In fact, I think that’s symptomatic of Newcastle’s entire squad. The starting line-up (all fit) is pretty solid — but the issue of cover is very serious. There is no proper cover for either fullback. The central midfield has the same problem, as does up front. Wing has options: Milner, Gutierrez, Duff, N’Zogbia, Geremi. Goal has a great option. CB has Bassong and Cacapa for cover at least. What’s needed, imo, is cover for RB, LB, CM, and a striker. But I don’t think four players will join this late. Maybe two.

I am still expecting a decent striker before mon night, otherwise Owen signed up or not we are in bother.

I do not think KK would say on TV he isnt involved if he was, even though he is supposed to have the last say on every signing according to the board.

If those statements are wrong then we are wrong.

That said if KK was in control I wouldnt think that there was a need for a meeting with MA.

As much of a mess as it looks from the outside, none of us know what is actually going on. The more credible rumours I have heard is that the issue with Owen’s contract isn’t even wages (for those saying he is a greedy so-and-so, rumour includes that it is a wage cut, but a big bonus package that could make him more money based on appearances and goals) but rather the length of contract. If Owen (as rumours state) is looking for a 5 yr contract at Newcastle, hoping to essentially finish his career at the club, it seems rather ungracious to be slagging him off, doesn’t it? Ashley prefers a 3 yr contract.

I ask again, why does it not occur to anyone else that Owen’s illness altered the plans for summer contract negotiations? The man was hospitalised for several days, and spent further time still quite poorly. How gracious of the club to go knocking on his door at that point wanting to discuss a new contract. More likely, negotiations opening in late June was to do with his illness — and extensive (and expensive) contracts like Owen’s are not likely to be a one-day meeting, are they?

Its an impossible question to answer without been railroaded.

Keegan attracted good players last time, maybe if he had been more involved…..
