Guthrie – Newcastle Area Fantastic – I’m Settled

If there’s one thing that’s been positive about this summer’s transfer market, it’s that the players Newcastle have brought in so far are all excellent buys.

Danny Guthrie – excellent buy by Kevin in the summer

Danny Guthrie, brought in from Liverpool, probably for around ?2M, has played in every game in pre-season and in the first 3 games proper of this season, and looks made to measure to become a big future star at the club.

There were reports yesterday that Stuart Pearce is thinking about including him in the England Under-21 squad, and that would be just reward for a player who seems to produce the goods week in week out for the Magpies.

Danny said yesterday to nufvTV:

“My debut at Man United was great and we could’ve won it in the end,” “It was nice to hear the manager call me his man-of-the-match afterwards because my main target when I signed was just to be in the team for the first game.”

“It’s went really well for me but now I have to build on that and stay in the team for as long as I can.”

“I’ve loved it so far and I’ve got a house now so I’m settled and the area is fantastic.”

Newcastle now travel to Arsenal for tomorrow’s game, which has a 5:30 pm kick off time, and no doubt Kevin will have the lads ready for that game, despite all the news on James Milner leaving the club, over the last couple of days.

Danny continued:

“Our home form is massive this season,” “If you win your home games you will finish high up the table.”“It’s always a bonus to nick points from the top four but winning at home is what we need to do on a regular basis.”

Danny is great acquisition for the club and a fantastic lad, and he is happy to play at the Newcastle club managed by a former Liverpool (and Newcastle) legend Kevin Keegan.

And we mustn’t forget that the fabulous team spirit Keegan has already generated at the club, is because every single player wants to be at Newcastle and contribute to the success of Keegan’s second revolution.

So in that context, if young James Milner wants to leave for more money, it’s hard to argue why we should keep him.

But we’ll keep Guthrie, for many a season, and while he may not be top notch right now, he’s on the road to being that, sooner rather than later.

It’s great to have young lads like Danny at Newcastle. 😀

Great player, attitude, gets his head down and works hard, could not have asked for more really, especially at his age!

I had a dream last night…and I was seeing ARSHAVIN on the left wing and JONAS on the right wing! Wouldn’t that be our WOW-Signing? 😉

I’ve been impressed with Guthrie so far: nice tidy player, and very busy, but “seems to produce the goods week in week out”? He’s only played THREE competitive games… shouldn’t he have played at least 15 before we start making that sort of judgement?

And while I’d want to keep Milner, if we can get in the region of £10-12m for him, I think we might as well cash in… but only if we can buy some more players before monday night!

Glad to read a more upbeat article from you today Ed – you were SO DOWN yesterday.

Agree young Danny, along with our 3 other signings all have greatly pleased in their performances so far this season.

Let’s hope for more of the same before the transfer window closes. Fingers crossed. x

Arsenal will be tough, as long as we don’t get hammered I won’t mind. No team expects a result against the Top 4 away really.

10 years ago, Guthrie would be given a chance at Anfield and we’d all be saying wish we could get him to Newcastle but we know we have no chance.

Nowdays we get english players like this on the cheap because the top four only want proven foreigners.

It really amuses me that they wanted Barry for all that money when they had a player of Guthrie’s ability for free right under their noses.

Benetiz was a fool for letting him go. KK is a god for bringing him to SJP.

I reckon that Guthrie could be one of the reasons Milner is unhappy with his contract. He probably came in on higher wages than Milner, who’s thinking.. ‘hold on. what has he done for this club that i havn’t…’

Of course Danny’s the biz – he’s a Shrewsbury lad. And judging from his grammar, he’s not from the posh school. If he can avoid letting the success get to him he’ll be here for a long time.

I wish we knew the truth about the Milner thing – for all we know he’s been really badly treated and is right to want out. But perhaps he’s being unreasonable in his demands – who knows?

The thing we have to hold on to is that we’ve made 3 great signings – perhaps four judging by our Frenchie’s performance on Wednesday – and nobody’s seen ’em coming. More to the point, spending 11 mil on a defender shows that Ashley’s prepared to break spending records when needed.

More to come? I’d be surprised if not.

Guthrie is proving to be a good buy, he has got the right attitude and wants to get stuck in.
