Surprising news today coming out of Valencia that their goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle has claimed Newcastle United are keen to sign him.
Tim Krul – linked again with Feyenoord
Not sure how this can be true since we have Steve Harper in reserve, and he has proved many times he is a very capable deputy for Shay Given.
So if we are to bring in an experienced goalkeeper it’s either because Newcastle may not renew Steve’s contract which runs out next year or that they want to send their two young goalkeepers Forster and Krul out on loan.
And there is news coming in, although this may be recycled that Feyenoord are again interested in our 20 year-old Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul. This would be OK as long as it’s just a loan deal.
He’s too good and still too young to sell at this stage of his career, and he’s already said he loves the Newcastle club – which is always nice to hear from the players.
The French keeper was tipped to become a top class player when he left Metz in 2004, but his Spanish adventure proved to be a nightmare, as he failed to become number one at Valencia.
The 25-year-old French keeper Butelle is expected to move on after his manager Unai Emery publically revealed he could be released.
So we may have some transfer activity going on today with goalkeepers, but surely that is the least of our priorities and we should be concentrating on bringing in outfield players.
We’ll have to remember that any possible deals that were reported over the summer, may be recycled today, in the slim hope that some may even be true. 😀
Comments welcome.

Comment #6We need a midfield; then a CF and/or a striker, then another LB as cover for Enrique, then perhaps a Defensive Midfielder.
What the hell are we going to do with another Goaly ffs?? We have 4 good ones as it is.

Comment #11I was at the mega bowl last night in benton and seen Krul with his missus playing pool. I asked him what he was doing in a dive like that and he said ‘same as you mate, having a laugh’ top bloke top player. Dont need a keeper.
Plus have you heard all those dirty Gooners banging on about Barton? How quickly they forgot that Tony Adams spent time in the nick and Merson was a Smack Head!!! Hypocrits!!! I hate Cockneys almost as much as the Makems!!

Comment #13So who do we have, and who do we need?
I keep reading reports that the Gonzalez loan deal is done and dusted, so that’s one midfielder. I’m also reading that Xisco is as good as signed, which is the striker worry addressed, but what about defenders?
I’m really hoping for another 3 today, on top of the ones that look to be done deals.
What do you all think?

Comment #14Uhmmmmmm….would be pleased if we get Lennon. Not sure about Malouda and I think he’s made almost zero impact at Chelsea. Mind you, Mourinho clearly rated him when he signed him so I’d be optimistic if it happens. I’m also on the fence over Zog a lot of the time. I’ve been excited about what he might do for us but then he rarely looks like he’s going to dribble past players and also doesn’t often have the killer pass. He needs to add something to his game.

Comment #15I love the Zog man. He’ll be a legend yet. The boy’s talented. Just needs to sort his attitude out, he looks a little lazy every now and then.
I think he’ll be much better when he is played consitently in midfield and Keegan has a backup LB. A bit of a worry for Zog now that Enrique’s injured though. More LB action instead of his natural/preferred positions.

Comment #16can someone help me understand this Nacho deal because I simply cant – all we are doing is a favour to Valencia – they have just signed him! we have had all summer to sign a quality attacking midfielder and what do we end up doing??? loaning some other teams player to either make him better or advertise him to potential suitors – i have to be honest, i am a little worried about that

Comment #25If we sell Krul I am gonna be mad. He is blatantly the next Dutch number 1 and duture superstar. Looking at the future of the club, what we should be doing is loaning Krul out this season and not renewing Harper’s contract. As much as I hate to say it, Harps has to leave. He needs to get first team football somewhere else and if he stays, it is going to mean that Krul will have to leave. At the end of the season Krul should become our new second choice keeper, for the good of the future of the club. If we do sell him, then we had better have a first-option clause inserted, that allows us to buy him back on the cheap, should we so desire, at some point in the future. I met him in the Gate last season and he’s such a nice guy, on top of being a great keeper. He said he loves Newcastle and really wants to play for them for a long time. But he will leave, and i can’t blame him, if there is no chance of him even making the bench. we must look to the future…

Comment #27Selling Smith is a great move. Selling Owen would not be a problem, just not today, unless we have Sammy Eto’o and/or Gomis lined up and in the bag beforehand.

Comment #28If Berbatov would entertain the idea of going to Man City then he would more than entertain the idea of signing for us I have no doubt about that. I know it’s a lot of money but we would make a lot back in shirt sales, tv revenue and he would be treat like a king at Newcastle that’s for sure.
Malouda and Lennon would be great I really rate both players and they would improve our team no end. It would also free up the likes of Duff or Guttirez to play in centre midfield or behind the front 2. It would give us more options and that’s what we need in midfield, especially if we want to win most of our home games.
The keeper sounds like a good move to me, again most of the ground work sounds like it’s been done and maybe he has already had a medical with Gonzalez to save time?

Comment #37we need a goalie in, and we dont need one to go out….
one of the things newcastle have actually got spot on, is our goalkeeper’s…..
tim krul is a future star. given is a star, harper is a very capable goalkeeper. etc etc. silly to consider any goalkeeping options.

Comment #39Man City have put in a bid for Berbatov and we are getting loan deals for players we have never heard of, and strikers who can’t score.
Anybody who thinks Mike Ashley is the saviour can think again.
Relegation within 2 seasons I’m afraid.
No real investment, no chance
