The Soap Opera That Is Newcastle United

Yet again Newcastle United is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Although we’ve been told that Kevin Keegan has resigned, or has been sacked, whichever report you want to believe, there is nothing official on the Newcastle United web site yet.

And we have heard reports that fans are gathering at St. James’ Park to protest Kevin Keegan’s leaving.

We just cannot believe what has happened today, but we suspect that things were said to Kevin before Monday, and the goods were just not delivered in terms of players, even though news is filtering through, that we trying to bring another two or three players through the door until midnight last night.

We also think Kevin probably feels bad, because of the veiled promises he made to fans, that all would be OK by midnight last night, with the “trust me” comment, but they weren’t.

But is that reason to smash the whole thing up, after all the team has been playing well, and Kevin’s magic was starting to work again?   We don’t think so.

We hear all the reports about Dennis Wise taking over, but this is bad news for the Newcastle fans, bad news for Kevin Keegan, very bad news for Mike Ashley, whether he understands that yet or not, and it’s a complete and utter tragedy for the Newcastle United Football Club,

These events make a mockery of our proud club.

Some of us love this football club, and have supported it all our lives, even when we were winning three cup finals in the 1950s, which we quickly got not used to.

And to see the club continually in the gossip papers, is very hard to take, to say the least.

Who is going to take this club out of being a Soap Opera?

Because that’s what is needed and we had high hopes, very high hopes that Mike Ashley could do just that.

Those hopes now look to be in tatters.

Comments welcome.

Dennis Wise will not take over. If he does then i have no doubt the Mike Ashley is a mackem in disguise, sent in to destroy the club.

It’s just a shame. The thing is KK is too good a man, too honest and in the end he got kicked out by a guy who is a bit of a recluse, someone who doesnt really I dont think support Newcastle.

It’s a sad day, because I thought even if KK stuck it out a couple of seasons and had the job of being able to bring in the players he wanted then a tleast we would be left with flare and passion that the got from KK to fight on after he left.

I dread to think who we will appoint and if Fat Ash mentions Wise I will go mad!!

Nicley written Ed i agree and i have always thought that NUFC are just a hollywood drama :). how can we have stabability when we have an average of a manager a year is it just me but i could of been good about the 2 signing because i believed so much in KK deep down everyone knows its MA, I really feel we do need a fresh start with people WHO CARE about this club like i do, we need people around this club like Baresford and people who loves this club then we can take a step foward, but as long as Ashleys here and i will always remember the lack on fund for KK and Big Sam we cannot move foward with him.

I’m utterly disgusted, What is Ashley at?
He can’t run a football club and wont give any money to spend,
We need new owners and thats it
Also we have no long term goals and that is what is wrong when managers come in.

This whole thing is an utter disgrace. Ashley has deceived the management, players, and fans. How dare he make promises of a “wow” signing, minutes before selling Milner from under Keegan’s nose, then making nothing but a loan signing and an unknown striker before the window shuts? Keegan can feel justified at leaving, because Ashley has made him, and the whole club, look foolish. He knows nothing, and if he Keegan is replaced by Wise, my 24 years of following this magnificent club will come to an end

Sorry to say lads, but after having just returned from St.James’ Park, I can confirm that Kevin Keegan has left newcastle united. I think this could mark the end of Mike Ashley’s reign also, as the fans changed from begging keegan to stay, to an almost riot to get Mike Ashley to quit when the news broke.

I hope for the sake of Newcastle United Football Club, Mike Ashley takes the hint and sell’s up as soon as possible, because it looked like some of the fans would of done time in jail if they got their hands on him.

    All:

Your official version to be announced in the next few hours.

Newcastle United had accepted an offer of significant investment into the club from Adhu Dhabi United Group.

As this developed through August a number of high profile world stars were lined up to sign for NUFC.

These signings were to be a statement of intent one of which is the now known about Robinho deal for Man City.

Kevin stated he did not want players motivated by money at the team he wanted a team with heart and soul. Mike Ashley supported Keegan and attempted to still bring in the investment. The ADUG thereon insisted on Keegans departure prior to investing.

The deal fell apart at the last minute because of Kevins caring stance that players must care for the club and want to play football.

Events of the investment in Manchester City now show you the ramifications of that decision not to sack Keegan. The money at the 11th hour was invested into MC and therefore this has caused huge difficulty for all.

The board are currently in discussions about resolutions to a number of issues. more later

Ashley will feel the full force of the Toon fans if this has happened. His millions that he spent buying the club will be worthless when the fans stay away. I t will be an UnWise thing to do if that little sh!t gets the job, even on a temporary basis.
We are completely down and out until we get another board who actually understands the club and fan base.

It’s so interesting what’s reaction from any fans at Newcastle,Keegan and MA after that.

Dennis Wise will never become NUFC permanent manager.

I have defended Mike Ashley on here more than once (not today if the rumours are true) but not even he would do something like that. Mind you I don’t think Mike Ashley will stick around to appoint a long term manager

On my reckoning we still have a good squad and i still think Gonzalez will turn out to be a good loan deal and Xisco a good signing.

From this window we could have 5 longterm quality signings for Newcastle- Coloccini, Bassong, Jonas, Guthrie, Xisco- that is pretty blo-dy good. Either Keegan can take them forward or a more modern international manager like Deschamps or Van Basten.

It is not all bad. Again, if Ashley sold tomorrow we would have a better squad and less debt, if not none, than when he took over a year ago. If Ashley hadn’t thrown Keegan in would we all be looking at this so badly, with a manager more used to this style of recruitment. We have recruited well , maybe not enough but not that bad.
