if we dont get the players in we will suffer, and mark my words if kk is not happy he will go and you know what i think i will follow, and i have been going since i was 7 years old and had a season ticket from being 12.

  • 48 sirjasontoon // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:20 PM

I am right behind the club but they need to deliver a team that has some depth for Keegan to weave his genius and magic over a season.

Here are my thoughts….Keegan is a top man and on paper we have some fantastic talent that he is starting to get to play football as we like to see it,we are 3 games into the season and we are already showing signs frailty by not even having a fully fit striker to put on the pitch for 90 mins.

Now my idea was that Mike would bring in 7/8 players hand picked by Kev and his team and strengthen what is the backbone of a decent side backing the keegan masterplan and challenge for europe that is not a big ask sunderland have brought in 9 players so far.

At present we are very thin on the ground in many areas including fit strikers…moving on in the season as real injuries and suspensions start happening we really are not prepared to deal with these negatives and will struggle..if that statement makes me a mackem in your eyes Mitch then you are entitled to your opinion.

Keegan has got us off to a flyer this season with very few options to pick from..if he is not backed fully he will not be hanging around this season.

  • 55 daiv // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:30 PM

Milner would be excellent business at 9 mil.
The problem is that we cannot keep selling players and buying none. After the first 15 players (and 3/4 of them are always injured) we are down to the juniors. MA must realize that the fans are being turned off in their droves. We need 3 top signings but it won’t happen and I hope the fans desert the ship so he sells up. Wait til Sunday I here some of you say before condemning him. Wake up and smell the coffee. We have signed four players in three months. How many in three days? Very few or none. So depressing. MA would be sacked if he were the manager. Still there are nutters on this blog who seem to believe MA is great for the club and all is well on the sinking ship SSS Newcastle.Mad me will keep turning up home and away.

  • 60 daiv // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:38 PM

    Keegan is King
So negative!!! So if we have never signed anybody that makes the lack of ambition this year OK? Negative and peverse reasoning. A negative to justify a negative.

  • 61 The Entertainers // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:39 PM

I hope theres some movement tomorrow and friday in the old transfer market.

If there isnt i fear the worst.

Rarely are transfer concluded over the weekend with teams involved in matches and that leaves Monday !!!

  • 62 beyethegreat // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:40 PM

with all due respect Ed if the press cant find negativity they will just make it up

  • 63 daiv // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:40 PM

Why are we still behind MA?
Tightest owner in the Prem. He wears a shirt and is in the crowd so he must be a top geezer?
He should be booed all the way to Spurs. And he will be after Monday. prepare to be disappointed by Mr Ashley

  • 64 t-g-w // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:41 PM

After the initail outcry, I’m not bothered if Milner stays or if he goes as long as we get in a replacement who is as good if not better. £10 Million is a great deal but only if we get someone else in – in his position let alone the 3 other positions we desperately need.

  • 65 neeraj // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:42 PM

its good that this milner situation has come up

this would help us to erase the concept that NUFC pays yoo 20-30k more then u deserve………

this sends a message earn your wage not in media but on the field…………

  • 66 daiv // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:42 PM

We have the makings of a good team but MA is not backing the manager. The manager is a God but should walk to force the ownerr out. MA is a mercenary fraud.

  • 67 keegan is king // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:42 PM

i aint the one being negative. correct me if im wrong the definition of negative is Gloomy; pessimistic: Unfavorable or detrimental not once have i been any of them, i do believethat would be you

  • 68 The Entertainers // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:45 PM

    Another point :

We can sell Milner for 9 mil’ and buy a replacement of equal quality or better for similar money, but surely the wages would be more than what Milners on.

Would it not be cheaper if they gave Milner a 5-10 k p/w wages rise?

I doubt this would happen as Ashley does appear quite stubborn.

