There had been a lot of speculation, and even some facts mixed in, that a Premier League rival, thought to be Aston Villa or Portsmouth, or both, were interested yesterday in signing the skillful former Manchester City midfielder.
Joey Barton - I owe the Newcastle club and fans so much
However, Barton has now made it clear that it was always his intention to stay at St James’ Park, and pay back the club and the fans for the way they have supported him during his tumultuous one year at the club.
The 25-year-old returned to action for Newcastle, for the last few minutes of the game at The Emirates Stadium on Saturday, when the Magpies were taken apart by a brilliant Arsenal display of total football.
And he got a taste of the booing he will undoubtedly have to face this season from fans, and that’s just extra punishment for him for what he did, and he needs to take it and move on from that.
The Newcastle United club, and particularly manager Kevin Keegan, have supported Barton through his troubles, and the player seems very keen to repay the Tyneside club.
Barton told Sky Sports News tonight:
“I didn’t want to comment on speculation, but I didn’t want to leave Newcastle, because I owe the club and the fans so much because of everything I have put them through,”
Good words from Joey, and whenever he comes back, we will support the boy to get his life and career back on track - it’s never too late for that - whatever bad things he’s done in the past.
To us, he’s like the Prodigal son, and there’s nothing better than seeing someone overcome their demons, and have a good and fruitful life, not to mention a great football career, from now on.
Yes, we’ll get hammered for saying that, but hey – that’s what we’d like to happen, for the club, for Kevin Keegan, and for Joey himself.
Comments very welcome.

And NUFC WAS going to accept but didnt agree on what player would come. they wanted Diarra and Pompy put in Nugent who we didnt need as we signed Xisco.
Bit Gutted bout the signing confirmed was the ones we knew yesterday and this morning.
Lets hope Jan will be better.

That was a clever little play which climaxed in Joey pledging his loyalty to “his” fans. Is it that easy to manipulate people?

I wonder if this is genuine or his been told by the club to come out and say this?
either way it’s clearly an attempt to get disgruntled fans back on his side before he plays at SJP, i guess the last thing he, KK and the club want is a chorus of booes ringing out at SJP for one of our own again huh,
surely one for MOTD!
17 Shola Ameobi // Sep 2, 2008 at 3:36
Well, that last thing i suspected was that my brightest deadline day moment would be joey barton staying! Hes going to get shit everytime he plays away from sjp, so lets get behind the lad and give him something to play for at home.

Right, give him a (another) chance.
We are short on midfield department, and he is still a good player.

Prodigal Son is a bit too far, Ed. But he could begin by apologising about his ‘Vicious Fans’ comment. I thought ‘vicious’ was what Joey got up to in Merseyside on a night out with the extended family?
But there’s been so much biased and irrational spleen vented about Barton since Saturday that I’m inclined to back him to spite them all.

