We were linked with Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda a few days ago, and we wonder if things are starting to open up for Newcastle to really bring him to Tyneside.
Florent Malouda - now available to move?
One of the conditions that Malouda would be made available was that Brazilian star Robinho would be signed by The Blues from Real Madrid.
And there is news today that Robinho is indeed set to complete a move from Real Madrid to Chelsea, in a deal worth £28.4M, that is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, according to reports.
Official confirmation of the signing could be made later today, with chief executive Peter Kenyon saying today:
“We are ever confident that it will get done, but we have always said it will go to the wire.”
“There were two players Luiz Felipe Scolari identified. One was Deco and one was Robinho. And we have already seen the impact Deco has made on the Premier League.”
“I think the squad is strong and capable of competing in all competitions without Robinho – but with him, it is an added dimension.”
That’s an awful lot of money for just one player, but you cannot accuse Chelsea or Roman Abramovich of not dishing out the big money, when they are after a player they really want.
Apparently the deal is further complicated because Real Madrid are trying to sign David Villa, the Valencia striker, as a replacement for the Brazilian forward.
But news that Real Madrid last night offered £35M for Villa, so things could be moving soon, and at the tail end of the moves, we expect Chelsea to allow Malouda to move on.
So we suppose if Newcastle are really interested in Malouda, now would be a good time to put in a decent bid.
Our feeling is that while he’s a good player we think for £12M we could quite possibly bring in a couple of lesser known players, but just as good as Malouda.
We may be wrong about that, and time is certainly running our now, but certainly the four players we do have are all first class signings. We just haven’t made enough of them, that’s the only problem.
The 28 year old Frenchman is a good player and very experienced, having represented France 42 times and played for Châteauroux, Guingamp and Lyon, before moving to Chelsea in 2007 for around £15M.
Comments welcome.
Here is Ed’s NOTW review of the win against Coventry City on Tuesday evening.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Malouda has been shockingly bad for Chelsea since he joined.
He even admitted that he doesn’t suit the premier leauge and hates the physicality of it.
Just paper BS IMO.

Tom - Toon,
Agree with your comments, we do not want another Chelski REJECT.
3 Stelios // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:26
too lightweight…over-paid and getting on a bit. Off topic but Ever Banega just signed for athetico on year loan. Just the type of player we needed
4 Ian // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:27
We should try and get Matt Derbyshire as a striker, he can cover in midfield too.
Unfortunately he scored two goals last night so they probably wont let go of him.

why sell milner, by someone older and on higher wages for more money? and one thats been a flop in england to boot. makes no sense
6 REM // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:29
Chelsea reject is still better than our crop. I hate when people say that. Our best player, owen is a liverpool “reject”. the guy who set him up against bolton was a chelseas “reject”.

SWP back to ManC.
Come on Nero (aka MA) stop fiddling and start buying.

i still am clinging on to the hope of nikola zigic! how about marek hamsik for dm, juan mata for am, and diaby to play anywhere along midfield (especially since we’re letting milner go)

“That’s an awful lot of money for just one player, but you cannot accuse Chelsea or Roman Abramovich of not dishing out the big money, when they are after a player they really want.”
Spending big on players you want is one thing, using your oodles of cash to fund your play thing despite the massive looses every year is another.
If Chelsea don’t win the Champs league and Prem league over the next couple of years, Roman will be off, and calling in his debts at the same time!
As for Malouda - overrated, overpaid, under performing clap trap. Just like Smith & Duff
15 Spyro // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:35
i have seen him hold his own on the wings plenty of times
16 Luke // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:36
Too lightweight, too big an ego, too old, too expensive. But you never know. Ginola was no spring chicken when we bought him.
17 Tom_Toon // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:36
I think I’d rather have Scott Sinclair from Chelsea for a 1/6 of the price of Malouda!
18 Tom // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:37
I’ll pass on Malouda thanks.
19 Spyro // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:39

