Has Keegan Resigned At Newcastle?

September 2nd, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 888 Comments

There are growing rumors that crisis talks were held this morning and that Kevin Keegan is reported to have walked out on Newcastle United.

Kevin Keegan - has he resigned?
We have to stress that this is NOT confirmed and it’s a natural; rumor this morning, becasue Kevin must have felt disappointed that only two new players were brought in yesterday, when we lost one of our best players last Friday, in James Milner.

Kevin may also feel he has let the fans down, because he said judge us at the end of the transfer window, and things are not as good as most fans would have liked.

To us Kevin Keegan is Newcastle United right now, so we hope this is not true.

If it is – the club will probably make a short statement on their official site, but that will leave us in terrible shape.

There is nothing confirmed, and we hope it’s just another made up rumour.

Comments welcome.

i can’t believe this. sack the board

  • 3 James // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:08 AM

We signed 4 players behind his back (Gonzalez, Coloccini, Gutierrez, and Xisco) and sold one he told the board not to sell (Milner).

I said it at Christmas, that KK’s support of Barton would end up forcing him out the door because Ashley wants Barton out. Barton got Fat Sam the sack and he’ll get KK kicked out too. If not today then in the foreesable future.

if this is true then we have to get ashley out before he ruins this club.

i hope it is not true, but ever since we sold milner i have thought this was inevitable

  • 15 mozza // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:13 AM

this just gets better and better, when will our club be run properly, without rumors fuled by poor leadership and communication as well as the undermining of managers and to think people yesterday were saying how well they thought the new regime has done, what a joke. I said we would know where we stand with the new regime by 12 last night and now we do and it leaves me deeply uninspired

  • 16 ANDYGLOSTOON // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:14 AM

KEV IS THE AMBASSIDOR TO OUR CLUB.I AM PROUD HE IS OUR MANAGER AND I GOD ONLY HOPE THAT THIS IS A RUMOUR

  • 17 magx52 // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:14 AM

It just makes me wonder what the hell Denis Wise ansd all his cronies have been doing all summer. If Keegan was in charge of recruitment I think we would be alot more satisfied with our transfer window activities as he loves our club with a passion that he instills in any potential signings. Stay in London Denis and let the main man get on with what he’s good at and you haven’t got a clue about…………Kevin Keegan IS Newcastle United

I think if Keegan has gone, we have to complain and make ourselves heard, we need to make Ashley sell up, and then the New owner get our King back…. He was promised 100’s or millions, and we ended up spending under 10m net, it sickens me…… really sickens me, please to God, dont let Kev go, make Ashley sell…. PLEASE!!!

  • 20 MichaelA // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:16 AM

James, that’s some canny reliable info right there. Or maybe not, you didn’t include guthrie behind his back why? he’s english so Keegan must have wanted him. That gutierrez and coloccini were though, because most people had never heard of them.

Get a grip man, I’m a big fan opinion not random comments stating facts you can have no way of knowing their validity. Unless you read the papers of course then you must know for sure.

I’m not saying these are rosy times, far from it. but facts are the very thing we know nothing about, and that is part of the problem.

  • 21 shiggy // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:17 AM

    Answer.

Ashley should look for a more suitable purchaser. I think he has went in with his eyes closed when he bought the club, not realising the financial needs to make a club both popular with the fans and successful.

I hope Kevin Keegan hasnt walked and if Dennis Wise does get installed, i think there should be a no attendance gate at SJP in protest.

However as it is pure speculation at the moment…

Where was Keegan with his new signing???

  • 25 carl // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:18 AM

I posted on here around a month ago that there was problems between KK and MA and that it would blow up. I was shouted down as if I was some sort of heretic that was Blaspheming against the mighty KK. I was told that people like me werent real fans.
I was actually told that if I didnt have anything positive to say I shouldnt say it.
What I pointed out was that there was clear friction between KK , MA and Dennis wise etc…
and that it would lead to KK walking out. It may not happen this time but people are blind if they cant see the clear problems now! And that isnt being negative its just the fact!

  • 26 Bosck // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:18 AM

This was in the Daly Mail, hardly a high source of concrete fact.

IF Keegan has walked out i will personally be more annoyed with keegan, as that is not the way to deal with conflict, but personally dont think there is any substance to it.

As for signing the four players behind keegans back james that is complete tripe.

Also if it is true calls keegans integrity into question as if he didnt agree with the milner shouldnt have said it was his decision.

personally though i think it is utter B*****X, course there’s a press conference this afternoon. there is 2 new players to introduce to the press!!

  • 27 MMNUFC // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:18 AM

  • 31 Toonio // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:21 AM

I wouldn’t blame Keegan if he walked out, the club is counting the pennies and showing very little ambition, while clubs around us take leaps forward. I’m sick of men in suits ruining the club and what is stands for. I’m pissed off and on my way to deliver a brick through a Sports Soccer window.

  • 38 mozza // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:24 AM

tto put things in perspective we have rooted around the bargain basement while citeh placed bids in excess of 300 million euros yesterday, i know we can’t compete with this, but this years transfer window to me looks like a board who will be happy with mid table pish so they don’t have to risk buying to compete at the other end, which is a disgrace, lets milk the thick geordie cash cow eh they’ll support no matter what and heres a thought if KK does leave which is highly possible who takes over “wise ?”

  • 39 sweendog // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:25 AM

Total paper lies .. everyone knows keegan wanted 3-5 players .. he got 2 .. so theres going to be friction .. if there heads to roll Wise has to go .. it seems like KK and MA get on .. so get rid of the loose cannon, or the expendible midget that messes up contracts..

  • 43 Micky Toon // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:26 AM

Why can’t you lot see that Keegan walking is his own fault and no one elses. If Keegan loves the club as much as he says he does why leave now when we need a manager? Keegan is and always has just been about Keegan and no one else. You have all bought into the hype and cannot see that him walking now would be a massive betrayal of the club. If he is unhappy then by all means look for another job, but wait until we have a successor before going. To go now would be a disaster. I never thought I’d say this, but Keegan must stay for the good of the club.
If this is true and I’m 70% sure it’s bollox then Keegan is not a man he is a cry baby. No one person is bigger or better than NUFC that includes the owner, manager and the players. It should always be what is best for the club and Keegan walking in a hissy fit like a little girl is not what we need.
KEEGAN GROW SOME BALLS AND STAY.

  • 46 YongFC // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:27 AM

NO PLZZZZZZZ, we need u KK.

there are no any good manager for us at the moment, a new manager come, they like their own player, which we need buy again, waste time and money…

Now KK just stay and wait until Jan then buy some player which position is short, give KK 3 years, he can brings us success.

  • 47 Malc // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:28 AM

Keegan is now 1/2 on to be the next manager to leave his club on Betfair.

“he didnt agree with the milner shouldnt have said it was his decision. ”

That was speech was Management Speak for I didn’t want this to have happened and I can’t say that I didn’t want that to happen. It was clear from hearing Keegan saying that that it wasn’t his decision at all.

If Wise does get the job in the dugout then I would hate to think what his reception would be.

If all this is true then I can see this driving Keegan out of football for good. Which is going to be as unforgivable.

  • 48 mitch // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:29 AM

  • 50 Oliver // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:29 AM

Keegan needs money and control and trust from his chairman. He got nothing. The people running this club are doing a pis poor effort. Selling players and only buying a bit when we already have a very thin squad.

No matter who comes after Kevin he will be doomed to be hated by the fans because Keegan is the King!

i think we all know deep down it is true, no matter how gutting that is for us all. i totally echo the sentiments of westoon is post 14

but instead of boycotting the hull game, why dont we use it to sing KK’s name as loud as we can and let this board know exactly where our loyalties lie?? or will we do that tonight after KK’s departure is announced

if this turn out to be true, i’m officially on the “sack the board” bandwagon. gutted, betrayed, let down…some of the many things im feeling

  • 57 mitch // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:32 AM

  • 58 Ericles // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:33 AM

ALL behind KK. Kick that Wise Arse out of the door with his London cronies. Without KK we will be at the mercy of these dick heads both in side and outside the club. We need to demonstrate our support for KK and the team in no uncertain terms. Burn the Daily Mail etc outside St James.

