Alan Smith’s £3M move from Newcastle to Everton looks to be doubtful, because the player turned up at Newcastle’s Darsely Park training complex this morning.
Alan Smith - serious doubts about his Everton move
There had been reports that he was on his way to Everton to have a medical and possible sign for Everton, but this is not good news for the club (sorry Alan, it’s nothing personal).
Smith, 27, has had a poor year at the club he joined a year ago, and as a striker has not scored a single goal, yet he is still on a massive £60K/week, and may be inclined to take a pay cut to move to Everton, where at least he would get more games.
It appears, as we reported earlier today that if he moved to Everton he would have to take a drastic pay cut, and the player still has four years left on his contract at Newcastle.
How many times do we see players not wanting to move from Newcastle because they are on massive wages, which they hardly deserve. It’s small wonder that owner Mike Ashley is trying to bring wages more into balance at the club.
But in spite of his poor record at Newcastle it seems like manager Kevin Keegan is still keen to keep him, because his squad is very small and Kevin feels he can still get the best out of Alan.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, however, is said to be unimpressed by Smith – no wonder he stopped wearing number 17 - and is keen to do business because Smith’s departure would reduce the wage bill, and we’d lose a player who has not produced.
We’d like to see Alan move on – but it’s also dependent on who we are bringing to the club, but it looks right now as though are squad will be smaller than last season, when it was woefully inadequate to deal with any injuries.
Comments welcome.

No surprise, i never thought he’s be leaving anyways. By the way where the hell is our LB signing, probably the most important signing we needed?

Surely Everton would accept £3 million to take him away….. offer them £4 million and private jet to take him plzzzzz

Ed, Can’t you scrap these “Congratulations” links? They’re trash and simply cheapen the blog.
15 Danish_Magpie // Sep 1, 2008 at 15:37
My only concern from this transfer window, is that Keegan stated back in May that one position we definetly needed to strengthen was LB as Enrique is all we’ve got and that he felt we needed a quality LB. We have not signed any yet. This is surprising as money is available to Keegan, so it must be because we have:
a) Not been able to find one in 3 months (which would be simply not good enough)
b) Not able to attract any of the quality we desire (a shame but noones ‘fault’ really)
Still hope for something to add to Xisco and Nacho, but if not, we will soldier on with what we have.

I asked the question on the other page but what happened with the Warnock deal? I love Smudger always thought he was quality but after the leg break he’s not really done anything!!! Shame like but he needs to go. Ameobi is a total waste of space.
Ashley REALLY REALLY REALLY needs to splash the cash or he’ll be in danger of losing the fans!

Alot of people think us geordies are stupid and some people on this Blog are close to proving it hmmm… STOP TRIEING TO THINK WE ARE GOING TO SIGN HUNTELAAR OR BERBATOV IT WON’T HAPPEN… EVER. 1st of all we are not as big of a club as we used to be and no Europe qualification. 2nd we are making steady progress no matter how slow it may seem and the demise is faster than progress made. 3rd MA has the money but wants to spend it wisely unlike spuds and man sh*tty as they were total pap last season and we don’t want to end up like them. DUH Berbatov will come to Newcastle DUH and so will Huntelaar DUH and Ronaldinho DUH DUH we are gonna win da premier league and World Cup DUH. This prick feigned injury so he couldnt be sold.
He is utterly useless. Cant stand him.
59 Potski // Sep 1, 2008 at 16:12
The loan signing of Gonzalez is risk-free and ideal in our current situation.
Without having any specific background info, Xisco sounds like just the type of player we need right now (tall pacey centre forward with potential) and I have genuine faith in the quality of our latest recruits with Guthrie, Spidy and Colo to go by.
I’m hopeful that we’ve got the Left-Back we need lined-up as we just allowed trialist Zayatte to move to Hull (please, not Atouba tho!).
‘SD Toon’ you’re a total mug - why are you so negative towards the best endeavours of the club? How can you possibly have a pop at MAshley when he’s invested so much of his personal money and time in our club?
Parasytes like you need a reality check and start looking at the bigger picture!

@ SD TOON, I think you’re right.. we are heading for a season of mediocrity. But in reality that may not be such a bad thing. The MA buy-out revealed a potential financial implosion. Now averted, we have to be patient and accept a slow (compared to others) period of sustained growth, unless Prince Abu Dabi or somebody comes along and chucks shed loads of money at us. If u consider that the last 4 years we’ve finished in the bottom half of the Premiership, and teams like Villa/Man City/Spurs have invertsed £30-£40million and will not break into the top4, you really need to get a grip on reality.

NB 1000 - Ah, I see. Fair enough. Just to clarify I wasn’t saying that we could compete now, or comparing Citeh to us when we went head to head with ManU for a player. I was trying to say that Fergie has a reputation for completing a deal when he really wants the player who another club is bidding for.

If Berba goes to Madrid, do you recon the Saviola deal could be back on?

127 TOONARMYTOM // Sep 1, 2008 at 16:57
When will xisco finish his medical?
anyone think we will have anyone else in?
128 samthecat // Sep 1, 2008 at 16:58
Clearly Keegan said we needed a left back, centre back and another holding midfielder, so far only 1 position has been covered.
He later specified both full back positions.
We know have 6 forwards in number if not in name and 2 full backs?

So I was talking to this bloke in the pub. He told me his name was Mike Ashley, so I said get your podgy fingers in yer pocket you tight-fisted git and buy some proper (WOW) footballers. He said “I’ve just spent £250 mill with another £27 mill owing getting your sorry arses out of debt, and I’ll spend more money when I decide, not when you lot say I should. And if you don’t like it, what are you going to do about it” Well, I was a bit stuck for a sensible answer, so I thought I would come on here and gather a few incitefull replies before getting back to him.
I await with baited breath.

NO ONE HAVE ANY NEWS THEN???? WHAT ABOUT THIS XISCO KID?
131 Nickies Butt 1000 // Sep 1, 2008 at 16:59
Not really ANDYGLOSTOON as the player might turn out sh*te in the premier league and that would a waste of money. A waste of alot of money on what could have brought in a few that had been scouted by NUFC scouts that that no. of players were good enough. example of bad fan signings Shevchenko.
132 Micky Toon // Sep 1, 2008 at 16:59
So Berbatov to Real Madrid.
Is this just a load of clubs trying to p*ss off ManU?
Spurs because ManU wouldn’t pay their price.
Citeh, becuase it’s Citeh?
RM because they couldn’t get Ronaldo?
Next year Ronaldo to RM for Berbatov plus cash.

Serious question here, keagan said that by the end of today, we would think thgat selling milner would look like apositive move does anyone at the minute thinks its positive, because it looks to me that ashley just wanted the money he spent on colocini back before he spent more