20 Neil Snowdon // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:39
Dear Ed,
Our signings have had three things in common : quality, pace and heart.
Malouda may have quality, although we have seen little of it recently. He may be faster than me! But does he have the heart for the fray? Negative imo. Over priced as well. Daily Mail story a few days back may have had some truth in it, especially as we know Milner’s request was put in over a week ago. I hope we will not be panicked into buying him with the Milner proceeds.
Regards,
Neil
21 Spyro // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:40
they clearly see him as one for the future
22 Kurt // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:41
I don’t think the club will sign any player. Have no faith in the club signing up some player with just days remaining. Tough I don’t rate Milner mush it’s a shame if we sell him considering our small squad.
23 Sniffer // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:42
Malouda is a left winger..we already have Charlie, Duff, and Spiderman what is the point of paying £12-million for a 4th left winger .
Issues with Milner etc are the legacy of poor management and equally poor signings since 2002, must be hard for Milner to understand Duff, Smith, Viduka,Barton etc are on more than double what he is on, Milner is not the person to make a stand against, he is worth extra, make a stand against Barton.
24 Tom_Toon // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:42
Spyro - Why would they just bring Fabio Paim on loan then and loan out Scott Sinclair so much?!?
25 azim // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:42
why on earth we need another left footed player when we already have n’zobgia, duff, and jonas….
we should buy a cm, lb, and cf rather and lw is NOT IMPORTANT AT ALL NOW
26 Luke // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:42
I’d rather Jerry McQuim from Curmudgeon Cobblers for 160th the price.
Seriously though, Chelsea have a habit of stalling the careers of excellent players; Crespo, Shevchenko, Parker, Duff, Wright-Philips ad infinitum… and let’s not forget the milieu of youth players that ‘never make te grade’. I pray to Mecca every day that Abramovich pulls out. Them and the mackems, boro, spuds, villa and liverthieves.

28 Tom_Toon // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:44
Luke - You really are an immature tit.
Azim - Jonas is right-footed.
29 Spyro // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:45
they want him to get first team experience and see if he has what it takes, if he does they will keep him, if they dont then they will flog him. I think he has what it takes and they will probably see this too. Loaning out doesn’t mean they dont want him if that is what you are suggesting.
Concerning Paim, since when did Chelsea ever want one quality player in each position?
30 David Dutch // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:47
I think we can all put away of dreams until January and accept that MA will not give another penny to KK to buy new players. He is determined to cut the cloth to affordability whether we fans like it or not and with Milner going out the door we really have adepleted and injury prone squad. At this rate mid table would be an accomplishment it is so easy to get carried away on the back of a couple of results which lets face it was against a below par Manure Utd, lack of imagination Bolton and a Championship side, unfortunately Arsenakl appear to have started to get their game together so the real test will come on Saturday, too late to anything.
So let us get 150% behind the lads who want to play for the toon and see if we can make SJP a fortress it used to be .
31 azim // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:47
Tom_Toon he is a two footed player and I admit that his best position is rw but he is doing wonderful job at left
32 JaY-TNK // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:49
Hope we sign Arda Turan instead of this guy….arda is class
33 35yrsofhurt // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:49
REM - Owen was not a reject at Liverpool as he exercised his right to leave, had he stayed he would have been guaranteed a place in their side.
The same thing cannot be said of Duff and Geremi who were surplus to requirements thus Chelski rejects.
34 Tom_Toon // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:49
Spyro - Sinclair, Robinho, Malouda, Joe Cole, Paim, Kalou.
Not just one is it. They can hardly think much of Sinclair.

1)Arshavin
2)Warnock
3)either huntaleer (dream) or dare i say it more realistic, Heskey or Kevin Davies. Cheap & would do the trick. Would love to see henrik here but i think he’ll either go to Man U as he was there before or Villa with o’neill.
36 kenny g // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:50
SPYRO, Malouda is waif, man… when the man himself suggests he cant handle the physicality of the premier league it probably means he doesn’t have the cahunas.
Not that we are ever gonna buy him anyway, so really this is all just pointless conjecture, whihc I continue to read and contribute to… hmmmm
37 Geordie Nick // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:50

