Spanish club Valencia have announced today that a deal has been agreed that will send their Uruguay international midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez to Newcastle United on loan for the coming season.
Ignacio Gonzalez - one year loan at Newcastle reported
The 26-year-old only just signed for the Spanish side in the summer, after being on loan at Monaco, but is seems strange he may already be surplus to requirements. He played for Daniubo since 2002 and played 178 games for them over six seasons, scoring 45 goals.
Vice-President Fernando Gomez said today:
“We have many players who can play in midfield and this is an excellent solution for both sides,”“We expect the formalities to be completed on Monday morning.”
This is a good signing for Newcastle, as we need more players in central midfield, and the reports we have received from our readers suggest that Gonzalez is a skilled and strong playmaker in midfield.
But Ignacio unfortunately will be away on World Cup duty for Uruguay in their South American World Cup qualifiers for almost two weeks.
Uruguay play Colombia and Ecuador on September 6th and 10th respectively, and it could be the Uruguay will be away on World Cup duty quite a lot this season.
The 5’11” midfielder has played 15 times for Uruguay.

As much as i love Owen, if he did go and we got berba on say 80k a week it would help with the wage structure. By having Owen so far ahead in wages it will ultimately end up with other players expecting to come close.

Becks is never gonna leave LA…. 19 entertainment and AEG pay rolled his move over there…. I ahve worked for both of them over the summer including a celebrity ’soccer match’ at the home depot arena and spent time with the whole team as well as the ‘big wigs’ from AEG that hired me.
DB is way to valuable from a marketing perspective to let go and as always in the states has an iron clad contract. Its not like over here in Europe. BUT Ill be back at the galaxy in september for a new project and I will pass your comments on to him….

Paul - err, not sure what you’re implying lad. You seem to have an obsession with short lengths yourself….sad, very sad.
My concern is that our forward line lacks height Assuming Owen doesn’t leave tomorow (and I reckon he won’t) then we have him and Oba as the two best strikers at the club. Both first choice but both little lads. They also both work best playing with a tallker striker.
Who is that going to be this season? The Duke is old and another sick note and you can discount both Smith and Ameoi. Caroll is a prospect but too young. Besides neither of these are especially mobile.
I want to know Xisco’s height becuase we need a quick and mobile but TALL centre forward to really make out attack work.