  • 59 gorskino10 // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:33 AM

If this happens it cannot happen at a worse time, start of season when Team is doing quite well we got 4 Points which is good from 3 games, we have 2 new players but i wouldnt bare a grudge with KK as Ashley has been a twat about the Budget you can keep changing how much he gets, and now he couldnt even spend the 12million from Milner :( .
IF THIS IS TRUE IT WILL RUIN OUR TEAM THIS YEAR AND IT WILL BE ANOTHER CRAP YEAR.

  • 60 ben // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:33 AM

i no that M A isnt n e 1s favorite guy this mornin but lets look at the facts ….
1 this club was in shit state b4 MA took over

2 he hired a recruitment team who may not hav brought vast numbers in at the club but have been quality sighnings non the less

3 we cant attract big players as we are not in europe that is neither kevin wises or m a fault

4the wow sighning sounds like it was a visious rumour that a fan wrote hoping to cause trouble and discontent and it sounds like hes succeded

5 and finaly look at aston vila they look an awsum side and its taken randy lerner 2/3 years to buy players ints beensteady and noticeable progress which is what newcastle united need to do M A isnt stupid he knows that throwing money at a problem isnt always the solution ala freddy shepherd i to am disapointed that we didnt sighn a robiniho type player but he is unprooven in england and may b a flop (fingers crossed eh :) cummon the toon

  • 61 a mothball from Ashleys wallet // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:34 AM

Could anyone really blame KK if he has resigned? He has been made to look a fool by the club over the sale of Milner and his comments about bringing new players in. He has not been backed in the transfer market, indeed, it has been speculated as to what role he has in the acquisition of players. He has been left with a seriously depleted squad that only managed to avoid a relegation battle by the skin of its teeth last season! Why should he want to stay??? Meanwhile our owner seems content to flaunt the law at away games and have a laugh but not invest in the first team! He’s a brave man if he thinks he’ll still be able to have a carry on with us lot after this debacle…and dont even get me started on Wise! He is in charge of recruitment, he hasnt done his job, he should be sacked. Simple as!

Everyone just keep your pants on yeh. Yes transfer dealins didnt go as flash as we would have liked but it wasnt all that bad, not bringing in alot of new players gives the current crop time to gel, thats what sparky did at blackburn and it works.

I didn’t think it was possible to hate Barton anymore than I already do, but if he is the reason for Keegan’s resignation then he must be terminated (and i don’t just mean his contract).

Barton is ripping this club in half and for that reason alone he should have already gone.

Ed Speed – have that same feeling in my gut mate. We have all been sucked into the media frenzy. Maybe this is true but the way its being reported, and the way some fans are responding, all adds to the “soap opera” tag we’ve got. This is a mess regardless of whether there is any substance to the rumours circulating.

Dennis Wise is one of the least popular figures in modern football and he is trying to drive our recruitment – what chance do we have?

I hope that KK stays and MA has the foresight to get rid of ND (Nasty Dennis) as he seems to have achieved nothing but friction since he was appointed.

I have missed 10 home games in 25 years and if Wise is our next manager I doubt I will see 10 in the next 25 years.

I hope this is not true. If it is I am disgusted in what our club has become – a southern club run by southerners with only one geordie on the pitch!

What should happen is that Ashleys hands KK a transfer budget and KK gets on with spending it.
This is what he wants and it clearly hasnt happened-out of the 36 names handed in as targets by Keegan he got 1 in Guthrie.
Throughout the transfer window it seems Jimenez/Wise/Vetere have been in complete control of transfers.

  • 87 Ikovian // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:43 AM

First post for me. Cracking site by the way, glad you got a more stable server too because the old one was a bit of a piss take lets be honest.

Just thought i’d say that i’m feeling a bit more confident than the rest of you seem that this is a load of bollocks. A major reason for that is because it seems this big exclusive was broke by non-other than regular shite hawks the daily mail. As a point of reference they also said Owen was leaving for £2 million this summer, which seemed just a laughable a read at the time as it turned out to be.

If i’m way of the mark then don’t i look stupid, but i’m not jumping to any conclusions is all i’m saying. Poor KK is probably just having a lie in!

  • 88 Steven // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:43 AM

yes, KK IS NUFC!! There is no other.

  • 89 BenjiToon // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:43 AM

If there’s one thing our club needs its someone in its hierarchy who understands what the Toon means to the area, what football means to us. At the moment that man is KK. He can NOT be allowed to go.

  • 90 Micky Toon // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:44 AM

It is not MA’s fault, it is KK’s fault.
You lot are daft. Even if we spent £100m this summer he would still spit his dummy out in a year or two’s time.
Keegan stay until we get someone who can handle the pressure.

However if Wise is appointed as manager I will personally walk the 250 miles to St James and punch Ashley in the face.

And to be fair it would be Wise who else could we get there no one out there we can get that WILL COME after seeing the lack of money from Ashley.
Once again if this is true which i hope not then Ashley SHOULD SELL he making our club look a circus

    Answer none.
Since when did a blog decide how NUFC is ran? Answer never. If keegan walks again and leaves us in the crap for a second time as he did last time then he doesn’t deserve your love.

  • 102 ToonFaith // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:50 AM

Its on the BBC website that KK is meeting with the board amid speculation he is leaving.

  • 103 ToonRich // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:50 AM

I wonder if there is another Arab group watching this, thinking we can give the fans what they deserve…

I will be happy for KK to stand down, but only if it’s because of the board (I want him(KK) to stay).

You might think spending silly money on players wont work, but think about it…KK wouldnt waste money like that – given the backing he’d create a monster of a team :) but I doubt he’ll get the chance now :(

    so its just a rumor

  • 106 Bosamuelson // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:51 AM

    Oh come on please

what is the point. We got in some good players, some very good players. The whole time KK was pulling out the chesnut ‘if theres no quality we won’t be signing’, you cant argue with that. All we go on about is WOW bloody signings we want this and that, that club are doing that…etc. etc. Where has it got us, here and know having to rebuild. If we put a 30mil bid in for anyone they would laugh at us, purely becausethey would be a world class player coming to a non European team.

As for KK leaving, well ok yes he’s a great manager and a legend, it is all at the moment speculation. I say again SPECULATION. What have we learnt from this summer. DO NOT, I say again DO NOT believe the press, this all stemmed from (correct me if Im wrong) the Daily Mirror. I mean come on get a grip.

And what if he did jump ship, he is cutting his nose of to spite his face, this maybe not what you may want to here, but what a pathetic kid. I want this and that, right thats it im not playing. Oh come on, its the same as a player if you aint got your heart in the club then do one. Its like Berbatov, I want to play for Utd….I wont play for Spurs and Ill be in a grump until I play for Utd. I want this player…Ill spit my dummy out and leave if you dont by me it.

    How old are ya…

“But you promised…” Yea but I didnt know we had another 70mil debt (maybe he did at the time I dont know), look my point is things change, its Ashleys money and he has brought us a hell of a long way since Sheperd.

Im not saying I will be happy about if KK leaves, but if he does, its his loss as much as the clubs and I will loose all respect for him I had.

    Regards

This news more than anythign else has really peed me off. Like I said just when we need him the most Keegan disappears. What a great example of leadership and getting stuck in.

I still think it’s bollox and it’s stirred everyone up over nothing.

  • 112 Luke // Sep 2, 2008 at 11:53 AM

It looks like we have one more day of anxiety to add to yesterday.

Listen: firstly we don’t know the facts so stop with the I hate MA stuff. It’s tedious. You all KNOW for a fact that he saved the club from brankruptcy. That our precious club is even here is something to be grateful for. Yes, I mean that and have a good think about the contrary.

Keegan said we had money PRIOR to selling Milner and that he hoped to get a replacement. We have clearly been knocked back in our attempts to sign replacements. It happens. We don’t have that draw of London life, big club status or the willingness to send us back towards insolvency with stupid wage, ala Modric, Woodgate, Nasri etc. We are building to becoming a bigger club and that will happen at this rate if not overnight.

Our team is much improved on last year. We have signed young, promising, talented players to replace people who made little or no contribution to last season, exluding faye and Milner. Rozenhal was on loan from jan, carr, ramage were injured, troisi couldn’t get a game etc etc.