Yeah, I thought we’d find someone for LB. How did Bassong do at LB on saturday?
25 neeraj // Sep 2, 2008 at 5:11
i guess bassong is our back up left back, he did fairly well there, tamas kadar(if not on loan would be the third back up)
26 Matt // Sep 2, 2008 at 5:37
we have a joke of an owner who acts like he’s running a ma and pa shop of a club. 2 months to land players and we can’t pull off a piss up in a brewery. pathetic.
27 Steeley // Sep 2, 2008 at 5:47
Possibly…probably…in fact DEFINITELY the single most depressing transfer window I have ever experienced. Lets recap:
We have lost two of our better players (Milner and Faye), yet retained two of our worst (Ameobi and Smith).
Barton is still at the club. Not a bad thing some may say, but when you look at the wages he is on and the disgusting reputation he has now given our club, then compare him to Milner who wanted to stay but just wanted to be paid similar to Taylor - I think the the whole board need sacked for it! Especially when Milner seemed to show his very best in his last game, and is surely about to break into the England fold.
Keegan obviously has absolutely NO power! He didnt want to see Milner go, and was so desperate for a) a left back to be signed and b) for Michael Owen to resign that he declared both as urgencies months ago….neither has happened yet!!
There has been no WOW signing! Now I would expect this in a Jan transfer window but not a summer one! The two Argentinians have done well so far, but really, we needed a big AM in!
Our squad is threadbare! Even Keegan mentioned before Milner was sold that we needed 3 or 4, and we get two (actually one because one is a loan deal. No actually, make that -1 because we got rid of Milner too!).
I’d love to think that the guys we have will come through and show us wrong, but I’m sorry guys, all you supporters of Ashley (and I put my hands up, I was all behind him until I saw what happened in this window) - HE NEEDS TO GO SOON! Thanks for getting us out of debt and all that, but we need players, not a trimmed down wage bill!!
A grim season ahead methinks…
28 TB // Sep 2, 2008 at 5:50
I think I am the only one that loved this window.
If we had gotten Xisco and Nacho a month ago, and signed Colo, Guthrie, and Jonas tonight, everyone would be super excited about our deadline deals.
So lets look at the window in its entirety.
1) added 3 legit starters to our lineup. 2 of them (colo and spidey) are world class players that could play for a top 6 team.
2) kept our best players. (owen, given, Barton)
3) made great business move with Milner. That money WILL get used, either to further clear our debt, or to use when the Jan window comes around.
4) Got 2 deadline deals done. Keegan see’s alot of class in young xisco, hence the 5 year deal. We needed a big striker, and got one. We needed a playmaker, and we got a classic number 10. If Nacho’s skills transfer to the EPL, we will have a steal of a player. This years Elano??? maybe.
If everyone would stop being enamored with Man City we can realize that not many teams made a ton of deals tonight. Lets give Man city some credit on getting Kompany and Robinho, but lets not forget the price they spent on them.
The last thing i want is to be known as a team like chelsea or Spuds that just try to buy silverware. Man City is going to turn into that team if they dont win something soon.
29 TB // Sep 2, 2008 at 5:53
hey matt, did you miss the signings of our 6 new players from the last 2 months???
Jonas
Guthrie
Coloccini
Bassong
Xisco
Nacho
thats 6 new players that will play prominent roles on our team… we only lost 2 important players in Milner and Faye.
stop the doom and gloom. Lets back Keegan and MA and get ready for a great season.
I for one am happy we arent stuck paying stupid money for malouda or atouba etc etc.
30 TB // Sep 2, 2008 at 5:58
Matt - did you miss the signings of Jonas, Guthrie, Bassong, Coloccini, Xisco, and Nacho??? Thats 6 new players that will play prominent roles on our team compared to the 2 (faye and milner) that we let go.
Steeley - worst window ever??? uhhhh, faye and beye last window…. colo, jonas, guthrie, and possibly other great players this window. how you figure??

okay, that hurts a little.
32 neeraj // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:16
steeley isn’t it possible that players didn’t want to come to newcastle
we were no where near europe last season,
so currently we are like bolton with better fan base and history
we had bids where player rejected and in some cases the teams also rejected the bids……….
our team looks way better then last season both number wise and fitness wise
lets hope we have a good run till christmas, may be we would be in top 10 or something with couple of good result which might attract some players to our club
coz its easy to find another smith or ameobi
and the output would be nothing
and abt ameobi and smith
i would ask u a question, as a mgr who wopuld buy those players, one who doesnt know how to control the ball and other has forgot how to shoot……….
and its not easy to masnage 10 new comers in a squad, so we have brought in 6 hopefully in january we mite land in another 2
waiting for january