38 ToonKing // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:50
i say swap Milner+some cash for Xabi Alonso, that seems a good deal for both parties.
39 Danish_Magpie // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:51
No to Malouda. He just isn’t for us. He has the qualities but would not be motivated to move to Newcastle and would not perform for us. Focus on hungry, ambitious players who would come to strengthen us.
Stephen Appiah is available on a free transfer. I think we should sign him up, as he has been quality when I’ve seen him. He has bite, good passing, physical presence, and tackles well. Pretty complete central midfield player in my opinion. On free, surely he is worth at least a 1-year deal with an option for 2 more for example.
40 Tom_Toon // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:53
Danish - I Think Appiah is holding out for a move back to Juve.
41 ToonKing // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:53

42 SuperShearer // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:56
He’s the last thing we need right now. Even with Duff injured we have to if not three left midfielders in Zog, Jonas, and Milner so why splash the cash on Malouda? We need a striker, LB, and AM with maybe a DM if there is a good one available otherwise that can wait. Oh and the small matter of retaining our current crop of players before worrying about players of Malouda’s age an underachiever in the Premiership.
43 Spyro // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:56

46 SteveM // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:58
It’s one of the principles of any negotiation to hang on until last minute. If the sellers valuation does not meet the buyers valuation then the final clincher is the walk away. It’s been very slow business in the Transfer Market this summer but with the credit crunch some clubs will need to sell - and with the clock ticking I would expect to see a lot of last minute deals throughout the premiership. I expect Newcastle are keeping their cards very close to their chest and looking at multiple targets - and I expect them to make a number of take it or leave it offers soon. Offers that do not give the selling club much time to see if they can bid up interest in the player form another club. I’m sure it would be totally faninating to see this cgame of poker being played out but at least I know that its suicidal to show your hand before the tie is right - FFS had other ideas of course - blather on to the media day and night and sign blank cheques away to bring in WOW “luque” signings.
47 Geordio Cubano // Aug 28, 2008 at 17:58
Can’t imagine Malouda is our real Chelski target, it doesn’t add up, though I wouldn’t be surprised if we ARE negotiating with Chelsea for someone else and the press has gotten the wrong end of the stick, as they often do, and attributed our interest to Malouda… let me consult my ITK crystal ball:
…oooh, very good…
Joe Cole! Come on doon son…

50 Luke // Aug 28, 2008 at 18:01
Crikey moses. Poor old (young) TomTit can’t take a joke. I say part exchange Smith for Berbatov and a few million.
Chelsea loaned out Johnson at a time when they were playing Geremi, Bouhlarouz (sp?) and Ferreira in his position. They need some equity management je crois.
I’m off for a parisien ruby murray. Bon ap!
51 Lew Davies // Aug 28, 2008 at 18:01
Oh yes! this would just be the icing on the cake after this week.
Malouda is a typical Toon signing under Fat Freddy Shitturd.
PLEASE PLEASE dont go down the chelski reject route AGAIN.
I see Duff is out till end sept. For gods sake he only got a bang on the knee. What a pussy!
Malouda will be no better, attitude wise.

Tom_Toon,
Yeah he is. I read an interview with his agent who said that he wanted to go back to Juve. If they don’t move for him though, we should bid at the last minute. Sign him up for a year at least, he could be quality.
59 Mick G // Aug 28, 2008 at 18:13

63 NUFCFAN // Aug 28, 2008 at 18:19
when you compare Malouda to Jonas it pretty much says it all.
1, just comparing the two together, i cant think of anything that Malouda beats him ability at - apart from delivery maybe
2, the scouting team have the ability to find better
3, can find a better alternative for cheaper than 12 mill.
looking at the debate with Spyro and Tom Toon, i dont think that Sinclair would be a bad option, bursts of pace a la Dyer/Walcott, and mould him into the player that we would want (plus might replace the young englishman that milner is)

ah crap. SWP joins Man City. Malouda is crap.
I prefer Newcastle to go and get some nice youngsters like Miguel Veloso and Joao Moutinho than spending big bucks on one aging winger who cant even score over 5 goals a season in the best club.
$12m = $10 for Veloso and $2 to get a good leftback like Warnock or Wome.

