This Is What We Think Happened With Keegan and Ashley

The next episode in the soap opera of Newcastle United, probably tomorrow,  will be when we find out what really happened, but this is what we think.

Kevin Keegan – hopefully tomorrow we’ll see him happy again

We think at the meeting yesterday afternoon, with the board,  it was apparent that Newcastle were not going to get the players they had wanted through the door, and understandably Kevin was not happy.

He was not happy because he had promised fans that they should “trust him” and wait until Monday at midnight. It’s also seems fairly obvious that Newcastle had some big irons in the fire, but they didn’t come off. for whatever reason.

At the meeting yesterday we wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin was so frustrated he walked out. As we all know Kevin does wear his heart on his sleeve. That may be why the board called another meeting at 10:00 am this morning, and we think at that meeting Kevin probably resigned.

Now Ashley and the Board were left with egg on their faces, and the rather daunting task of telling Newcastle United fans, that their hero Kevin Keegan, had left the club.

That may have been difficult for them.

So we think that’s why attempts were probably this afternoon to iron things out with Kevin, and the statement issued. It may be they still haven’t heard form Kevin, so this thing may not be over yet.

There may still be calls for Ashley to sell the club, but on the bright side, we know working relationships can be improved big time when push comes to shove and promises are broken, and there’s a huge argument, which is probably what happened.

People get to understand the other people a lot better, in the heat of battle, and where they are coming from.

We know Ashley is a bright guy, and there’s no way he was going to tell fans Kevin had gone, he’s not that daft. He may still go, but the Newcastle fans’ protest tonight surely will have let him know that he’s walking out on the fans if he walks out on the club.

That may not be exactly what happened, but it explains most things, including Newcastle’s silence until later tonight.

Comments welcome.

    Not sure about this …
But the main thing is that we didnt get the players KK wanted ! This shouldnt happened. If he continues as manager the board HAVE TO give him control in january transfer window and a blank cheque.

Keegan was sacked as he told close friends; however, Ashley has seen the consequences of such action and therefore, he is doing his utmost to change fans opinion. Keegan will not return unless there are major changes, such as the departure of Wise…

Keegan, please come back, you are Mr Newcastle and we all love you!!!!

Watching what is going on at Man City is gut wrenching. Their new owner is pondering a hundred and thirty five million pound move for C.Ronaldo. IF THERE ARE ANY FANS THAT DESERVE AN INVESTMENT OF THAT STATURE IS YOU GUYS THE TOON FANS.

in KK we trust, and KK trusts us, it was him saying that as it was from info given to him by MA and Wise, cant blame KK at all, KK has been aying for weeks we needed extra players, Milner deal was too good to turn down, great business, but i think KK was misled at some point. Would love to know who the players were tho!!and why they couldnt or wouldnt sign, if they spoke to KK they would sign without hesitation!!

I think Ashley needs to leave he’s a disgrace! i hate to say this you look at quinny for the mackems suited & booted always smiling & chatting away to people, paying for coaches for fans. Look at gibson always backs managers with cash always positive about the club & his manager & then look at what we’ve got, a cockney who thinks he’s a geordie trying to blend in with the fans but sticks out like a sore thumb! he’s a plastic geordie & it’s time to go! How about you put a vote on ED for “Should Ashler sell & leave the club?” see how many votes you get Ed.

I would very much like to hear from The Grinch again…………. That last post was either classic conspiracy theory, a great effort in stringing lots of coincideantal events together or dare I say it somewhere nearer the truth. One thing is for sure MA must have had talks with the ADUG at some point, that has pretty much been confirmed.

Mike Ashly was not involved with anything that happened today.
the meetings yesterday and ultimately today was between keegan and board.. i.s dennis wise.

there is a blatent power battle and can be only one winner.
for those of you who tell me about wise only being involved with bringing 6 youth players in a year,.. need to take a pill and smell the coffee.
since when does a youth scout warrent a place on the board~??
and somebody please explain to me what qualifies wise to be in this position.. serious question, i’m waiting for someone to explain to me how dennis wise sits as a director of football, at nufc ruling the roost over kk.
this is the same wise who was a average player, and piss poor manager.
directing keegan, a world great player and most successful manager for the toon in recent history.

If someone can tell me why dennis wise should not be forced to stand down… please do

In KK we trust and he knows that, he has been badly let down by figures above him, with false info and broken promises!! im sure we did have irons in the fire but who was dealing with these potential signings?and why did they not materialize? if KK was dealing hands on like he did 1st time round, im pretty sure we would have the players we all want for NUFC and players KK wants!!wise to go!!

Now wait a minute, I’m not signing that petition on the basis that I don’t see where Denis Wise comes into this. If Wise is only meant to be bringing in the youth which is what I always understood to be the case, why would we suddenly want him removed when this is what he appears to have been doing all along? I can’t see why you’re suddenly switching on Wise when he hasn’t really said or done anything I would judge as wrong (and before people say he’s in charge of transfers, EVERYTHING i’ve read is that Keegan has the final say with the Spanish connection working their magic).

If KK goes and Wise is appointed as manager of the team, then my opinion will change but this looks to me like people throwing knives in the dark.

Yes, the situation has been mismanaged but for god’s sake don’t start stirring crap which isn’t there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will do more harm than good my friend.