  • 69 JP...from The Rock of Gibraltar! // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:46 PM

Just when we get a player full of skill and work-rate in Jonas Gutierrez we are going to sell one of our most consistent players in Milner!! One step forward three steps back that’s for sure!! WTF are the board doing? Sign Milner and Owen long term NOW damn it!! Besides we don’t have enough time to find a replacement and I we already have a small squad why make it smaller? Force Aston Villa to an incredible offer and if that doesn’t happen then Milner will have to play out the remaining 4 years of his contract :)
At worst we do a Christiano on him :D

  • 70 neeraj // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:49 PM

    daiv newcastle’s rejected bids

    modric- 20mill
    aimar- 7 mill
    arda turan- 9 mill

and we broke our transfer record for the defender
    coloccini

its simple club is sending message, this is not a big pot of gold, where u can come and have a swim……………..

  • 73 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:49 PM

The last day of the last year’s transfer window we have signed Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye which is not bad. To have a good squad, you can’t just look into signings or the number of signings. But just wait and see!

I doubt that we are going to sign none though.

  • 74 Neville Brewis // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:51 PM

Can’t wait to get rid of the Cockney mercenary running my club who is conning is all. The club is run from London and Wise’s home in Bucks. A disgrace. its only a matter of time til KK walks. hes doing a great job with both hands tied behind his back. Sell up now MA and put us out of our misery sooner rather than later.

  • 76 keegan is king // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:52 PM

  • 77 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:52 PM

Well, what I mean was that let’s see what KK’s doing and not just the number of signings.
Then… we gotta be patient till the end of the window and give MA a better judgement!

  • 78 beyethegreat // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:53 PM

entertainers apparentley he was wanting 55 k a week which unless i am mistaken that is an extra 20 k and he says he wants his wages too match his development in all honesty i dont think he has progressed that much i mean 2 assists last year was what a few people were saying i think we could do better

  • 82 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:55 PM

    @neeraj
We are still not sure if we’ve gone for Modric.

but what you have said is that MA is willing to pay 20m for a player, right? That doesn’t show the limit of money we are going to spend. KK wants player, but he wants the right players. Therefore, let’s wait and see!!!

  • 83 daiv // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:56 PM

    Neeaj
How do you KNOW the club bid for these players?
Read it in the Sun? I have never heard KK or the club claim that they bid for these players. But because it seems positive press, we can believe it but discount the negative stuff? We cannot pick and choose what we want to believe in the press. I only believe what the club tells me. The are saying f*** all as usual

  • 90 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:00 PM

    @daiv
let’s hold on to our comments, wait till the Arsenal’s match is done first and then the end of the transfer window! I know you’ve been frustrated. Mate, just wait for a few more days! Then we can have a better judgement.

  • 91 t-g-w // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:00 PM

Looking at the poitics of our club, appointing KK was seemingly a wise (no pun) move for Ashley, but also one that will come back to bite him in his rather large behind. He gave the fans what they wanted, but now he has weakened his own position because if the fans had to choose between KK or Ashely, 99% of them would choose KK.

I just think KK’s appointment could be the downfall of Ashely unless he gives KKK what he wants. KK is in a stronger position than Ashely and should be given what he needs (wants) to make this club great again.

  • 100 daiv // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:05 PM

Can’t believe the tolerance of people on this blog. Such as “lets wait and see if we have signed three top players by Sunday.” Or ..”its no great loss if we sell Milner.” Well it is actually because we are signing nobody. Smell the coffee. MA has a history by now of keeping his hands in his pocket. Wake up!!! Well wake up on Monday but its too late by then… not that we can do anything about it now. We are snookered!!!! A polite way of using the f word!! MA drives me to despair.

  • 101 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:06 PM

    @The Entertainers
    Just a joke, mate.

Do you really think Arda Turan can come if we have the money after Gala’s gone trashed? I am not sure if he’s what we need for now, but it’s not a bad move because we could push Zoggy to be one of the forwards so that we will have the new Henry (he’s number 14) playing for us… and you know I am dreaming, right?