Selling Milner for 9 m il is good business. Our problenm is that we cannot attract enough players. The squad is far too thin. We need bums on seats even if they are average players. We buy one and sell or get rid of two. I suppose MA wants a team of 6 to play in the Prem. He is ruining the club. Do not expect any top signings in the next few days. Than all you patience people can lit rip as well.
88 d hamilton // Aug 28, 2008 at 18:52
My view of robinho going to chelsea with villa going to madrid would free up Saviola for us to sign. Just my opinion but that sounds a better prospect than Malouda. I’ve watched him for France and Chelsea and since he’s moved to Chelsea he’s went down hill. Looked canny before he joined them but I would still stay well clear.

Forget Malouda lads ‘IF’ he goes anywhere his agent will ressurect his deal with Roma. I think he knows that he would be more successful in Italy than he has been in The Premiership. Although he shows glimpses of his talent he is not consistant enough. I think KK would have been better off going for SWP who would have given you a true wide outlet to support the likes of Owen and Martins.

. I think we are gonna have to be prepared to wait until monday night,. Honestly there HAS to be developments.. no one at the club is stupid enough to think we don’t need signings.. cost cutting or not.. If we don’t build a team to get into europe this year we never will.
I’m sure we all think signing a player consists of a simple fax with 10 million on it ,and telling the new guy “fifty grand a week mate” sorted!
I suppose it’s harder than that.
MA will know the support/crowd situation won’t improve without investment in the team.
I’m srue there is furious bid making in the background.
and annoying as it is,. patience is a vertue

Zayatte poised for Newcastle move
His agent may have claimed only yesterday that he’d be moving to Everton but Sky Sports News are reporting that Guinean defender Kamil Zayatte will sign for Newcastle United.
The 23 year-old had a trial at Finch Farm this week and seemed to set to join the Blues but Young Boys of Berne may have received a better offer from St James’ Park than the £2.5m reportedly offered by Everton.

Stop being hysterical BraveNewToon. Fingers crossed we can have adecent year, and BUILD on that next summer. It doesn’t happen with the wave of a magic financial wand as we have seen in the past. Everton are the perfect example and now they even seem to lack the financial power to push on.

Geremi and duff prove that chelsea dont sell good player.
getting worried as we still need alot of player
Keegan said 3 need and since then we have sold Faye and if Milner goes 5 are needed.
LB - Warnock

CAM - dont think we could sign a good one at the mo
Rm - ?? (if milner leaves)
CF - Huntelarr

Gk: Shay

teddy,. if i was huntalaar, arda or drenthe.. yes i would move to te toon thanks.
I’m not saying we wouldn’t get by.. i think our first eleven will certainly challage for top six. but we haven’t got enough quality behind that. we WILL pick up a lot of injury’s and suspensions, the squad at the moment can’t cope with these and maintain a challange.
we can build slowly but need to be in europe to attract the players we need..
look at everton?! true look at everton, good year last year but still can’t improve.
Anyway i was actually being positive.. and simply saying,.. don’t worry the signings will arrive, and they will.. because everyone at the club that matters,.. knows we need them

sorry brave new toon im jst thinking were settin sights to high, i jst think if we buy more quality say in arda, nzogbia will want out coz hes knocked back one more in pecking order. players like guthrie who dnt mind bench time, young, quality, cheap is jst wat we need. same with bassong i would love to get a younger target man upfront simply becuase they can onyl get better in the future, less injury prone and wont mind sitting ont he bench when oba owen and duke are fit.

