The official Newcastle United web site confirmed 15 minutes past the midnight deadline this morning, that they have indeed completed the signing of exciting Spanish Under-21 striker Francisco “Xisco” Jimenez Tejada.
22 year-old Xisco – signed 5 year deal with Magpies
We reported the deal had been announced by his club Deportivo earlier today.
The 22-year-old has apparently signed a five-year deal at St. James’ Park and joins from La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna, the club we recently brought the great Fabricio Coloccini from.
The club is saying that Xisco will now wear the No.19 shirt, and the Mallorcan-born, speedy striker made his Deportivo debut at the end of the 2004/2005 season and was loaned out to UC Vecindario in 2006/2007 where he scored 13 times in 27 outings for the Spanish Second Division side.
The official site is also reporting that Xisco will link up with his under-21 colleagues, ahead of their European qualifier in Kazakhstan this coming weekend.
This, we feel, is a great signing for the club, and probably means that injury prone and highly paid Mark Viduka is in his last season at the club.
We wanted a young tall striker in, and this is the boy, although re had expected it to be 20 year-old Swiss striker Eren Derdiyok.
Let us know what you think of this signing.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41when we get someone like xisco who is good in the year (and terrific in my fm game for newcastle), we may not really need an out and out AM like aimar. we can work down the wings and we have a really good winger in spidey, to cross the balls in for either xisco to head it towards goal or down for oba or owen. it’s gonna be good believe me (:

Comment #42Happy with the team we have, could have had prob two more sighning but happy. Every single player is quality, unlike previous years where we had players collecting pay checks on the treatment table. Dont judge the team against teams like Arsenal, we are not at that level yet. that would be a foolish view and very short sighted analysis.
i suggest keep an eye on Man City and Sunderland cuz i dont think there gonna finish above us. they have taken our old role of getting greedy players in.

Comment #43i think xisco will solve our targetman issues which we really needed because viduka is always injured but he already pass his prime….
the nacho guy is the attacking midfielder we needed with guthrie playing next to him.
overall i m quite dissapointing but on the BRIGHTSIDE keegan trust in our youngster such as kadar, lua lua, edgar to cover the first eleven squad whenever injured….
not a top 10 finish this year. might happy if we avoid relegation AGAIN.

Comment #45Not convinced we have enough cover, in Central defence, well cover that’s got enough experience to ply in the pl week in week out, i feel it may be a little early for bassong consistantly and edgars hardly class.
also if ‘nacho’ isn’t a CM than were short there, as butt, and guthrie (who should be one for the future really) are not creative enough and barton will be banned, and never be the player he was again anyways.
still were looking alot better on and off the oitch (meaning squad, owner and finances) than we have been in a while!!!

Comment #46I know the great man KK promised to not just bring in anybody, quality only he said, but i’m not convinced this Xisco lad is just that??
seems we needed to get someone, and it might of been (dare i say it) a bit of a panic buy?
if he’s a great prospect how come know one else was in for him? alot of other pl teams were in the market for strikers?
i know maybe it’s because of the extra edge we have with our great scouting team huh lol!
or perhaps collociniwas our scout on this one and said the player was decent?

Comment #47Cheers Newcastle, i just love being lied to for 2 months!!! 3 players in for sure before milner left, then we only let him leave becouse we had something that would make it seem ok on monday night, so 4 signings minimum. What do we get? 1 unheard of under 21, and 1 loan signing whos played 5 games of top flight football (even then it was in the french league). Best get used to the bottom half lads, becouse thats our home this season. Just praying for 11th.

Comment #49not a bad signing but not enough.feel sick after all the players linked with all summer we only get 2 more in and one if them a loan.whers the left back?creative and a holding midfielder?skielbred fellani, inler where all out there to be got.butt and guthrie not strong or creative enough for us.we sell milner and then only half that put into team, this has proved keegan has no say and was brought back to sell season tickets for owners so they can try spend little and make profit when sell club,we have brought in good signings but not enough and with a few more injuries will be long season.what has wise being doing?that little shit has too much say at newcastle.we have ashley in with the fans with his jersey on but wont back the manager,if he was really supporting team and having fun he would get out there and gives us more, wheres his wow signing?i can see keegan walking out as he must have been promised more to come back,he asked to be judged after midnight when he sold milner but wheres the 4 players we badly needed, arsenal match showed this.did he pick any of these players or is he just being giving them, dont think he has much say at all.we have a billionaire owner but have spent about 5 or 10 million when you consider players sold, even hull spent more, dont feel too optimistic for season with so many clubs strenghting more.annoying that group who bought man city and where linked with us till ashley wanted too much give city 35 million for a wow signing on their 1st day.im going back to bed now to dream what could have been and what terrible things id like to see happen to moonhead wise

