Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzalez Signing Confirmed

After the close of the summer transfer deadline lat night, Newcastle United announced formally they had completed a season-long loan deal to bring 26 year-old Uruguayan international Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzalez to St. James’ Park. As we reported earlier today.

Ignacio Gonzalez – here on a one year loan deal

The 26-year-old signed for La Liga club, Valencia, this summer from Montevideo-based club Danubio, where he made his professional debut in 2002, and previously had been his only club.

The midfield star, who has been likened to Germany’s Michael Ballack, won the Uruguayan Premier Division title in 2004 and 2007 before moving to French side AS Monaco on loan last season.

Nacho has 15 caps got his country Uruguay, and he will be away on World Cup duty until the middle of next week.

We needed another central midfielder. that’s for sure, so we think he could be a sensible and good signing for the club, and if he lives up to expectations, we assume we have first option on the player next summer.

We had hoped that Norwegian 21 year-old and Newcastle United supporter Per Ciljan Skjelbred, from Rosenborg,  would have been brought into the club, but that didn’t happen, although we believe January may see Newcastle bring more players into the fold.

Gonzalez was the second player announced by the club, and it fills another hole in our line up – central midfield.

What do you think?

Let us know – comments and opinions are very welcome.

Although I’m really pleased about Nacho I’m gutted it’s a loan and gutted at such an anti-climax to the night.

Just what is Ashley playing at? Downing a pint in one on live TV just before KK sends our resident scumbag on for a meaningless 5 minutes…5 minutes that was certain to provide about 5 days of more ugly Barton headlines! What was that all about KK? Obviously in my mind, I see it as KK having a dig at Ashley for not getting him any new players. Not the way to do things KK!!

Mike Ashley, Billionaire???? Obviously that’s not in cash then.

All we have heard is shit about debt and trying to steady the ship…..bollocks Mike! And if you really expect me to believe you sepnt 7 million on that spanish striker you are having a laugh….wow signing? You’re too right it’s a WOW signing Mike, like Wow, what the is this, that kind of wow!

You’re a joke Mike Ashley, and NUFC isn’t a board game. You can’t mix with the big boys in the Premier League with nothing but a pocketfull of peanuts.

Keegan you told us to trust you and of course we did….you made it clear it was your call to sell Milner………….over to you.

Since when does 4-5 irons in the fire mean 4-5 players. Maybe that’s an English interpretation of that expression. Defo doesn’t mean that in the States. We got 2, those were probably the advanced ones KK was on about. Perhaps we’ll hear about another 1 later today. If not, oh well. It was the best we could do. KK was very clear that he didn’t just want to sign every League 1 wannabe in the world because we needed bodies. He wanted to sign the right players, not just anybody off the street. It seems that he signed as many of these sorts of players as he could. Good business. I’m glad it’s over because I’m sick to death of all of the crying, doom and gloom.

Last time we were told the there would be a major “WOW” signin it was put differently and then Rooney signed for Man United and that was after a 5th place finish, we cant attract the top stars at the moment. Big Deal do everton, Portsmouth and Blackburn have Big Stars NO! I dont want to be like the Suds and Citeh i want KK build a legacy that Sir Bob should of been aloud to build!

I only have 1 complaint and that is that we need urgently to sign a young DM! or tell Butt that he cant go forward and sit wth the 2 centre backs and let the full backs go forward, he has lost his legs he should only be allowed to go 10 yards in front of the half way line!!
The fitess of te team has looed better than last year,we have a good team but we do need to start blooding the youngsters asap and bring them on with their game.
I strongly believe that yes their is a power shift with Man u, chelsea, Man C, Tottenham able to spend big, liverpool still spending but arsenal are the model we are trying to emulate, buying young bringing on the youth’s game and selling at a profit! Getting diamonds for al our work and making a young strong squad capable of challenging for honours. At least we have money for January if we are struggling!!!
    Ins
    Guthrie – £3mill
    Spiderman – £4mill
    Coloccini – 10.4 mill
    Bassong – £2.5 mill
    Gonzalos – Loan
    Xisco – £5mill??
    Outgoings
Milner – £12 mill hahaha still find that funny!
    Emre – £2mill
    Rozenhal – £2.9mill
    Faye – £2.5mill