If Keegan leaves, I and you should be angry with him. HE will have let us down. As someone said, this is no way to deal with conflict. It would be a resolution that left the club and the fans he loves down shit creek without a paddle.

If KK goes everyone should stay away from the next home match, cause Ashley the only pain he knows in his pocket.

The one big problem with this club are the fans who always get behind the club no matter what, an empty stadium would make a loder noise than angry screaming fans, let Ashley sit on his own in his club and drink as many pints as he wants.

Luke there is a flaw in your argument KK hasn’t let us down. There is only so much sh*te one can take and buying & selling players behind your managers back is not the way to run a club. If this is true and KK leaves (sacked) then I for one will, after 53 years of passion for this club not support them any more until Ashley has sold the club to someone who wants to REALLY make us a top 4 club by investing lots of money into the club. I think if this is true then we will struggle big time & probably finish as the lowest north east team in the PL not just out of the top 6 but outside the top 15. The only word I can think of to sum up my frustration is BOLLOCKS

I love KK, if he walks then i will understand as i too cant stand another minute to support a team thats being bankrolled by Scrooge McDuck Inc.

I’ll say it again, if you want to go and read about a club with ambition your best to go and check out Man City… their owners have been in charge less than 24 hours and have already spent buckets more cash than Ashley has in over 12 months.

Stay away from the home game? Don’t be so damn soft. Support the club not the manager, not the owner, not the players, but the club. It’s the club as a whole that counts not individuals.

If Keegan was sacked then I’d be a bit annoyed as although he isn’t my favourite person to be in the job he hasn’t done anything wrong.
If he resigns then Keegan deserves to be kicked out of Newcastle for good. So he didn’t get all the chocolate he was promised. Boo hooo. Suck it up and do the best with what you’ve got. Do you see Redknapp, Moyes, Scholari all handing in their notice? No.
But my breath is wasted as Keegan could set fire to some peoples houses and it wouldn’t be his fault, but the fault of the people who build the house for making it burn so easily.

  • 140 Bill F Ash Didn't Splash :( // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:03 PM

So nothing new happening. We have been through this sort of shi*e before and we still endure. Whatever happens the fans will remain, I just hope the next manager is a strong one and is actually allowed to manage.
I expect the lap dog Wise (who hates the fans apparently) will be installed as temporary manager whilst Nero fiddles around trying to persuade some other sap to take KK’s place.

Wouldn’t it be bloo*y ironic if we got our first modern silverware under Wise though.

  • 141 Luke // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:03 PM

If Ashley tried to sell Barton behind Keegan’s back, that could be a problem.

    It’s dealt with like this:

Keegan: “what the F**k did you try and do that for?”
MA: “he’s a liability, would free up some wages…”
Keegan: “I told you I wanted to keep him.”
    MA: “I know but, it’s just he’s giving us a bad rep…”
Keegan: “If that’s the way you’re going to conduct business, then I’m out.”
    MA: “Sorry… please stay.”
Keegan: “Do it again and I’m off.”

    done.

If he goes, I hope we can Souness back. Reckon he’s got unfinished business here.

Keegan to stay. Don’t leave Kev. Stick out, get us up the league, galvanise the fans.

Oh and to those choosing now, of all times, to criticise Kevin. Call yourself fans?! Keegan is a legend at this club for a reason – he was a great player for us, he was a great manager for us first time round and his family are from the area. He IS a supporter of this club, not just someone here for the pay check or glory.

Need I remind you that TWICE Keegan saved us from relegation to the 3rd division? Once as player, once as manager. TWICE he ensured Beardsley came to the club and was allowed to play some his best football. TWICE he nearly won the Premiereship, the closest we’ve ever got. He brought Shearer, our all time leading goalscorer home.

No one, excepting Milburn and Shearer and just possibly Sir Bobby, deserve as fond a place in Geordie hearts as Keegan. Of course the man makes mistakes. Of course his judgement is sometimes off. But he remains and always wil;l a legend to true Toon fans. KK critics – get lost before you embarass yourselves further.

Talk of a new Manager at the moment is nonsense… KK is doing a fine job at the moment and although I am sure he feels a little agrieved by the promises that have been broken and the activity behind his back he would not just walt out without telling the fans FIRST

  • 170 AndyNUFC // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:17 PM

Yet again, so many people are falling into the trap of having such a strong opinion on purely speculation when really, nobody knows what is going. We as NUFC fans, partially down to a lack of communication from the club, seem to make our own minds up on things before any official confirmation is made.

But, there’s many sides to a story.

If Keegan has walked out because of Ashley selling players/ not buying enough then Keegan is wrong for not sticking it out and trying to make the best, then again Ashley will also need to stay out of the football and transfer side of things.

Does anybody actually think that Ashley would secretly sell Milner, yet hang onto Owen and offer an improved contract? He clearly told Keegan we had a good offer for Milner and asked him what to do.

Ashley/Keegan clearly have plans for the future, and in all fairness although Milner was a decent prospect, he was not that important for the squad.

Be bloody great buying a 6foot 2 striker and having Jimmy “I can’t cross or beat a full back to save my life but run constantly” Milner providing the (lack of) aerially service to him, wouldn’t it? We sell 22 year old Milner, yet place a better winger (Gutierrez) in his place, and still have 22 year old N’Zogbia on the left, who can sometimes cross and dribbles naturally well. Stop crying because he’s english!

The 2 we signed yesterday were exactly the players we needed, and we now have a complete squad, if not far off. The only problem is the cover/depth, but we have many youngsters to rely on, a few decent fringe players, and there’s always January to buy some more.

Hope I helped to calm a couple of worries for people there.

RobB,Mickeytoon ..I agree The Toon are a vocation … even if Keegan leaves (which I’d be gutted with) we should still support the club .. .. we don’t have to support the board though (if these rumours are true, at the moment they’re not true)

  • 175 Luke // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:18 PM

Ageordiedoonsooth: there is no floor. If he did resign, we would be left in the lurch. He needs to make the most of the trying circumstances and do what he does best, coach. I am glad we have the scouting network in place. To be honest, if it was left to Keegan he’d probably be buying overpriced and overrated english talent. Not that nationality means anything to me. I love the man, but some of you think he can do no wrong.

I see the ignoramus that is 51times has pulled his head out of his own innards and re-joined us. You do realise that free speech works both ways don’t you? Like this: is 51 your intelligence quotient?

PS. I was joking about said Jock.

  • 176 Micky Toon // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:18 PM

51 Times – Sometimes it takes a minority to show the majority the way.
Hand on heart you can’t deny what I’m saying is true. Problem is everyone got caught up in the Keegan hype. Everyone thought is was summer of 96 all over again with big signings everywhere and we’d be top four.
Now, when it’s all come on top people are angry and feeling betrayed. By all means vent your anger, but make sure you vent at the right people.
Perhaps MA could have invested more heavily. However evidence suggests that we did try some big money signings and they didn’t come.
But you cannot deny that Keegan throwing his toys out for a second time at a time when the club needs him the most is an act of selfish betrayal.

Keegan is a legend because of what he has done for the club. The club is in his soul and it should be in yours if you are true supporter. He goes – we praise him and cheer the team against Hull. He stays – we praise him, sing his name and cheer the team against Hull.

    LADS, LISTEN UP.

Keegan signed a THREE YEAR CONTRACT.

Has nobody even thought of the possibility that these talks were along the lines of “We just missed that player, bad luck, Ashley, can we revisit in January?” Or discussing other business in order to take the club forward.

If Keegan truly is kicking up a fuss and a storm then i’m sorry, but I’m taking Ashley’s side. The money was always there, clearly in the case of Coloccini. If Keegan doesn’t feel like he can stick it out because we’re short of players or quality, then hey Kev, welcome to the world of Mark Hughes, David Moyes and Martin O’Neill of a few years back. Those 3 managers clearly showed that sensible buying and gradual growth over a period of stability is much more rewarding in the long run.

Jonas, Geremi, Barton, Guthrie, Butt, Duff, N’Zogbia, Lua Lua, Gonzalez

Owen, Martins, Viduka, Xisco, (Smith), Carrol.

That’s a squad of 25 pretty good players overall, with experience as well, not including other younger players that Keegan should trust to bring through.