First I’ve heard of it, but a huge deal for the toffees.
36 Phil,Gosforth // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:31
Barton has played no decent football for this club,he is a hated man in most of English, maybe even world football. We have a bad enough time with the press/other fans without giving them ammunition.
We will regret not getting rid of him.I hope I’m wrong…… but I don’t thnk so.
37 Nick // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:33
Just because the squad is a bit small, it doesn’t justify keeping our over paid, sicknote deadbeats.
Barton is a pathalogical liar (he said he was innocent for 18 months!!). He now says he owes the fans so much. Well yes that’s true, but it is so transparent that no one else will pay him the stupid money we put him on.
38 Danish_Magpie // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:34
So after a relatively uneventful transfer deadline day for us, our squad looks as follows:
GK: Given, Harper, Krul, Forster
LB: Enrique, (Bassong, Zoggy)
RB: Beye, (Geremi)
CB: Coloccini, Taylor, Bassong, Cacapa, Edgar
LM: Zoggy, Duff
RM: Jonas, Geremi
CM: Butt, Guthrie, Barton, Nacho
ST: Owen, Oba, Viduka, Xisco, Smith, Ameobi, Carroll
In terms of depth we look like the fullback positions could be troublesome. I am surprised we did not bring in a starting LB and a backup RB, but we didn’t and we have to get on with it. I don’t want to even contemplate if Beye has to spend a few months on the sidelines… :-/
Also, the free transfer deadline is later, and we should bring in Appiah on a free!!
We have 7 first-team forwards now, so IF they all get fit, surely it would make sense to loan out Carroll and get rid of Ameobi or Smith?
Come on Kevin, start preparing us for the Hull game, and let’s make sure we thrash them.
39 TB // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:35
damn, i didnt know ManU sent Frazier Campbell to Spurs on loan to replace Berbatov…
obviously he isnt as good, but I didn’t want Spurs to get anything out of the deal
40 Matt // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:36
we didn’t sign a creative attacking midfielder other than a loanee? sorry but thats not ‘ok’ or ‘acceptable’. we have been crying out for a consistent AM since dyer left, has he been replaced? no. emre never produced, this should have been identified 2 years ago. i’m sorry but i don’t want to watch a CM pairing of butt and guthrie on a saturday night, not worth it. probably close to the most average centre midfield partnership in the top 15. even koumas and scharner is more exciting.
41 apan zhafran // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:37
why so many negative comments? U guys are ungrateful!!!!!!! our lineup is better than what we have last since bobby robson era!!!!!!!!!
fans like u destroy the team, u should instead support the lads! if we trying to emulate arsenal like all u guys wanted, we wouldnt have spend silly money and we DIDNT! i rather we build slowly like aston villa (martin o neil didnt spend too much on first year, 2nd a bit now 3rd year steadily he builds) and even heck everton! thats a good model to emulate dont u think?
about the WOW signing well thats paper talk not at nufc.co.uk right? u guys dont trust the papers yet u guys believe what u guys want to believe, and yes im a bit dissapointed we didnt sign a LB but i think we are covered until january right?
NONSENSE BS! be ashamed, be very ASHAMED if your a toon army and still wanted to sack MA or heck KK?! im lost of words no wonder people label us negatively
SLOW AND STEADY, and yes if u feel what im saying then its you! BE ASHAMED!
42 Oleg G // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:44
Oh god !
I agree with so many of you here.
The problem is more that MA was talking so loud and didn’t do nothing… then if he was not talking and not doing.
and KK back him up, saying everything is ok.
there are so many good players out there, and we didn’t get enough ! good that we got someone, but sorry, just not enough.
Ashley is now in the bad side of my book.

44 paul scot // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:54
barton’s a thug and should have been sacked. we lost all credibility by trying (and failing) to cut his wages. He knows he’ll never get the same money anywhere else so thats why he’s staying and not out of loyalty. We deserve everything we get in terms of trouble at the club as he’ll n ever change.
45 TB // Sep 2, 2008 at 6:55
We got 6 players. Not a bad window at all.
and Matt, why do you assume Guthrie - Butt is going to be our central midfield pairing?
Barton and Nacho are more than adequate to feature in the midfield.
Plus we can use a 4 3 3 with Owen as an attacking midfielder.
Even then, Guthrie - Butt is a good defensive midfield when we need to buckle down and help out the back four.
I’m with you Danish, but dont forget LuaLua. He should be our backup RM.
46 jon // Sep 2, 2008 at 7:01
You know ed I can’t help but agree. He will prove to be an asset, but it will take time. I think that this could be his seaon. It could be the drink, but I feel like he is dead serious when he says he owes us. It could just be misguided optimism and naivete though.

52 Nick // Sep 2, 2008 at 7:27
NUFC must be cursed. Apparently we were in advanced talks with the Abu Dhabi group, but Ashley tried to pump them for 30m more to cover his recent heavy gambling losses. It could only happen to us!!!!!!!!!
While city get Robinho, we still have to carry the weight of barton on our shoulders and live under that black cloud, along with Smith, Duff and Ameobi for company.
53 TB // Sep 2, 2008 at 7:27
toonking - we finished 12th last season. And that was with Big Sam for most of the season and a ton of injuries and bad luck going our way.
This year, we have had an offseason for Keegan to coach the team, and have added Jonas, Coloccini, Guthrie, Bassong, Xisco, and Nacho….
and your already acting like top 10 is a stretch???
calm down people. If we stay fit, we are gonna be fighting for a top 8 spot and hopefully a run for a cup.
and if things dont go our way, we have the January window with some money set aside from the milner deal.
Im excited for this season. Wait til Oba is back.