Comment #50Why is it that if we don’t get players that it’s KK et al’s fault. KK has stated many times that he doesn’t just want to bring in tossers like Chimbonda and other mercs who won’t improve the squad. He’s made that abundantly clear. That said, if we go for our targets and the player or his club say “sod off” or negotiations break down for one reason or another then that’s makes the staff a pack of liars? That’s a load of shite and you lot who are slagging them off know. You’re just upset that your ridiculous fantasies of the Huntalaar, Villa, and Berba didn’t pan out. We can hardly offer the top players what they want. The only thing we can give players like that is ridiculous salaries that will put us right back where we were with FFS… in massive debt. So, we’re forced to scour Europe for the lesser knows and take advantage of our knowledge of various areas to turn up players that other English clubs have overlooked. Even then it’s not easy as there’s a tremendous amount of competition for excellent players.
I so glad this bloody window is closed ’cause I’m sick of the endless whinging and accusations.

Comment #51Not disappointed about a signature signing.
But we have to face facts we are bare in several positions that should have been addressed;
Cover in DM for Butt (I don’t see Guthrie as combative like Nicky), RB and LB we have omly one recognised in each. Benitez called out 3 good fullbacks on the left and 3 more on the right and said that topped off his squad, at Centreback, I’ve no faith in Cacapa. We did need and have got one each at AM and a big striker. but our squad is like Grandad’s Vest – full of holes.
How is it Valencia are still snapping up decent players like Nacho, even though they’ve already got plenty? They probably don’t have anything like Newcastle’s money but still manage fine.

Comment #53Inler wanted to stay at Udinese. Skielbred just signed a new contract and if we ever wanted him (which is quite questionable) Rosenborg didn’t want to let go of him without a ridiculous fee or he wanted in on the NUFC gravy train of seasons past.
Since none of us know a damn thing about what’s going on within the club (for obvious reasons) it’s absurd to go on and on about KK’s players being sold out from under him. That’s ridiculous. We got a silly bid from Villa. Milner doesn’t factor into KK’s plans. How many times did he play for KK at the end of the season? Yeah, he had a knock at Villa, but he didn’t force Geremi out now did he.
To say that Wise has too little or too much say at NUFC is ridiculous. Do you sit in on meetings. Are you a fly on the wall in the boardroom? You know nowt, like the rest of us. The club has made it abundantly clear that Wise is in charge of the academy, not first team recruitment. Why the hell would he be involved in picking players for the manager. That doesn’t make any sense.

Comment #54Happy enough! Lots of good players in, Colo, Jonas, Guthrie and Bassong, + Xisco looks allright – height, pace, directness. Nacho, I really don’t know anything about. Slowly and surely this club is moving forward. I would’nt want Ashley/ Keegan to buy a whole new starting-11. U don’t buy all the furnitures for your new house, u buy some and see if it fits. I didn’t know what to expect with Guthrie, Jonas & Bassong, but they’re starting to shine allready. Maybe Xisco is just WOW enough for me:) Howay, keep the faith! Top 7 here we come…

Comment #55Xisco did get picked with the #1 goal of Depor’s 07/08 season on a youtube. Frankly it wasn’t that great, but it was a nice finish. It will be interesting to see how he does in the PL. Can’t be worse than Strolla.
KK obviously rates him. For now that’s good enough for me.

Comment #57well … 13 goals in 27 outings in second division for a 22 yr old (and i read somewhere that he didnt always play full 90 mins) and a Spanish U21 int’l – aint too bad at all! if MA can spend the same $ for derdiyok, who is supposedly available, but instead signs this lad we can only assume that he’s at least as good. how many of us knows a lot abt Eduardo or Bendtner or Vela before they became gunners?

Comment #58i strongly support you david bullman
after all the promises at least we expect adequate cover and replacement for the team
as for me i never expect the so call wow signing coz we know where we are but at least MA & Co shuld take into consideration about our injury prone players
-8 out
-at least 3 (vid, owen, carrol) are injury prone
-several not team player (smith, ameobi)
yes, i do agree with the quality of so far our 4 signing (exclude nacho and xisco) but we do need cover and legs!!
before the windows close all of us keep saying, MA will be judge by the signing but then now once it is closed, we the fan again, keep praising MA for all the history that he have done for the past one year!
we shuld be looking forward!!!