£25 mill spent and and £19.4 recouped so to only spend £5.6 mill for this lot is Great Business and thats what MA is treating us like. We will build a great football club but it will take time. We need to forget last year as Fat Sam was not ashleys man! Keegan is and everything will come good!

the man is complaining about wages, yet is paying wise a reported 4/5 million a year, considerably more than bojan krkic the head scout at barcelona, and eusebio, how does that add up my fellow supporters?

i say support the toon to the death, i bleed black and white
cheer the players we have until you’re sore in the throat, make st james’s the fortress it deserves to be, for me, you, and the players proud enough to pull on the shirt, even joey, the barsteward he may be in public, but boo the backroom staff
why buy a premier league club and have aspirations of top four id you wont fund it to that extent
go back to london ashley and sell us to someone who cares….is the finnish steel consortium/shearer still interested?

to be honest we all knew that we were going to be let down with signings. fair play to getting these two in and im not saying they will be bad we will have to wait and see but when you have everton and hull beating us to players because we act to slow it really makes me wonder what dennis wise and his team actually do.

if you watch skysports as i did u saw alex ferguson shaking hands with berbatov and it makes you wonder what is so bad in letting our manager do the job he did so well the last time. he bought players like ginola asprilla albert and made them into stars for us. he was the reason shearer and ferdinand came as well so whats the problem in letting the guy do his job. i just cant see either of these players doing a better job than milner was doing he was out most consistent performer apart from beye and given last year. i like ashley but i think hes lost really he should take control of the club himself and let keegan and his team do what he did so well the last time. and i bet u dennis wise and that lot are all on better wages than keegan and then milner had to leave because we wouldnt give him a pay rise absolute madness!

lets just hope we dont carry on with this injury problem that plagues our club every single year if not losing huitterez or martins and duff staying out longer will kill us

i’m pissed off. ashley and co had 2 months to sign quality players and they rush two in on the final day of the window. thats amatuerish. so much for the ‘wow’ signing, why promise one when you can’t deliver. i hope ashley gets assaulted at the next match he visits – he deserves it. look at how we’ve been left in the wake of man city and tottenham with regard to transfers. and trust me, their expenditure WILL pay off. pathetic and thoroughly dissapointing deadline day.

i’m sorry but if you sell milner youv’e got to have a ready right wing replacement and no GEREMI is not one i’m afraid, neither is barton. go to hell ashley.

We certainly need an attacking midfielder, but whether he is better than our other options (remind me what they are again) is to be seen.

Over all, I find it disappointing that the Club has failed in the transfer market, and by any fair assessment it has let the manager and the supporters down. It’s extraordinary that with such a small squad we have let more go (9 from first team) than we have brought in (4 for first team) and we have taken almost as much money (17m) on transfers than we have spent (17m + Jonas?).

Having said that – the players in look good, Jonas is lion hearted, Coloccini look class, Guthrie can be a raesonable DM and hopefully Nancho can be a good AM. We certainly need another target man and Xisco hopefully will fit the bill as a replacement or fill in for the brittle Dukes. H’way the lads.

i’m not disappointed with who we’ve brought in, only time will tell because i’ve never seen them play. i’m maybe slightly nervous, but disappointed would be wrong i think.
what i AM disappointed about is the lack of numbers. we needed cover at lb, and 1 or two midfielders, havent got them
i thought that nacho fella was an all out AM with a bit of flair, then i see he’s been likened to michael ballack, not what i was expecting.

    or did i miss it?

I was pretty sure he said unless it’s in the chronicle as an exclusive with quotes, or on nufc.co.uk then don’t believe it! it’s paper talk!

perhaps we will announce owen signing a new deal in the morning, that would be good enough for me…

and hopefully a suprise signing, but i doubt it!