Again, let’s wait and see. Cheers mate!

  • 102 Tom_Toon // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:06 PM

  • 108 daiv // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:09 PM

    Another thing…
What the hell are KK and MA doing having a summit meeting three days before the transfer window closes? What options does that give them to bring players in? The whole thing just seems crazy to me. Maybe they have no intention to sign players. If they do, it must be rushed, which is never a good thing. Players should have been bought weeks ago, not a day or hours beore the window closes. It just seems all so amateurish. keep the faith.

  • 110 keegan is king // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:11 PM

or maybe they got a selection of players to choose from and thats what the meeting was about, choosing the best available

  • 111 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:11 PM

    @daiv
it’s not tolerance. It’s the truth that we need to face, mate. Everyone’s sharing the same frustration, but we can’t get lost at this point. When we have limited number of people, our eyes are looking at the youngsters, one by one. Tell me, if Neverton never looked at their youngsters, Would there be Rooney for now? If you have to name more, Walcott, Downing, etc… I don’t know how many, but our farm has been producing good products as well. There are far more than just one solution of spending money.

Besides, result speaks, not the number of people.

  • 126 mitch // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:21 PM

Patrick I think we probably have some good youngsters and I would play them as well but we do need some more established players as I am sure you will agree. This has to ne the way forward as all good teams do I think this is where manure have done so well spend 30m on one player and have two academy products or young players costing a couple of million

  • 139 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:28 PM

@mitch, I agree. I think we need more established players. What I wanna say is that not to get too frustrated when we don’t see 4 million-signings coming to play for us because we do have the youngsters.

At this point, attracting a 30m player is a dream, but we have done good business like Coloccini, Guthrie and Jonas. Just a reminder, Guthrie is a youngster but he is already playing like Rob Lee.

    Daiv

    Behind you all the way

Sick of people saying Cashley has done this Cashley has done that Blaa Blaa Blaa

A few facts for those people….
Cashley hasnt paid off all the debts, there is still a sizeable slice of debt there……….
Did Cashley really bid 16M for Mdoric?? We only have the clubs word for that.

we didnt pay 10 m for Colo…this will eventually be the total fee with add-ons…..We dint actually factually know the fee for him, Guthrie or Jonas… My guess is he has only spent 10 m Max

He is nt selling tickets FACT…so yes “We’ll make a WOW signing” ….Its a joke, oldest trick in the book….FAT FREDS FAVOURITE….oh no 9 times out of 10 he used to actually keep his promise……

The club was on the brink of admin??? Ha ha ha ….Please……..if every fan stopped going to the match, the club still has many many assets to pull itself out of the dooo, yes it would eventually go …but like a “deck of Cards” Pull the other one Cashley it has spare change in and rattles…………..

Cashley will not spend big on the team, he will only spend on the fixed assets…watch for ground extensions, purchasing of land…..he will want to make the club look attractive to future buyers thats all…………

If i am wrong I will be chuffed to bits, if i am right….yip you’ve got it….realism!!!

    Try it

  • 162 Gallowgate31 // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:39 PM

Milner stated he just wanted to play his football !!!!!!!!!!!!

was he then not the most consistent player the last two years for us and in the england u 21’s…………

    something like 80 games….

What he should of said was ‘ I wanna earn even more easy money, just like MO and Smithy do’.

Very disappointed with this lad, thought his head was screwed on right.

  • 163 Patrick // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:40 PM

    @Kevin
It’s raising up questions like how come the youngsters are greedy.
Are we willing to try Jon Parkin? Play him like Viduka!

I still can’t forget the picture of our lads trying out the purple jersey… Mark Viduka had a chubby tummy.

  • 164 keegan is king // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:42 PM

  • 167 Faustino // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:44 PM

Angryman…thpough you are an essential part of the furniture here imo. I have to point out that the statement regarding our ‘assets’ is utter nads.