If we pick up 1 or 2 in January and change a couple next season we are fine. We have a small squad of about 25, the exact size Mourinho likes and thinks best for competition. This is a growing team and our club much to many’s opinion is being run properly…for the first time. Just because Keegan wants to throw cash at the problem doesn’t mean it’s the best way to go forward. He could, if he stays get this squad doing well and slowly build this January and next summer. If it wasn’t for all the crap of throwing 30 million odd at one player and false talk of wow signings and bullsh-t in the press surely we should look at all this as not bad, moving forward. Get real and help Keegan or whoever build this squad and this club again.

I’m one of the ‘kids’ you all love to dismiss and yet, despite my immature years I can still see the possitives through the press vomit!

  • 225 chinzaknuk // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:36 PM

@Ben – i agree with the points you made and think we as supporters need to have a reality check.
I’m sure many of you have played games like FIFA etc. and know that no matter how much you offer for some players, you just don’t get them.
I believe that for the first time in ages we have a board with a long term plan for this club, and they are building a quality squad as and when they can.

Just take a look at whate we actually now have for the season

    GK – Given / Harper

    RB – Beye / Edgar

    CB – Colo / Taylor / Bassong / Cacapa

LB – Enrique / – Bassong or N’Zog for cover

    RM – Jonas / Geremi

    CM – Guthrie / Butt / Barton / Nacho

    LM – Duff / N’Zog

    ST – Owen / Xisco / Oba / Viduka

The rest – Smith / Ameobi / Carrol & the kids

OK so not a huge squad and we could have done with a few more and kept Milner, but this is what we have till Jan anyway. So no more what if’s, what should have happened, this is it.

You either support the club or you don’t, because whinging, moaning and griping will not help the players one little bit.

I think the squad is an improvement on last season, and i do think we’ll have a decent season, certainly better than the last one, we have already seen what the team is capable of and with the 2 additions hopely it will improve that little bit more.

I for one will blindly support the club as i have always done.

Mickeytoon it is people like you with your undying love for the club no matter what that allows people like Ashley to do these things, you will worship the place if he reduces it to one brick and no pitch.

That is wrong in my opinion and looking at the posts and many other people’s opinions.

We need Keegan, he makes a very average team good, he lifts the performance of the majority of players, that is what we need.

It is all about football and entertainment, not bank balances and trying ‘to be different’ all he will do is reduce the club to dropping out of the premiership then if we sink low enough he may sign players for the price he wants to pay, no more than £200k.

This muppet wants to try and do what Alan Sugar and many others couldnt do, make money from football.

He is so thick he will probably see KK walking out as a cost saving exercise especially if he moves Wise in and doesnt employ anyone else.

Next thing the stadium will start showing wear and tear as things arent renewed.

He thinks he has bought a corner shop.

This could go down in history as the biggest mistake ever in club buying history.

Well done John Hall, this man is what the club needs someone to inject money in….

Honestly lads I cannot believe this is happening, I hope it’s all just been blown out of proportion by the press and it’s realy just a ‘clear the air’ meeting, if not this is going to be one crap day.

Anyway I cannot blame Keegan, we all knew (including Ashley) that he thinks with his heart and not his head and if he was promised things that hadn’t materialised then it’s Ashleys fault, and if they are in an ongoing meeting then Ashley had better do everything in his power to keep him at the club.

  • 237 BenjiToon // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:39 PM

Do NOT behave like idiots at the Hull game. Sack the board chants are one thing…not especially helpful but to be expected sometimes. But let’s not lose our heads here. How will it help us to win games if we don’t support the players? Stupid.

  • 238 Micky Toon // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:39 PM

If anything this is really going to spilt the support. People who think MA is a waste of space and people who feel let down that KK has bottled it again!
I like all the work that MA has done with the club. But if he sells and someone else comes in then so be it. I couldn’t give a flying who owns the club so long as we do ok on the pitch.
Ashley has backed the manager there is evidence to support that.
Perhaps Keegan was as deluded as some fans who thought we could get Berbatov and he now feels as upset as those fans. If that is the case then is is not the right person to be managing the team. We need someone who will play with the cards he is dealt and not cry that he doesn’t have a pair of aces.
Keegan as a man is a legend and I’ll always treasure him as a player and his first stint at the club. I was annoyed when he left us in the lurch and when he did the same to City, Fulham and England he showed his mettle as a manager. He can’t cope. If he goes and it’s because he didn’t get all of the presents he wanted then he really doesn’t deserve your support as he will be acting like a spoiled child at christmas. It is vital that KK puts his own concerns aside and stays and drives us through the season. Keegan should stop thinking about himself and think about the club and the fans and how much damage it would do to them if he left.

Tom4NUFC said it spot on if KK leaves and that poisonous little dwarf is installed then no one should go. Ashley has turned into FF, promising WOW signings and producing nothing just to get the season tickets solds what a fat cock he really is. I dont blame KK if he has left there’s surely only so much a man can take. I bet he was promised a couple of big named players when he was told that he had to stand by Ashley and let Milner go, ps Milner you did the right thing matey you were/are worth more than 20k p/w when Barton and owen are on 70k & 100k respectively.

Apparently this also has a lot to do with owen nearly leaving last night. He only stayed because kk interveened at the last minute. The deal was being done behind kks back. Wise was apparently in on the deal though which really put kks nose out of joint. The story will be in tonights sun.

  • 253 True // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:44 PM

Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has been holding talks with the board regarding his future, according to reports.

Keegan returned for his second stint as Magpies manager in January, but rumours suggest he could be leaving his role.

Sky Sports News understands Keegan did not take training on Tuesday and met with board members on Monday.

Speculation is claiming that Keegan has been unhappy with the club’s transfer dealings during the summer and is ready to leave St James’ Park.

The Magpies have made several signings in recent weeks, but doubts have persisted over Keegan’s future at the helm.

  • 257 faustino // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:46 PM

Alot of you are utter scum and should be ashamed of yourselves. If you want money and faschist backed glory seeking, f*cking do one will you. It’s a disgrace how much you lot creamed over posisble Dubai investment, Abramovich and Shinawatra before him. do you have any idea what it means to be involved with these criminals, gangsters and bigots?

In my opinion, ff Keegan walks he’s scum. This is the best squad we’ve had for years and he said himself he though we’ only get two players in before the end of the window a day or two ago. We’ve signed quality, ditched deadwood and look like a side. We have youth coming through and another opportunity to bolster in January. If he legs it now he’ll allow the press to tear him an us apart and it’s the end of the season, right now.

All you baying for singings. Where we’re all you nobs last year when we signed Viduka Smith Faye Beye Geremi etc. Utter dross signings the majority of them and people we’re still more positive then than now!

The majority of you have been played like the utter tubas that you are by the press. Convinced we’re f*ckd, convinced Ashley is the worst thing to have happened, convinced KK is gone and convinced we’ve done terrible in the market. I happen to think we’ve singed the five most exciting players at the club for a long long time. Young, gifted and commited. There was someone on here the other day claiming are squad was only as good as Hull. LEAVE NOW!

If we end up screwed, it won’t be because of Ashely, it will becuase yet again the baying moronic faction of the Toon Army has dribbled us into more chaos, gurning about how no ‘WOW/trophy signing’ has been made and that millions haven’t been spent.

Take me back to League 1 please. Where the atmoshpere was real, the players were the best we could get, the fans the best in the world and it was us against world. I wouldn’t stand with some of you lot in a stinking Bigg Market urinal.

Wise and Ashley are going to finish the best thing that we have had since Robson, Allerdyce couldnt do anything with Owen AND Martins AND all of the rest of them, with a depleted squad which plays flowing Keegan style football a replacement would be very difficult to find especially with a proven idiot owning the place.

This is really really bad, Keegan gone poison dwarf in and we are facing relegation.

  • 262 Matty // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:48 PM

Everything KK has said about Ashley and the direction he’s going has been positive. We’re lucky if we can get one player to sign for this Club, and to keep the good one’s that we have. Sucks to say that, but the truth hurts. It’s gonna take time, but this rumour is just a reminder of how quickly things can go pear shaped in one flash. Puts things in perspective.