I’m happy with the quality of players we’ve brought in so far.. hopefully the two we got last night will be of the same calibre. Milner is not worth near 12m and faye was ok, no big loss. I expect KK will start to blood some of our future stars this season.

If the Norska lad is a toon fan he’ll come later if we still want him i think- january perhaps if it seems needed.

Not convinced we have an option to buy this ‘nacho’ fella at the end of the loan, or it would of been stated by both clubs.

possibly if valencia want to sell him, we’ll have first refusal in the deal like you said ed, but that just makes 2 scenarios really:

    1) he doesn’t do well, so valencia take him back or ship him out, we refuse (first!) because we’ll he didn’t do well??

    2) he does really well for us on loan and valencia take back a good player who has just had further experience in the pl, and is now worth more to the club? we could possibly make an offer at this point, but if they want to keep him it would have to be an inflated one! and if he does really well anyways they’d be other pl teams in for him then too,

like tottenham, they like having 50 midfielders and city don’t mind spending big now!

shame with the time, resources and expensive scouting structure we have at the club, we couldn’t get a more permanent deal done with the right player????????/

dunno him, never seen him play, but if valencia picks him he must somehow know how to play half decent footie. at 26 he hasnt got many yrs to squander so can’t imagine Che signed him just for potential transfer profit in the future. if he’s 75% good as a fit Ballack or anyone in their midfield it’s a steal. dont care if it’s just a loan or the first option stuff. lets see if how he plays first. afterall one is better than none mates.

barring one milner none of them would have got the place in starting 11 and faye would have been in sub
we lost only 1 starter and 1 sub

    ins

    guti
    guthrie
    bassong
    colo
    nacho
    and xisco

here we have 4 sure starters and xisco pushing for starters and bassong a good enough sub

so if it needs a player who really doesnt need to sig for you but only wants to come here for money or his former team rejects hm for guys out here to be a fan, then bring back fat freddy and his days
mike looks better then fat freddy
and we need to take one step at a time coz, it would be really unsettling if we bring 10-11 new faces in two months, we need to being correct no. of players for a period of time……….

So bad that Man city and Spurs sign big (at least one big name) and we have no one like that.

A big name is always good, and we had the money, and if its not good, its sure better to try to sign one like that (there are enough out there) to make the aquad feel good, and of course the fans.

And the worse thing is that all the KK and MA talks were just talks, thats my big problem with the team now… talks and nothing is done.

A loan deal is dissapointing. The only reason a team would loan a player is if they’re not good enough for their first team but may have the potential to do well going forward. We’re paying the guy’s wages, training them, yet we get no upside if he plays well.

On the other hand, if we really believed Nacho was a budding world class midfielder that we’d build our team around, then why loan him? Why not buy?

Finally, if there was a clause detailing we could buy him at the end of the year, thats good news and NUFC should disclose that. So either no clause or a ridiculous price…

I’m extremely dissapointed that we’re reverting to last minute stop gap solutions.

And to think we were trying to challenge the top 4 with an attacking midfielder of Guthrie or Nacho is worrying as they’re the engine of our team. Our forwards require great service to score (excluding Martins, who can create his own chances) and without a creative & strong AM / CM we don’t really stand a chance.

what a joke. Ashley talks about wow signings and bringing us up to a level where we compete with bigger clubs but the truth is its all lies.

how can we compete with clubs if we sell our best players to them (i.e. Milner).

im fed of getting taken for a ride by this Ashley regime which is as useless as a dry weetabix in the sahara.

Man City have owners with ambition, they have hardly been in charge for 24 hours and have already cracked the transfer record, and signed an amazing brazilian attacker.

our owner has been in charge for 1 year and has probably sold more than we have bought.

Apparently NUFC were in advanced talks with the Abu Dhabi group (those who just bought man city and signed Robinho for 32.5) over a buyout but fat Mike tried to squeeze them for an extra 30 mill at the 11th hour to clear his enormous gambling debt. Still think he is a sensible guy who is trying to rebuild the club gradually?

Reckon we are all just his cash cows. IS HE a billionaire or what??