Only way I can see us moving forward (fan relationship-wise) is if Ashley comes out and actually appologises to the fans for allowing things to get so far…something along the lines of “I’m sorry a statement was not issued sooner, I have the club’s best interests at heart which is why we wanted to make sure everything was right and in place before issuing it…Keegan will now have my full support and also full control over transfers…etc.”

If he does that he’ll win back the majority of the fans…there will still be some who hate him and some too synical to see past it (even if it is just media spin – I don’t care, I want the club to settle down again!)

Well, lets hope Ashley will do what John Hall once did and persuade Kevin it will get better, that he does have support and he is in charge of the team.

That last bit is the key right? When KK theatened to walk out in the early 90s, John Hall basically told him it was his team to mould, his club to build. He kept him in by giving him his head and letting him run the show.

Ashley has to find a way to allow KK to do that. Now, in this present football climate of super spending most clubs have a two or three tier management structure. But that doesn’t mean the team manager is only a coach – the system varies. In some clubs there is a football director and a recruitment/development head but the manager can still broker deals too. Maybe that would keep KK happy?

I wonder if KK made a bid for Malouda without talking to Wise and Jimenez first? Remember KK joking about all the calls he was getting, and the papers reported it as a Keegan bid…but it strikes me that Wise and co don’t like giving up any of their authority. That has to change for Kevin to stay.

I still think Ashley and Keegan want the same for the club. I still buy Kevin’s argument that they both are doing their best for the club. I think its the people in between who are the problem.

    Anyone agree?

Here’s what I think, for what it’s worth.

Either Ashley sacked Keegan for moaning at him. After all, what has Keegan done wrong? He turned the club around on the pitch, and he got the players playing. The lack of transfer activity is Wise et al’s as much as it is Keegan’s. So Ashley could only have sacked him for having a go at him, which suggests Ashley is a bit of a touchy soul. I doubt that, cos you don’t get where he is in the business world by making rash decisions.

Alternatively, maybe Keegan walked out. In which case, he’d go down in my estimation. Maybe he isn’t in charge of transfers, and that annoys him. But so what? That won’t make a difference until January, and by leaving now, he’s taking what could have been a promising season and writing the whole season off. If he goes now, our entire season will be us floundering around trying to recover, hoping whatever 2nd rate manager who is still willing to be employed here can keep us out of relegation trouble before we sack him anyway in July. The fans deserve better than that.

Keegan is being selfish and disrespectful if he walks. Ashley is being stupid if he sacks Keegan.

What I reckon (hope) happened is that Keegan got in a strop and left the meeting early, stomping his feet and slamming the door like a tetchy girlfriend. That started the rumours and the club isn’t entirely sure if he has gone, hence the statement. Hopefully after a cool down period, Keegan will come to his senses and realise it’s not actually that bad and he should blummin’ well stick around to give the fans a tiny something to be happy about.

My god reading some of the messages on that petition is rediculous. You are throwing knives in the dark. Yes there may be someone at fault but don’t turn people in scapegoats.

Now I’m NOT saying Wise and Ashley aren’t to blame but you’re doing more harm than good trust me. This kind of behaviour is what the press thrive on and it must be stopped.

The biggest injustice is we don’t know what’s going on, truly, behind the scenes, everything we are hearing is coming from secondary sources so stop painting pictures in the pitch black!!!

A lot of people seem to be looking for a scape goat here – someone to blame for Keegan leaving us in the lurch when actually there is a very good chance that Keegan spat his dummy and just walked away.

The fact is none of us know the truth yet – no, not even the grinch!

I suggest we all try and chill out, get some sleep and hope that Keegan has done the same and in the morning there is finally some good news! 🙂

Be careful what you wish for; you might just get it. Yes, there are obviously some issues that need to be worked through, but let’s not forget that Ashley still has relatively deep pockets.

In the last few weeks Newcastle have brought in at least five quality players. We got Bassong and Colo at the back, Guthrie and Spiderman and now Gozalez in the midfield, and Xisco up front. In fact, the only position they haven’t properly addressed is left back, which they will hopefully take care of in January.

Yeah, it’s the team’s PR is a gong show at the best of times, but assuming Kev is going to stay on, and it certainly sounds like the team wants him to, I think there is a lot of cause for optimism. Try to see through all the press bull$hit!

I know for an absolute fact that KK has quit and will not be coming back, the club have purely stated that he is not sacked. The reason that he has been there all day id for a contract issue that needs resolving. The reason no one (suprising) was signed yesterday is because they were desperately hunting for someone to take over. You may not beleive this… but watch it all come out in the wash and remember where you read it first!

Sounds like a pretty likely series of events.

My hope now is that King Kev is persuaded to return tonight and face the fans, saying he is staying at the club. In return Mike Ashley gets Owen on a bumper new contract.

In an ideal world, the delay now in Keegan appearing in the media is because they are lining up Owen to appear alongside him and announce his new contract.

    Well, we can but dream…

Hope you are right Ed. It will be nothing short of a disaster if Keegan goes at this time. In short it will leave the club in the hands of London wide boys who simply do not ‘get’ NUFC or the people here in the North east. Keegan is the only remaining person with ‘power’ or ‘a voice’ that has links with the Newcastle. If he goes there is no one to carry our torch. He has to stay. If he goes so do I – and the rest of my family. The season ticket will be shredded never to be renewed. This is our Waterloo!!!