  • 278 MAG PIE // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:54 PM

    Keegan has left

Judging from the Spanish leaning of our transfer policy he was never really the ‘Manager’ in the old fashioned sense anyway. I don’t think KK knew the Spanish leagues particularly well and ALL of our signings (possibly bar Guthrie) have probably been Vetere, Wise, Jimenez. KK was being used as a figurehead and chief coach.

The fact that he has gone should not affect our support for NUFC or for him. He has clearly been mis-led by Ashley regarding KK’s influence over transfer policy.

We should remain loyal to NUFC and particularly during the Hull game. We can chant pro-Keegan and anti-Ashley chants before and after the match if that’s how we feel but we must not fail to support the team during the game.

DIC – are you watching? Please buy the club and re-instate KK.

i for one will be supporting the toon, no matter what, il reserve my judgement on ashley untill i know the facts, because i was a keen supporter of him and the new regieme!! also i am a keegan fan, so this puts my in a difficult sitution, i just hope they can solve their differences and carry on with a team that is finally starting to look good for the first time in a few years!!

  • 282 Toon4Life // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:55 PM

To be fair I don’t think Dennis Wise has acctually done anything wrong, I guess he had some input into the very good signings we have had so far and even though I would be Horified if he was the next NUFC Manager, I think his role at the club could be a good one once the lines of communication are opened and the new system has some time to settle… As for Ashley well we don’t hear much from him and thats the problem, I think the Money is there for Kev but buying top players isn’t gonna be easy when your not playing in Europe.

Owens Contract should have been Sorted though, I would like to think that the new offer was better than his current contract and if it was then I don’t think he would turn it down.

Milner sale, sounds like good business to me sure we are short of numbers but he is never going to set the world on fire, he’s a bit hit and miss…

I’m disapointed that KK does not seem to know what is going on at the club half the time even though he seems to pretend to for the sake of the press and his own dignaty, and also that the media always use nufc as target practice for a scoop, I recon some of our deals were scubbered by the press reporting speculation guesswork that might have actually been true…

i don’t get all the fuss. we’re a side that almost got relegated last season, our aim this season cannot really be much more than top half if we’re realistic. we’ve got more points than we could have expected from the first few games after drawing against man utd. we’ve made some decent signings and only lost one significant player – and he went for a seriously inflated fee. they all want their heads knocking together, how about we pull in the same direction and just get on with things instead of everyone throwing their toys out of the pram every other week. all so pathetically predictable. why do we always, always, always eat ourselves

  • 295 Toon Chicken // Sep 2, 2008 at 12:56 PM

For everyone calling for Mike Ashley’s head…

He is not the chairman, he is not the chief negotiator, he is not the manager.

All he can do is provide funds for new players and all the evidence so far points to the fact that that is exactly what he has done.

We have tried and failed to sign a lot of big money players – that is not Mike Ashley’s fault.

KK is gone now and IMO it would never have happened if Joey Barton was not at the club.

If you’re going to vent your anger and frustration at anyone then Joey barton is your man.

What bunch of reactionaries. It’s good to see that some of you have got a grip.

First of all nothing has been confirmed, so stop crying in yer pints.

Second, if Keegan goes, it’s his decision and nobody else’s.

None of you know what the terms were when Keegan came back, so don’t start blaming Ashley. Keegan said that he wants what’s best for the club. If that’s the case, he should be sticking it out and continuing with what he’s started, not walking out the door.

In case none of you had noticed, Keegan has a habit of walking out on clubs when he doesn’t get his own way.

I was sceptical about his appointment this time around, but I’ve grown to trust in him again. If he walks, that will be for nothing. He owes the club the 3 and a half years he signed up for, and he needs to get his head sorted before we have Hull around in a couple of weeks.

Best this is a rumour, but if it’s not, I know where I will point the finger.

And for all you idiots saying “ASHLEY OUT”, you won’t get Ashley out without buying him out. Put up or shut up.

Heres my opinion, You all had sky sports on yesterday and got more and more jealous at the unfolding story at Man City, So now because we didn’t have any final deals going through in the dying minutes that means our squad is not big enough and Keegan is gonna leave! Spitting dummies is what babies do!

Suck up your jealousy and get behind the team!

  • 314 Michael12 // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:01 PM

Personally I have never been a fan of that talentless, tactic-less, King Kevin Keegan. This would be so typical of him to throw his dummy out of his pram when things get hard. Now before I receive volley after volley of abuse let me have my say:

Let us be frank here even if things have not always gone to plan, it does not justify leaving. The reason Ashley appointed Wise as a scout is because he knew Keegan’s lack Economics.

Throwing Money at a problem is not going to solve it. Milner’s Demand for more money is no different to that of Other players anywhere in the world. I we let every manager loose with the clubs’ cheque book, no doubt there will be over spending. We need a measure of control.

Like you I am a passionate fan who wishes Mike Ashley would spend more, but I have a grasp of my Economics and Keegan is doing it again, Needing to spend outrageous amounts of Money to go 12 points clear in the league only to lose it in two games. He needs Money to cover up his lack of managerial skills in Football and Being manager of England exposed him. With the national team you cannot simply buy a Brazillian, or a Frenchman; no you have what you have and must work with it, at club level you can spend.

On that note, there a many managers out there that are better than Keegan who is nothing more that a pub team manager / player. I do not hate Keegan, I just do not regard him highly in the managerial matrix

“No-one can blame Keegan for leaving” – I can…He’s paid millions each year to do a job! Just because things didn’t go perfectly doesn’t mean he has the right to spit the dummie and go! How many of you have complete control over your work? Do you decide to leave?

  • 352 Toony // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:13 PM

As usual the ignorant comments about removing the Board, removing the Owner etc are being made again. Who appoints the Board? Answer – the shareholder – Mike Ashley. Who can remove the shareholder? Answer – nobody. He only goes if he agrees to sell his shares – his decision. Will not paying at the gate cause him to sell? Answer – No it just makes the company worth slightly less.

All the fans can do is to encourage the owner to sell, but making the club less attractive to buy is not very helpful.

Anyway, it is not surprising there is a meeting the day after the transfer window. Let’s see what the outcome is. But it will not help anyone if KK leaves following a bust-up.

  • 353 Ian // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:14 PM

I am really suspicious that some people posting on here arent NUFC fans or have something to do with the board.

If Kevin Keegan goes IT IS BAD, if you think differently you do not know anything about football, the team is a flowing football type of team, the vast majority of managers do not play that type of football, so it will be hard for a manager to operate them effectively.

Ashley has hacked off two of the most respected managers in football, a good one unless jobless will not take the job.

Just because you were wrong and thought Ashley was a nice bloke who knew what he was doing is no reason to carry on down the wrong path.

The fans will probably not turn out in their usual numbers anyhow if Keegan isnt there, but not turning up at all would send a good message out to any would be owner, learn how to run a club before buying one or trust the running to an experienced chairman and manager.

This is atop club which could be ruined if keegan walks or is pushed, it is a disgrace.

They sold Milner without KKs authority, they tried to sell Barton against the managers wishes and wouldnt sign up Owen until after the window closes so it looks like he would have sold him too.

    Very professional.

Let us all hope Keegan is still in that meeting and that he continues to manage the club and Wise is booted out.

  • 373 Micky Toon // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:21 PM

I can’t be arsed with this anymore to be honest, no matter what is said people will still behave how they want to.

Facts are Keegan has spat his dummy out and has walked and left everyone else to pick up the pieces. I bet some of you are feeling pretty miffed right now and rightly so. The last thing we needed was for KK to leave. Remember Keegan chose to leave us, no one forced him out, he chose to leave us hanging without a manager without a leader and with out a replacement.
You might not like MA or the way he’s ran the club, but he has always backed Keegan and Keegan himself has said so.
Keegan has a reputation for leaving clubs in the lurch and he’s done it it us TWICE. Would you be so forgiving of a girlfriend who left you once because you wouldn’t spend money on here, but came back because you said she could have a nice watch? When you bought her a sekonda instead of a Rolex she leaves again? Would you think it was ok?
It’s childish and if Keegan was the great man, the great supporter the man who claims to know the club, the fans and the region so well, then why leave his legions in the shit?
Go out, get drunk and then wake up and realise the Keegan could have stayed, but HE CHOSE TO LEAVE US.

