Joey Barton was booed loudly when he was introduced as a Newcastle substitute last night at the Emirates Stadium.
Joey Bartin – will need to get used to the boos
Barton was introduced after 89 minutes of the game and played just 3 minutes at the end, and he was booed every time he touched the ball.
And the match commentators seemed to make it clear they didn’t think he should be playing for Newcastle any more, and not even playing football at all, after his two guilty pleas to assault recently.
Then Barton made a tough challenge on Samir Nasri – and moments later the Frenchman retaliated off-the-ball with a deliberate trip, and eventually had his name taken.
And Newcastle manager Keegan was not happy with Nasri for his reaction:
Keegan said.
“Joey came on, got a good tackle in on Nasri. Then the guy sliced him down,”
“That’s what happened and that’s what I saw, which is what I was upset about.”“I like Nasri very much – he’s a player we looked at for a possible signing but you can’t do that.” “If it had been the other way round, I wonder what the reaction would be.”
“I know the referee didn’t see it but the linesman did and it should have been a red card.” “I will tell Arsene Wenger the same thing when I see him. It wasn’t a reckless tackle – it was a good tackle.”
“We want to see the good players play, but we want to see good tackles as well.” “Joey has done nothing wrong. I’m concerned about my team, not individual players.”
“We came up against a side who had to bounce back from a poor result [at Fulham],” “We needed a break, which we did not get.”
“Like when Nicky Butt’s header hit the bar, but there is no denying they are an excellent side and will finish in the top four – the only thing they are fighting for is where they will finish.”
Kevin will need to get used to the negative reaction of most football fans to Jory Barton because most of them regard Barton as a thug who should have been thrown out of football.
Those are some of the consequences you get when you do things that are not only bad, but illegal.
That’s the way it is, and Joey will be a target of other players and even referees, never mind the fans.
Comments welcome.

Comment #4Good to see him back but he’s gonna have to get used to the boos and sledging from the opposition.
Also he’s gonna have to watch himself on the pitch as he will be picked on and probably gonna get a few red cards this season if his 3 minutes on the pitch is anything to go by.
Remeber Beckham was blamed after the world cup for his sending off against the Argentinians and was bood for quite a while into the new season but he played through it and became a stronger person because of it IMO.

Comment #5I am saying what he did wasnt wrong. it was very wrong.
I know he is meant to be a role model but i am willing to bet that the vast majority of toon fans have a friend who has been in a fight or started on someone and even done worse than joey barton, and they even brag about it and laugh about it with their mates.
I think he has been punished more than most people have and would have been.
He has admitted he has a problem and is seeking help.
Everyone should jsut back off him. You would think we were all infallable and saint like. FFS

Comment #23I cannot let this rest.
I have had enough to say about Barton and what he did off the field but I think enough is enough. Unless he steps out of line again he should be left to get on with his life. His tackle today was hard but fair and afterwards he was smiling which apparantly has not gone down very well in some quarters. He cannot win can he. If he snarls everybody gets on his back and now he cannot smile without negative comments.

Comment #25Barton at the end of the day has done wrong and has been punished, hopefull he can now grab this oportunity with both hands and fulfill his potential.
I notice these commintators ect will rant about him though to the high heavens, althought they treat nobhead Keane like a god (who attemted and succeded in ending a mans career because he was called a diver).

Comment #28Yeah bailey, it has gotten way out of hand, comments by people saying he should be hung, shot ect are just silly and people need to think about what they are saying first.
He had a fight and got locked up for it (yes he was unlucky he is a recognisable figure and was caught on camera). However that is behind him now, he has served prison time and been punished now let him get on with his life.

Comment #29People in England make a big deal out of Barton because they hate the club and the people of Tyneside. Setanta and Sky will always spread vitriolic poison about us because like everybody else, they hate us too. Oh and Nick C, you are a dog, nobody in Newcastle has any place supporting England. For everybody outside of Tyneside who has good words for us, there’s probably about a hundred more mutterring “Geordie scum” under their breathe, if they’re even subtle about it. Now, I appreciate and understand that you’re not very smart, but you have people like me to explain it to you, so there’s nothing to worry about.

Comment #33The lad went to prison. I’d call that punishment enough. I’m one who said he should be thrown out of our club, but now he’s back our team needs him to step up and I think he’s gonna have the Bowyer effect, every time he makes a tackle it will be a foul.
I’m sure he’ll work on it. If he doesn’t improve his attitude I’ll be outside St. James protesting, but until then leave him alone, he’s got enough to worry about without our lads giving him a hard time.
He’s been training with our lot for a while know so they must have come to terms with it and accept him. Nasri is a spiteful get and truly should have been sent off.
Haway Joey, show us some self-control and we’ll back you to the end. Our club has traditionally been one of acceptance. On the field it should be left to the football.
If he steps out of line though, he’s gone. Keegan’s backing him, anyone who comes out against Joey is coming out against Keegans judgement and those are idiots. Keegan is a man of excellent judgement and surely he will be able to sort Joey out, if he can’t no-one will fancy it and his career will be over. Brave of KK to back him the way he has.
Barton and Guthrie in the middle next game!