Comment #60feel angry and frustrated, ya know when ya fall out with someone and ya toss and turn in bed and cant sleep cos your so angry and dissapointed, that was me last night and how i feel about ashley and co. feel sorry for kevin, sorry for the fans, yes i think the club is being ran more efficiently, but kevin in his own words said he has “7 and a half players” now we have an under 21 unproven, and some otha spanish reject, milner left and kevin told us to “trust” him, im trying to think positive but im not gona lie, im not optimistic about this season at all, it was very clear after the arsenal game that we needed real quality strenghening in the starting 11 not to mention the rest of the squad, sorry but i just feel lied to and cheated!!!

Comment #61why so many negative comments? U guys are ungrateful!!!!!!! our lineup is better than what we have last since bobby robson era!!!!!!!!!
fans like u destroy the team, u should instead support the lads! if we trying to emulate arsenal like all u guys wanted, we wouldnt have spend silly money and we DIDNT! i rather we build slowly like aston villa (martin o neil didnt spend too much on first year, 2nd a bit now 3rd year steadily he builds) and even heck everton! thats a good model to emulate dont u think?
about the WOW signing well thats paper talk not at nufc.co.uk right? u guys dont trust the papers yet u guys believe what u guys want to believe, and yes im a bit dissapointed we didnt sign a LB but i think we are covered until january right?
NONSENSE BS! be ashamed, be very ASHAMED if your a toon army and still wanted to sack MA or heck KK?! im lost of words no wonder people label us negatively

Comment #64I like the look of who we brought in but what a truly terrible few months its been and a bit underwhelming.Mostly for the fact that the papers had us linked with 1,000,000 players and also that if KK didn’t fany Enrique @ LB so long ago, then why haven’t we found someone else?LB and ACM were the priorities (after getting Colo) and at times we are crying out for some creativity.
MA certainly showed us that he isn’t gonna try and buy sucess.I would imagine most have spent more net cash this window, even Hull.I just hope that it’s because the really good players we wanted wouldn’t come because of no European football, not because we didn’t even try for financial reasons.I don’t wanna know that your a billionaire if you ain’t gonna spend any of it.I like MA and think he will steady the ship on the business side but NEVER will a premiership club be take over by a billionaire and spend less money. No chance.NUFC got nearly £7m Premiership prize money and £35m from tv rights.Free money.Specualte to accumulate.Any NUFC fan, rightly or wrongly, would have spent more than has been spent in this window.
At least in January I won’t care who the papers say we are linked with, they only got some of the signings right at the last minute. Most they had no clue about whatsoever.
Let’s hope that the players we have now gel and stay relatively injury free.I think a full strength team would play good football and win a lot of games.Top half of the table isn’t impossible but I wouldn’t be totally shocked to see us struggling near the bottom half.

Comment #68To those who say the squad looks good when there’s no injuries. Sure. You’re right. Unfortunately Newcastle are prone to injuries. You can’t go through a season just hoping that no one goes down. Take 3 out of the starting line up and we’re in a world of trouble.
I’d say we could’ve had a decent cup run this year, but with such a thin squad we can’t afford to play our first team midweek, and we can’t afford to give them a break if we want to win anything. A massive catch 22.

There are some absolute tossers posting here. Seriously, to read some of these comments it’s amazing you can type through your tears.
KK didn’t lie to anyone. Things don’t always go to plan. If you want to think that KK hates you, go ahead, he probably does. I hate you too.
WE ARE NOT CHELSEA. If you want a club that signs Deco, or some other hugely expensive players GO AND BY A F*CKING CHELSEA SHIRT AND LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
I’m also sick of the moronic hypocrytes posting here. Bitching because Mike Ashley is going to sell, and complaining that he’s in it for the money and then crying like a woman when he doesn’t sell the club to some rich Arabs. Make your f*cking minds up.
If you can’t decide whether you want him to stay or go, if you have nothing but complaints about our team, if all you want to do is complain, please take your comments somewhere else. I’m sick to death of them.
Get behind your team or F*CK OFF. It really is that simple.

Who was Henry when he arrived at arsenal? A right winger playing in the Juve reserves.
Who was Viera? Bog standard Midfielder who played 2 first team games for AC.
Adebayor anyone?
C. Ronaldo?
Fabregas? (Barca youth team!)
Santa Cruz?
Our very own Jonas and Guthrie..
Anyone remember Solano signing for us?
The list goes on.. Let’s actually try and be patient for a change..