  • 397 Toon4Life // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:30 PM

I agree with an ealier post saying that a lot of you don’t have a clue what your talking about…

Wise has hardly said a word since arriving at the club, he has been given a job and he seems to be doing it pretty well…

Ashley well he isn’t talking much but I have seen no evidence that he has done anything bad to the club, on the contray he has reduced our wage bill, released some dead wood and pushed some money into our bank account that was in the Red…

Communication is the problem here, and I think thats what these meetings are all bout, this must be the 3rd one that I can remember and they started when Wise was appointed as there was a major break down in communication at that time…

As for another manager (PLEASE NO) I’m fed up of the merry go round of Managers at Newcastle, why we never stuck with Bobby Robson I will never know, I thought everyone went mad the day he was sacked…

What the club needs now is a period of Stability and not people rocking the boat and calling for peoples heads…

    GET A GRIP GUYS!!!

  • 398 Micky Toon // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:30 PM

Just to clarify I’m no fan of MA, I only go on the facts that are printed about the guy. Like I said, I’ve no loyalty to the owner, only to the CLUB.

Also riots because a manager has left?Pathetic. If that did happen then well done, you’ve just shown the southerners that we are the bunch of cave men they think we are.
We need to uphold the good name of NUFC and Newcastle City and show that Geordies are the thicko’s they think we are. Do not go to the ground, do not brick northumberland street. Stay calm get hammered and wake up tomorrow and start to think about how we go forward.
The best way is to show how much we love the club, shout the loudest you’ve ever shouted at the game, support the team like never before.

I’ll type in caps to get this across…

EVERYONE ON HERE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT NUFC OTHERWISE THERE WOULD BE NO ARGUMENTS ON HERE. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US NEEDS TO SHOW THE PL THAT WE ARE 110% BEHIND THE CLUB. DO NOT LET THE PRESS AND THE MACKEMS GET TO YOU. SUPPORT THE CLUB LIKE NEVER BEFORE.

And if you still feel the same about the board then by all means ask for their heads, ask for MA to leave. But do it when no one is looking.

  • 399 faustino // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:30 PM

keep the faith lads, reserve judgement until you no the facts i.e if kk is gone and why he left (if he does end up leaving)

  • 405 Mark-O // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:32 PM

Mickey Toon – How can you say that Ashley has supported Keegan? He sold Milner behind his back, When Keegan said he wanted 4 more signings after Colo, Jonas, Guthrie and Bassong we make 1 permanent deal and a loan deal that we have no chance of making permanent?

Its clear that Ashley is not willing to put up the cash for the OTHER big transfers that KK wants.

Im not gonna shout for his head or boycott the games, coz the last thing the team needs is a lack of support, its our club and the players deserve our support, but seriously what can we do to influence things at board room level?

  • 406 bear pit // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:32 PM

Sky news says its true he has walked. So I guess our next manager will be a certain short arsed cockney git who should never have been brought to the club in the first place. Barton hasnt helped matters neither. KK always does a runner when his feathers get ruffled so he is a quitter. So we’re back where we started, a top continental coach with a proven track record needed. Get rid of Wise and Barton. It is a worry we will become like Tottenham under Sugar, nice safe business, no big outgoings etc. MA has spent more than he bargained for buying the club and wont lash out on big signings, the club is in tatters. Sad day for the toon !!

    Angryman the….

How many games you go to does not measure whether you are fairweather or not i am afraid. For example, i do not attend as many games as others on here may each season, but this is purely down to circumstance. I live in the south and i am a student. I hardly have the funds or time to travel up to SJP every week do i. I attend away games when ever i possibly can and i support the team through thick and thin. Fairweathers are those who claim to support the team, yet disappear as soon as the going gets tough. This is what the majority on here clearly are. Anyway, like i said, i truly dont care if you stop going, its just one extra season ticket available to me for when i finish Uni and acquire a stable job. Cheers in advance

If it’s true (& it looks like it) that KK is gone then the fans should boycott the next game if we have a crowd of less than 10,000 v Hull it will make Ashley sit up and take notice.

Llambias then speaks and says Wise has left the club with mutral consent….

  • 457 AndyNUFC // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:49 PM

When people point out that Rozehnal, Emre etc covered for our transfers incoming (which they didn’t entirely at all), are people suggesting that we should have held onto all the players we released, just to have numbers in the team, and keep the high earning, no return players?

Or then, are people asking why we didn’t buy 20 players, just to have a big squad?

Keegan played it sensibly and bought players who wanted to play for us, if we really wanted loads of players i’m sure we could have bought them, but there’s no point buying for buying’s sake.

Either way, if we had have bought 20 players, or brought in a ridiculously big name like Robinho etc, people would not care one bit, regardless of whether the player’s wanted to play for us or not. However, nobody (and possibly even Keegan) can see that sort of spending just isn’t sustianable. I for one, heading into this economical/financial crisis, am bloody happy that we’ve brought in some top quality with minimal spending.

Nobody stops to think that we might finish 7th this season, and have money saved over to then buy these ‘trophy signings’ or a big load of cover.

All those who will not blame Keegan are delusional. The man is not professional if he walks out again. He did so in England (Who do you blame? the players, the FA?) He walked out at City (Who do you blame the fans, board??) he did so to use in the 1990’s (who do you blame the board, Mike Ashley perhaps in 1997) and he may do so now(who do you blame, the board, Frank Lampard?? Gordon Brown)

It Seems it is anyone elses fault but Keegan’s.

Get over him, he is not a good manager anyway, he needs 100 million to get a 12 point lead and lose it all in 1 game.

As a non-geordie am i regarded as not worthy then ?

  • 474 rooks // Sep 2, 2008 at 1:56 PM

obviously tensions are running high but lets wait and see. People can choose to respond to this in one of two ways – support NUFC WHATEVER the situation (eg getting behind thugs like Barton), others by voting with their feet (eg boycotting games, organised protest) in the hope that Ashley will sell up, with the club’s LONG TERM INTERESTS at heart. Both are valid and understandable. For sure if Keegan goes (has gone?) it will split the fans right down the middle.

For those who say get behind NUFC whatever the situation what is it exactly that you are getting behind – the players? the history ? manager? chairman? ground?. You seem to think that fan power can’t make a difference. I disagree. Personally I think Keegan has been lied to & betrayed by Asley / Wise / the board, though I coule be wrong. There are some tough choices to be made as a fan for sure – we may need to hurt the club to get rid of this rot – start again, new board, new manager, & inevitably players with a view to building it properly for the future. That need s to start with a chairman who loves the club, who is honest & who will also build upon a solid financial status.

well it seems more and more like this is true because its just been reported on CNN.com as a done deal.

I think this is a perfect example of the false promises us fans are forced to live off of. I respect Kevin and know that he had to do what was right and not back down to this inept board.

I see what is happening at Man City and I feel so envious. Their owner delivered on his first day what Ashley has been promising for a year. Where was that “wow” signing he promised? Fire Dennis Wise now! If he couldn’t cut it at Leeds why would Ashley think he could cut it in the premiership!?

It is my love for NUFC that keeps me rooting and watching every week because I swear it would be a hell of a lot easier to follow another team.

  • 506 ToonDaft // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:07 PM

This has been planned by Ashley – brings KK in half way through a transfer window leaving little time to spend money, then brings in Dennis Wise and his Merry Men, shocking KK. Ashley has spent almost nothing this summer in terms of net spend at least. In my opinion, Ashley has never planned on spending serious money, even though he most likely promised KK allsorts, but though how can I appease the Geordie faithful whilst spending nothing? Bring in a massive smoke-screen of King Kev but have Dennis Wise lined-up to replace him when he kicks off having realised the lies we have fed him. DISGRACE! ASHLEY MUST GO! WE DO NOT WANT YOU MAKING MUGS OF OUR HEROES AND OUT CLUB!

That’s the only reason I would jump on this particular band wagon.

