Despite no official confirmation from the club, just for a change, rumour has it that Kevin Keegan was sacked today.

If it turns out to be true, i would like to say in advance ... i think Ashley is a disgrace, a lier, a beer swilling, tight fisted wan**r and i hope his c*ck falls off in Dennis wise's mouth!!!!

Ian -- I agree that a decent striker needs to be brought in. I do not like starting a season depending on the fitness of Owen & Martins (I'm not even going to try depending on Viduka's). Martins is hurt now, and Owen is just back. The primary options are very good upfront, but there is just NO cover.

In fact, I think that's symptomatic of Newcastle's entire squad. The starting line-up (all fit) is pretty solid -- but the issue of cover is very serious. There is no proper cover for either fullback. The central midfield has the same problem, as does up front. Wing has options: Milner, Gutierrez, Duff, N'Zogbia, Geremi. Goal has a great option. CB has Bassong and Cacapa for cover at least. What's needed, imo, is cover for RB, LB, CM, and a striker. But I don't think four players will join this late. Maybe two.

Perhaps people should be pointing the finger at Milner instead of the club, after all he's the one that's put in a transfer request because the club won't give in to is wage demands.

Ian (Shepherd) Again - you refer to assumptions you have no idea about and grab from thin air as if you had spoken at length with all those concerned - but always from the negative - to assess someones objectivity you have to rationalise their thoughts. Yours I cant end of.

Stardust (Ashley) you should be in politics.

I do not think KK would say on TV he isnt involved if he was, even though he is supposed to have the last say on every signing according to the board.

If those statements are wrong then we are wrong.

That said if KK was in control I wouldnt think that there was a need for a meeting with MA.

Why the assumption that Owen "wants out in January" from people? Owen has said (repeatedly) that he likes playing for Newcastle and wants to sort out a new contract -- though he admitted this takes time. Keegan has said (repeatedly) that Owen "really likes it here" and wants to stay, that "we all want him to stay" and that things are probably close to being sorted.

As much of a mess as it looks from the outside, none of us know what is actually going on. The more credible rumours I have heard is that the issue with Owen's contract isn't even wages (for those saying he is a greedy so-and-so, rumour includes that it is a wage cut, but a big bonus package that could make him more money based on appearances and goals) but rather the length of contract. If Owen (as rumours state) is looking for a 5 yr contract at Newcastle, hoping to essentially finish his career at the club, it seems rather ungracious to be slagging him off, doesn't it? Ashley prefers a 3 yr contract.

I ask again, why does it not occur to anyone else that Owen's illness altered the plans for summer contract negotiations? The man was hospitalised for several days, and spent further time still quite poorly. How gracious of the club to go knocking on his door at that point wanting to discuss a new contract. More likely, negotiations opening in late June was to do with his illness -- and extensive (and expensive) contracts like Owen's are not likely to be a one-day meeting, are they?

Dick - What was that about? We went from Lee Clarke driving forward to Batty fannying about. Mind having the worst keeper on the planet in the form of Pavel didn't really help.
Some Toon fans still seem to think he was good.....what?. He cost us about 12 points that season through idiot blunders alone

Ian - I cant comment when I dont know how involved or univolved he has been - nor do I know Keegans real opinions - neither does anyone else as what is said for the camera can be for the benefit of the camera and to serve other motives.

Its an impossible question to answer without been railroaded.

DH7 - Batty was crap. His arrival destroyed our team in 96'. I could never undertand why Tino got the blame when Batty refused to pass the ball forward. Keegan's worst move ever. (sorry off the subject a bit, but Batty was a disaster)

Stardust - ashley, players want out and no-one that is any good wants in, we would call that a problem. Nzogbia, Owen looks like he wants out in January and now Milner.

Keegan attracted good players last time, maybe if he had been more involved.....

You disagree?