Not a single thing that the club owned prior to the Ashley takeover was owned outright and was infact subject to immense financing. Inlcuding the stadium. a ‘house of cards’ effect would have occured similar to Maxwell era Mirror group and the Barings bank collapse.

Exisitng on a whisp of finance tht even a fat fairy couldn’t have put right.

  • 168 Kaizer Soze // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:45 PM

Uncomfortable with the vibes on here and coming from the club!
I Think KK is being gagged, and would be surprised if we get more than one player in before transfer window shut!!
Come on Men get your thumbs out.IMO we need 3 or 4!!
It si looking more and more that we have been fed verbals from Mr Ashley’s crowd to keep us quiet…….
I am reckoning that the thing will be …”we tried for three or four players but it didnt come off, some you get some you dont, we’ll try again in January”.

    Just My Opinion folks.

  • 169 beyethegreat // Aug 27, 2008 at 8:46 PM

  • 204 Ross // Aug 27, 2008 at 9:09 PM

i cant be bothered with today at all, haha.
the way im looking at it now is

if milner wants to go, wants more money, isnt happy, whatever, then sell him. i want players who are gagging to wear the black and white steping out for us week in week out, not a player who’ll work his socks off when he knows a potential buyer is in the stands.

signings, who knows. whatever happens in the next 5 days happens. its pointless listening to rumours or anything else, because this is the time in the window where the media literally will say anything regarding us. i wouldnt be shocked if i read on sunday that we’re planning a last minute 85 million bid for kaka as a “wow” signing (that some people on here seem to desperatly want?..talent in youth is what we need, not a shirt seller!)

  • 205 wigaz // Aug 27, 2008 at 9:10 PM

There seems to be a lot of negativity on here tonights lads – especially Daiv.

Daiv, ive looked on Yell.com and the samaritans are on 0191 2327272. Good luck fella

Lets wait and see what Monday brings. We may be suprised aon way or the other, but Ashley must know what is needed.

We can only afford to let Milner go if a suitable (better) replacement is is brought in. We do have some cracking midfielders in my opinion and only need another 1 to make it a top 6-7 midfield. I would love to see Arda afetr Gala went out.

Arda – Zog (best position for me) – Guthrie – Jonas. This with Butt and the young’uns as cover.

What concerns me most is the injuries to our strikers. What wasn’t a major issue a couple of weeks ago is now a desparate situation. Owen is as good as me up front alone and Shola couldn’t trap wind. With Oba, Viduka & Caroll out for at least the next month maybe a loan striker signing is now top priority. Saviola anyone – not ideal as he’s a midget but its better than nothing

  • 248 simon376 // Aug 27, 2008 at 10:10 PM

Maybe i’m missing something here and yes I know we do need more quality, but did we not sign gutti as a winger? One of the up and coming kids (Lua Lua) could be the back up. Milners done ok here but we need somebody who can cross and take corners and he can’t.

We do need new players and quick, but need them in other postions. If we can get £9-£10 million, lets use the cash for the other postions.

And lets get off Ashleys back. We don’t have much to offer players right now, no Europe, poor couple of seasons and as much as I love Newcastle (Centre of the Universe) can’t offer the bright ligts big city of London that a lot of the players seem to want. The press have always been out to get Newcastle and their players/managers/board. I mentioned it on an eralier post that I or my family have experinced the bad press and lies against the club. I think Ashley has put us in a good postion being almost debt free. We have bought 4 good players using good business and not spending masive amounts like in the past. Things were never going to happen over night. And I know its not long to get more in, but lets keep the ‘half full glass’ attitude and keep the faith.

One season I always remember was the one when we almost got relegated to the old 3rd division. The fans were singing we’ll suport you in the 4th. Lets stay as the 12th man, get behind the club (as we always do) and that includes the owner, manager and players and I’m sure things will work out.
