Newcastle Get Tottenham At Home In Carling Cup

Carling Cup holders Tottenham are to play Newcastle United away in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup.

That will be a good game but we have to fancy our chances of going through on our current form, but that seems the pick of the 3rd round draw.

Newcastle did the league double over Spurs last season beating them 3-1 at St. James’ Park which turned out to be manager Martin Jol’s last game in charge, and then Kevin’s Keegan’s inspired team took them Spurs apart at White Hart Lane later in the season by 4-1, and it could (should) have been more,

Last season’s runners-up Chelsea will meet FA Cup winners Portsmouth away, while Manchester United face an all-Premier League tie with Middlesbrough.

Sunderland get Northampton at The Stadium Of Light.

Full draw for Carling Cup third round:

Arsenal v Sheff Utd
Brighton or Man City v Derby
Burnley v Fulham
Portsmouth v Chelsea
Blackburn v Everton
Rotherham v Southampton
Swansea v Cardiff
Ipswich v Wigan
Stoke v Reading
Leeds v Hartlepool
Watford v West Ham
Man Utd v Middlesbrough
Liverpool v Crewe
Aston Villa v QPR
Sunderland v Northampton
Newcastle v Tottenham

Aii, I hate the Spuds and would expect the win – home advantage and current form (Hull and West Ham after the Arse) – but I think if they can get their team to start playing as just that, a team, they have a top squad on paper!

For most teams this would be a tough draw, but spuds fans will hate this. We have their number! how many wins in a row against them now?.. 5,6?

    Mackems next please 🙂

I wasn’t quite as thrilled as many here are at this tie, as I think Spurs may be a much improved team this season. Time will tell…

On second thought, however, I think this is perfect. The win at White Hart Lane was the game of last season for me. Big picture thoughts: if we win, great, we stuffed them again. If we lose, particularly because the likes of Modric play well, MA will have to acknowledge that controlling costs needs to be balanced with spending when appropriate. The signings we made are simply inadequate, and I see little indication of us signing anyone we’ve heard of before. While I’m desperately hoping for a win, second best would be getting picked apart by players we could have signed, should have signed, but didn’t sign.

Sorry if that’s negative, but I think this is a tougher draw than it seems, and I think MA needs to reach a little deeper into his pockets (and yes, I know and am grateful for the retired debt, etc.).

Wow, you couldn’t even make this shit up! Haha
I just reckon this season could hinge on an equation of just confidence, which I know sounds typical Mags but just watch this space…I can feel it…. :0
If we can get any kind of result away tonight then we’re on a roll my friends!!!
    1 – 2 to the Toon!!!
