There’s Still Hope – Keegan Not Sacked!

Terrific news on the Newcastle United Web Site that Kevin Keegan has not been sacked.

Kevin Keegan – still Newcastle manager

Here is Newcastle’s Official statement:

NEWCASTLE United can confirm that meetings between members of the Board and manager Kevin Keegan were held both yesterday and today.

Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him.

The Club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future.

Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St. James’ Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the Club.

For the avoidance of doubt the Club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager.

This is heartening news – now let’s sort out the mess, and come January let’s have Wise and company have those players lined up – and light a fire under that recruitment team right now.

We should also point out, just to keep things in perspective, that this says nothing about Kevin Keegan’s actions, and he may still have resigned.

But with the action of the Newcastle fans tonight, we really doubt that if he has he will now follow through with that.

The other thing, again in the cool light of day, is why his situation has been allowed to become such a PR shambles is beyond us.

We must have the club communicate with their customers, the fans, in a much more timely and respectful manner, but perhaps that’s some of the problems Kevin has already pointed out.

We have to look on the bright side of this statement, the alternative is much more painful.

Comments are very welcome.

What a roller coaster. I hope it’s ended well and was blown out of proportion. This club needs stability.

Is it teriffic news? Keegan has apparently told people he’s been sacked, meaning the newcastle board have gone back on their decision.

So, will Keegan go back? Or will he walk?

I reccommend we stay cautious. There is no comment saying he is still manager.

I hope to god he stays. But i feel as though he will still go….

Very ambiguous statement I daresay we will have to be patient. I just hope Kev stays.

Keep thinking of the post from ‘The Grinch ‘ earlier today on the ‘Soap Opera That is Newcastle’ (130) which made a lot of sense to me and I have been pondering on it since.

    Grinch please update us.

Until KK comes out and confirms he is staying as manager I will continue to have serious doubts. The club statement is full of spin and could have easily been written by a scummy Sun hack.

    Big Wilson spot on.
    SACK WISE NOW
Give KK full control of ALL first team decisions.
including the buying and selling of players.
Think MA has shat his pants today.

He choose to resign last year…he seemed upbeat everytime, althought we lost on some transfer targets – that’s not the end of the world! That’s football these days and we have to go on with it.

Unite and stand together and play as a team, the fans are right behind you all! Howay the lads!

The NUFC pr machine is a disaster, I’ve never heard a squeak out of Lambias or whatever he’s called……KK only ever seems to talk to the press under sensorship so he’s inveritably lying.
Who do we believe in all of this?????
One thing is for sure Mike Ashley would be making a grave mistake to get on the wrong side of the fans……

I feel 100% better that Keegan is still there at the moment, I hope he’s still manager and feel sorry for him as the news storys spread all this morning and he doesn’t need this. Long live the king, the best thing for the season is having him there.

It was a very terse statement. Can’t believe it took them all day to come up with that. Top flight football is rapidly becoming a sick joke. There’s simply too much money now and no one is making reasonable decisions.

OK, he hasnt been sacked .. but what happens now ? Who can tell us ?
Its obvious he’s not satisfied with his impact on transfers and actually on the team.
Who can solve this questions ? MA should come out from his office and tell us what’s happening. Then he can drink as many pints as he wants !

How can Keegan go back and work with those muppets ???? He’ll resign.

Fire Wise and give Keegan funds and full control over transfer dealings , otherwise he’s just a puppet.

Can’t see it happening though, bye bye Keegan.

I also think Ashley may have got a little bit of a fright today. I don’t want Wise to be sacked, just told to focus on young players for our youth and reserve sides where we have made some potentially good signings. Most importantly though, KK needs FULL control of first team matters, who stays, who goes, and who we try to bring in. If that happens then i’ll be happy, if they can’t work together then Wise can do one. He means nothing to the club where as KK is our leader. In all honesty though, how long can it last?

Keegan has to take this opportunity to impose his conditions for continuing as Manager.

Wise, Jimenez, Vetere can stay as facilitators of HIS wishes on transfers. KK must insist on having the final word on all transfers and must be allowed to get personally involved in negotiations to ensure his targets are not accidentally/on purpose missed – probably what happened on Modric and Aimar.

The only way for Ashley to show his commitment to Keegan is to sack wise and give Keegan the run of the transfer market in January. I also think we should keep the other recruitment guys becuase they have brought some good players on board. The main issue is the players that we missed out on! which im convinced keegan would have swayed if he was at the lead of the negotiation.

The fact is we are going in the right direction okay alot slower than we would like due to our tiny squad. Keegan is the only manager for this club. he is our Ferguson