  • 511 Toontitan // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:09 PM

If Keegan does go, it’ll be his loss….
We may have a small squad and haven’t brought in depth, but what we do have is better quality than before Ashley arrived. The problem is, he’s made a tit of himself on tv by saying 3-4 players are coming in, and the expectation was for a Wow signing – just because that doesn’t happen, doesn’t mean we are now a hopeless loss. If anyone expected a top 4 – 7 finish this year they are optimistic at best, deluded at worst. Mac City haven’t become world beaters overnight by signing Robiniho. Let the new guys settle in and see how the land lies at Xmas.

  • 527 Nomads // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:15 PM

Nothing wrong with KK leaving in my opinion. He has got a contract but he was probably promised more when he signed, now that things did’nt turn out as he expected, it is a breach on the board’s part so he doesn’t have to honour it.
To all those who are saying there is nothing to worry about and the team is stronger than last year, you are clearly deluded, it doesn’t matter how strong the team is this year but how strong it is in relation to others this year. If you had expected a mid to 3rd quarter table finish all along then I have nothing to say as it is achievable by the current squad, but I’m sure the majority were hoping for at least a push for the last european spot.
To those who think Keegan should stay and fight on and that walking out on the club is betraying the club, you will be the same people who will get on his back if the club struggles despite his best efforts in the future which is almost a certainty given the small squad size.
I do hope Keegan does not leave but if he does, it is clear that there are good reasons behind it and the blame should lie mainly on others rather than KK.

  • 528 JonnyToon // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:15 PM

Ashley you complete IDIOT. He’s obviously made Keegan several promises and failed to come through on nearly all of them. What a COMPLETE TIT. Am livid that this guy is now in charge of Newcastle.

  • 530 ToonRich // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:18 PM

Toontitan, Man City may not be world beaters overnight, but their squad has strength all the way through, where as we lack in some areas. Look how Kompany slotted in on his debut, then SWP goes home, and bangs a brace…they will be strong, and thats how we should be.

This is the same Wise who was despised as a player by all Newcastle Fans.

  • 537 The Vicar // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:21 PM

It’s a shame but it is necessary. When we got KK in everyone else was laughing at us. Sadly they were right.

Football management like the game itself is a team game. The idea that one man does it all is a joke. KK is fine as a figurehead, but as a manager … sorry to say this, he just doesn’t register.

I do not share KK’s views that the top 4 is out of reach. I do however think that to get to the top 4 is not about simply spending money. It has to be a whole lot more cerebral than that.

What do I want? I want the next Arsene Wenger – that’s what I want. Someone with brains and not simply someone who will just spend (MY) money.

What’s wrong with brains? We didn’t have them with the fat one, now perhaps there is a sign that we are going to get good signings as opposed to expensive signings.

  • 545 Micky Toon // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:23 PM

Has he been sacked or is it just another southern based story to turn the club upside down?
Keegan being sacked is rediculous and if true then MA has just made the biggest error of his life. You all know I’m now KK fan, but sacking KK is a mistake. He has done no wrong.
What is it with NUFC and sacking managers in September? We seem to do it every year.
IMHO KK was not the right man to take us forward, but I was willing to have him prove me wrong.
If it is true then MA better have someone like Morhinio lined up otherwise we are finished.

Steve Bruce will be the next NUFC manager. Breaking news brought to you by Micky Toon.

The club needs to make a statement NOW. If KK left by mutual consent then he was sacked and MA was wasting his time in the stands as he hasn’t a clue about the feeling towards Keegan.

  • 546 Ian // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Wise has got what he wanted, everyone warned Ashley that there would be a power struggle but no he said there wouldnt be any such problem.

We are left with the rubbish including Ashley, Vetere the exception, Wise has got his premiership management job.

The only way to hurt Ashley is to not go to a few games and let him pay for them, hurt him in the pocket and he will take notice.

Trust us to get a smartar**d k**b of an owner.

everyone. we are all in this together. we want the best for our club. we had the manager there who was the one who could take us where we wanted it to go, but we had people upstairs who do not care less. does not matter if we are live in newcastle, sunderland, durham, manchester, liverpool, london or in a card board box, we love newcastle and we want the best at our club. am absolutely livid with our board. bunch of no hopers. ave’nt a clue about football matters.

I am a Geordie born & bred moved down south when I was 33 due to work 27 years ago. Living down south doesn’t mean I don’t support the Toon any less than someone who lives there. In fact it is harder as we ex pats have the p*ss taken out of us by all the southeners and have to put up with it when things like this happen. I’ll be down watching a local game tonight and will have to put up with the p*ss taking ther and in the bar afterwards. At least if you live in the Toon everyone is on your side.

  • 614 Hobs // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:45 PM

I think this is what happened yesterday:

-We got an offer for Barton

-Ashley accepted it immediately above the head of Keegan, to get money for a player he would like to sack, and maybe thinking it would be easyer to recruit other sought after players when Joey was no longer at the club

-Keegan was against selling Barton du to the lack of numbers in the squad

-There was a disagreement, and this disturbed our dealings in the transfer market. Ashley may have told Keegan he would get certain players only if Barton left.

-Ashley and Keegan had an argument during the night, ending with Keegan’s decision to resign at the lack of cooperation with the board.

-Ashley is now trying to convince Keegan to stay.

Note that there has been absolutely no communication out of the club the last 24 hours, exept a presentation of the new signings. Keegan has said nothing, and has not participated in any pictures with the new signings. Very unlike him.

I think Keegan will be persuaded to stay in the job. If he does, I think there will be some big changes is the club’s administration. Something is definately not working right on board level after Chris Mort left.

  • 615 dave v // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:46 PM

Ashley sell to the Arabs, you know it makes sense, you walk away with a profit and the supporters get a real team.
Hell man you can even say this was your plan all along, you must know that if KK has walked or been sacked you will find it very difficult nay impossible to mix with the ordinary supporters.
If I was you I would be on the first jet to the middle east looking for a big takeover.

    Breaking News:

Mike Ashley has sacked and instantly reappointed Kevin Keegan as manager of Newcastle United after placing the £12 million he received from the sale of James Milner to Aston Villa on Keegan to be the first premiership boss to lose his job at odds of 8/1. He placed the bet at midnight last night, which saw the crash in Keegans odds this morning and the subsequent removal of the betting market on this topic. As a result, Ashley has gained £96 million, all of which he has promised to Keegan to spend on new players in the January transfer window”

One day we will look back on the last 11 years (from Dagliesh onwards) and be able to laugh at this.

Maybe it will take another 11 years to forget the pain of being a toon supporter.

We used to be everyones second club in the Keegan years. Now we are a laughing stock.

If he stays, if he goes, what is the difference. We have been underachievers in the spotlight for over a decade and most other fans just pity us now.

Fat Arseley should go, no improvement over fat shepherd. Lying about a WOW signing…. Xisco and Nacho are hardly what i’d call WOW signings.

If they ARE the WOW signings Arseley’s talking about, he clearly does not know or understand the toon army and their expectations.

If they are NOT the WOW signings he was referring to then Dennis Wise and his cronies have failed and should be sacked – not King Kev!!!

At least there’s a very good chance that Joey will be told to leave now that KK’s not there to stick up for him. Thanks for all you’ve done for us KK and wishing you all the best.

  • 637 James // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:55 PM

According to Sentanta. Ashley told the board last night to sell Owen and Barton regardless of what KK wants.

KK kicked off and Ashley sacked him this morning.

  • 638 laurent32 // Sep 2, 2008 at 2:56 PM

bad day for newcastle fans. i can confirm keegan has not been sacked but has walked. the main reason being that he was told by wise that he had 3 players signed and that was the main reason he let milner go. turns outs those players were not signed and didnt get signed. the only 2 we got kk already knew about and were not included in the 3 he was told about. another factor that added to the situation was keegans refusal to sell barton and ashley was not happy about recent press coverage that players had turned us down because of barton being in the squad.
after the window closed kk went mad after finding out those 3 players were not signed and they had a very heated meeting after which it was decided keegan would walk.
i have this information on very good authority from a member of terry macs close family. i was actually told about this late last night but didnt believe it until i saw the news this morning.

really upset about it to be honest and if theres any form of protest outside st james’ over the next couple of days i will most certainly be there.

Being a Newcastle fan sure is an emotional rollercoaster from the highs of signing Guttierez and Collocini, the performance at Old trafford to the low point at Arsenal and then a slight rise to the mediums of yesterdays transfers (I like both but it can only be described at best as medium). Then to the lows of today (although its not confirmed it looks inevitable).