Luke I hardly heard the announcement on Sky Sports because I was in a room full of gob shite(s) but that’s probably the announcement I wanted to hear! - Mauro Zarate.
I am sure I heard it but obviously not! Oh well.. plenty of time left.
This player will be a bargain buy I think. He is probably someone the club has been looking at a long time and what’s 2.5 or 3 million? Nothing really!
131 ToonEskimo // Aug 28, 2008 at 19:29
Rooney has gone backwards imo, Coleen obviously can’t cook as he looks like he’s been living on takeaway’s for months’, makes the Duke look like Peter Crouch.
132 Brave New Toon // Aug 28, 2008 at 19:29
Mate i’m the biigest advoget of OUR players, and truely believe that the likes of Taylor, Danny G, zog, enrique, milner, Oba, Mo, Colo, can seriously challange,.. and wouldn’t swap any of those for anyone in the league.. i’d replace duke.. but with a youngster.. cos dukie is only a bit part player anyway!
but we are short on numbers,
And the Milner Saga has knocked the stuffing out of me really (If Arda would come though.. it would be a fair replacement!)

Ok lets go thru our positions and see who we can squeeze in and who fits where…
In Order
GK - Given/Harper/Krul/Forster - Great
LB - Enrique/Bassong/Zog/Colo - Good enough
RB - Beye/Zayatte/Geremi/Edgar - Good
CB - Taylor/ Colo/ Bassong/ Zayatte/Cacapa/Edgar - Good enough
RM - Jonas/Geremi/Lua Lua - Average
LM - Zog/Jonas/Duff - Good enough
CM - Butt/Barton/Guthrie/Smith - Average
STRIKE - Owen/Martins/Duke/Smith/Strolla - Injury Prone
With Kamil Zayatte we’re set at da back….
We need a creative mid badly… our center is filled with one dimensional players. We could all do with Skjelbred as he loves us and he will be able to cover a few positions OR get that WOW signing! =p
We need a freakin forward as well. A tall imposing one. Derdiyok comes to mind as he wouldnt mind sittin on da bench for some games… We cant afford to get the huntelaars n henrys coz when all are fit we r gonna hav one unhappy team….

I think Teddy is talking some sense here, we are obviously targeting cut-price quality, and also people with the right kind of attitude, imo I can see us landing a potential “Santa Cruz” type player for some competiton up front, as I doubt KK can see any of our strikers playing more than 30 games this season. I predict a goal machine arriving in the next couple of days.

I agree we need a left back, as right back can be covered by either geremi or Coloccini, or even this kid if we get him.
I would love a striker, i still have my heart set on Bafetimbi Gomis or Gomez (not too fust on him to be honest).
However, a creative CENTRAL midfielder is needed as although we play most of our game down the wings, we lack cutting edge in the the middle.
Anyways….

Let me give you some insight on MA, Aparently he has earnt 2 billion in selling some of his brands. However, that money is corporate money and is not released without his board of directors concent and although he bought the club with what i think was his personal money i doubt he is willing to keep pumping that into the club. The money he has invested in his company like i said may be a no go area so its irrelevent to say he is a billionaire. as his funds could be locked up in his company or in shares and other financial assets. So in my humble opionion all the funding is coming from where it used to come, the club however, he is steadying the books and im cant see him having put more than 25 m for keegan to spend this summer. In any company you need to steady the books before you invest and expand and start seing a profit being made. The improvement will come and higher investments also but in time. MA isnt a footie man but a businessman he is very healthy for this club but it seems like he isnt the english abramovich we all wished for as he wont splash his personal cash like abramo does. Whatsmore he is no way near as rich like i already mentioned who knows how much personal money he has access too. This is my point of view as a fellow businessman
201 Paulie Walnuts // Aug 28, 2008 at 20:47
Selling the likes of Milner and buying “unknowns” like Zayette is only going to achieve a downward spiral in the league and cause many more empty seats in the stadium. What Ashley is playing at I do not know!
Never mind though, he has until Monday to convince people (and me) that his intentions for the club are genuine. Should he fail, he will unleash a storm of anger upon himself that he could never imagine.. and it will be his own fault.

Leicester have turned down a couple of bids from unnamed premiership clubs for Joe Mattock.
Please let us be in for him, He looked terrific in the U21 games i watched him in and just what we need, Lovely left foot.
Before people point out the fact that we have Tozer, Kadar and Edgar already they are all centre halves who can play at full back.
We need a player to compete with Enrique not replace him, Mattock at 17 is perfect.