Knew when we were signing the likes of Xisco and co it was down to the ‘three wise men’ and surprise, surprise it seems the case. Ashley came out in the nufc magazine and said keegan had the final say on transfers but it seems that he blatantly meant that “u have these options that wise and jiminez have picked and if you dont like them then u aint getting any” my patience starting to wear very thin with those at the top and would not have a clue who would want this kind of job. certainly shearer wouldnt put up with it. and if wise gets it then expect attendances to lower and lower… a very sad day.

    I can’t believe this.

I’ve been defending MA for weeks on this site.

    And he’s sacked KK.

I’ve backed him for months because he brought KK in and seemed to be backing him financially.

But he’s sacked Keegan. You don’t sack Keegan. You don’t sack Robson.

What is it with Newcastle Chairmen!?

Sorry Mike. We gave you a chance. You hired KK. But it was obviously a PR stunt and I fell for it.

Never again. Ashley’s got to go.

  • 691 Phil,Gosforth // Sep 2, 2008 at 3:23 PM

Only KK and MA know how much he was told he was gonna have to spend. When we were took over by a “billionaire” EVERYONE expected us to splash some cash but we are always looking to save money (except the waste of £60k on Smith and the waste of £60k on hated and frankly fkin average Barton).
Only KK and MA know exactly how the club is run.

IF IT AIN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR KK,THEN IT AIN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME,THAT’S FOR FKIN SURE..

Micky toon — are you a cockney in disguise?

If you got a job diggin a tunnel, were promised big machinery to do it,then given a fkin spade, wouldn’t you be pizzed off enough to jack it in?

  • 692 craigthaitoon // Sep 2, 2008 at 3:23 PM

If hes been sacked i lose a lot respect for ashley, if he’s walked i lose ALL respect for Keegan. But ill be in the gallowgate for Hull – and i’m in Thailand! Bottom line is i support NUFC and NUFC have a decent crowd of players (not a big crowd mind).

If Keegan has walked thats not on – clearly hes paid to manage the team and ill bet money thats what he was told when he joined “not what it was in the brochure” bullsh*t! Keegan knew what this was.

However if Keegan was sacked thats also not on – he’s done well so far and if this is the case ill be singing his name for 90mins a week on sat!

Either way the board should not be forced out that kind of upheaval would near destroy the club. People forget, no matter what they think of MA, Newcastle United is at his mercy – its his club and if he wants to sell the ground to barretts and move the team to Sunderland he’s quite within his rights.

If wise is in charge come hull then the king is dead, long live the (dwarf) king.

I saw the wee headline earlier, I almost fell off my chair. But didn’t get a chance to reply so..a little late but..anyway..

Are they taking the piss..What should we do, turn up for the next game and boo the shit of the board, but that would mean them getting or money, or don’t show up, but that would be stingy on the players who are as much victim here as any of us and Keegan..or do nothing at all.
I can’t believe this like if it’s true. I said that Keegan didn’t like they were running the place, he wasn’t given enough money, he wasn’t signing the players he wanted to sign, the Owen situation wasn’t been dealt with. Nothing was going for him.
But what does dumb and dumber think will happen now, because, well the players love Keegan, the fans love Keegan..with a passion. They could, sorry will, have an uprising on their hands.
It’s the biggest piece of shit I’ve heard though in a long time.

He was also unincluded in most of the transfer activities ( How are you ment to manage a team when you don’t choose the players?)

  • 736 SwedEric // Sep 2, 2008 at 3:56 PM

Sick of this. But if it was this horrible then why have a meeting and say it was a great meeting?!

And I don´t for one sec think it´s the money. KK knows what happens behind the sceens, and if a manager doesn´t get big buck, and leaves because of that… Look at Bolton, Everton, they can do as good as possible, the manager wont buy a defender for 10M anyway… DOn´t for one sec think KK is as daft anf would walk out because he wants more transfermoney…

If it´s because he doesn´t think he is running the club, but Wise and them, then it´s bad. But is the solution to leave Newcastle without a manager? Not the best for the club, that´s for sure!

What manager wants to take over us now, when they se manager get sacked all the time, and when they dont get fired, the walk out…

God hopes this is just bs!

Ok we don´t have a big squad, but the squad we have can put out a starting 11 with pure quality all over the place! Just get it sorted out good with what you have KK, and I know good players will want to come, and Ashley will show the money!

A new manager now and we are doomed to be bottom half!

If this really has happened, then Ashley really is a complete muppet who is completely out of touch with the area and football altogether. And that is the first time I’ve ever said anything negative towards the man – Or the higher management..

I knew Keegan was only short term to revive the club. Thought we’d get 2-3 years at most, but this is just sickening – Especially if it is down to him having little control over transers..

Hopefully Keegan will dish the dirt..

    All:

Your official version to be announced in the next few hours.

Newcastle United had accepted an offer of significant investment into the club from Adhu Dhabi United Group.

As this developed through August a number of high profile world stars were lined up to sign for NUFC.

These signings were to be a statement of intent one of which is the now known about Robinho deal for Man City.

Kevin stated he did not want players motivated by money at the team he wanted a team with heart and soul. Mike Ashley supported Keegan and attempted to still bring in the investment. The ADUG thereon insisted on Keegans departure prior to investing.

The deal fell apart at the last minute because of Kevins caring stance that players must care for the club and want to play football.

Events of the investment in Manchester City now show you the ramifications of that decision not to sack Keegan. The money at the 11th hour was invested into MC and therefore this has caused huge difficulty for all.

The board are currently in discussions about resolutions to a number of issues. more later

  • 772 The Second Coming // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:24 PM

Gutted and totally disillusioned. My support and backing goes to Keegan over Wise.

Ashley, you’ve f***ed up big time!

  • 773 xfer // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:24 PM

WTF!!! I went to soccernet to see if we had new transfer after the deadline, not this headline!

Dont even want to think about it. Granted, the last day hasnt been as much as what many expected, but still that is a decent squad to work with.

With KK, we cannot go much wrong! Come on MA!!! Use your brain for a FU**ING second!

marcelino manages zaragoza, farrington from the sunday sun metioned him as a possible manager a few months ago and the spanish football pundit on sky mentioned him before as well, he’s known for bringing through youth players and is highly thought of in spain

I’m getting sick of this now. All we want is the truth about what has happened.

  • 776 Fergie // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:34 PM

I think we should hire David Blunkett. Knows nowt about football but at least he can hold onto a lead.

  • 777 Born Again Geordie // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:35 PM

@ bear pit – anal oliver is a complete and utter mackem tw*t !!!!

  • 778 toonoot // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:35 PM

Well, well, well. The Ed Harrison blog hit rate goes through the roof again. The more hits, the more likely someone opens one of those stupid adverts and buys something. This is a total con. KK still works for NUFC plc. The Daily Mail still sucks. Don’t do the work for these rumour mongers

‘Ashley, you’ve f***ed up big time!’

    I think sums everything up

  • 780 Len // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:37 PM

Ton Lokhoff has stated he would be interested in the Newcastle job, personally I would be happy with him over Wise anyday.

  • 781 idontbelieveit // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:40 PM

The only funny side I can see is the thought of the poison dwarf trying to cockney his way though his first press conference. And his eyes are too close together, you should never trust someone with eyes too close together.

It doesn’t need to be said that i will continue to attend – but why not wear black as a sign of mourning and protest?

Ton Lokhoff has stated an interest in being Newcastle’s next manager on a dutch radio station.

  • 786 Gallowgate31 // Sep 2, 2008 at 4:45 PM

Gutted but I think its simple……..

KK was promised a lot of cash.

MA found the true extent of debt ( good business man eh ! )

KK was then told there was no money but hey don’t tell the fans.

KK tries to toe the line to save face for himself and MA.

MA reckons that KK’s top targets are in the bag because DW is a genius !

turns out DW is not a genius and we all stayed up and got drunk for nowt last night.

This morning KK does his nut with MA……………. not one of his targets signed but MA happy with his wallet in tact………

Bet you right now that MA is desperatley trying to keep KK as it is now shown to the world that us fans will not put up with this !