The arab group apparently looked at Arsenal, City and us - Arsenal’s shareholder setup was considered too complicated, and we were probably too far north and they hate the cold!! Pity though……..Shame Mike Ashley can’t afford to pay attractive wages but can afford to lose £5M in one session of roulette…….

very dissapointed with newcastle. ashley has not kept his words at all. i think he is going to sell up now like i thought he would. he has spent yet again not a penny this summer. it will be another bottom half finish for us this season as man u, chelsea, liverpool, arsenal, villa, spurs, portsmouth, man city, everton, blackburn, west ham will all finish above us, as may and it hurts to say this sunderland and middlesboro. our squad is rubbish. come on. lets get real here. we all wanted big name players to come in and excite and take us on, we will never get that again. we are trying to close the gap, as far as i can see we are now futher away than we have been before. am gutted. it pains me so much. the club is in dissaray, just like james milners grandad sed to me. really gutted this morning can i just say.
68 surey // Sep 2, 2008 at 8:10
To be honest KK is very smart guy. Look at how he let Faye go to stoke. He knew he can’t do us a job any more than Bramble did for us. Faye had no future whatsoever at SJP even we all cried to hang on to Faye. The same thing happend to James milner. He was never the kind of player KK wanted.
I am sure there a dozen of other players that are not in KKs plans but unfortunately he has to keep for some time now.
Remember KK said “There are only 7 and a half quality players”
69 Mick G // Sep 2, 2008 at 8:13
Unfortunaly players don’t want to come to Newcastle not just because there is no European football but for other underlying reasons.Love him or hate him The Joey Barton Factor is a reason. The press have got their teeth him to him now, and for those who say it doesn’t matter, I’m afraid it does.Remember decent players have a choice off clubs ,and when they see the way NUFC are portrayed in the press do you think they would want to be part of it? Add to that our owner being filmed “downing a pint ” in whats supposed to be an alcohol free zone, wearing a football shirt ,is that the global image we want?As I said earlier the press are after us,and we seem to keep supplying them with ammunition. It’s not all doom and gloom I think all the signings we’ve made will proove to be excellent ,and the squad is much better than this time last year. The main thing now is to keep them fit,and be prepared for everything the press are going to throw at us.By the way I’m normally very cheerful.
70 Richard // Sep 2, 2008 at 8:13
The only time I got excited at any point yesterday was when the news was filtering in that we might be offloading the 3 wise monkeys (Smith, Ameobi, Barton) and even that didnt come off!
Why the hell do we get promised things but it never happens, look at Man City - they have a new owner and he comes in and says I have the cash, you spend it and within 24 hours they have signed Robinho.
What happened to all the linked players Skjebred, Pocognoli, Inler etc, sure none of these players are WOW signings, but at the minute with our farcical management team we cant even tie the likes of Milner and Owen to new deals because they know things are going tits up.
Sure Mr Ashley, we are all for cost cutting and lower wages but a half empty stadium will not line your pockets.
Spend big = recoup big.
Spend little = NUFC 2008!
I have never felt so disillusioned and misled by my club, so ok Milner may have been good business but where did the £8/10m from that deal go to? Xisco only cost £6m and Gonzalez is only on loan. It looks very much like Mike is just in this club to make a fast buck!
GUTTED!
71 Archie Brand // Sep 2, 2008 at 8:14
If Barton wants to pay back the fans he could start with his 65K a week
The best payback would have been to see him leave.
If I was a “glass half full” type of person I would say that, injury free, we can put out a fairly decent team.
If I was a “glass half empty” type of person I would say that come the African Nations cup we’ll be struggling.
As I’m actually a Toon fan it seems pretty bloody obvious to me that the glass we’re using is the wrong size!!

secondly, although i think the squad is better than it has been for 3-4 years, i really though we’d invest in at least 2 more players before last night was over. i think we really lack quality cover in both full-back positions, and we simply need more quality in the middle of the park. plenty of graft there but very little in the way of a door-opener. still, not jumping on the “ashley out” bandwagon just yet, although i’m hugely disappointed we’ve actually made a profit in this tranfers window!! we could’ve signed two quality players and only been £15m down. disappointed more than angry
any word on a press conference today or what?
75 clinta // Sep 2, 2008 at 8:23
The fact that we don’t play in europe has been a problem in this transfer window, and that’s a fact!!!!
but all in all we’ve done okay I think and if we back the players, manager and MA ie: THE CLUB we should do alright this year and if were placed okay in the league come January we might have a better chance of getting quality in.
One thing that’s surprised me about the recent barton thing is that, well on the day it clearly divided fans, but since it seems alot (including myself) are now more inclined to back him.
2 scenarios: 1) he beats up a player on the pitch or an old lady at macdonalds, we sack him, he brings disgrace back to our club, the media have a field day, sell alot of papers, KK’s proved wrong.
2) he puts his head down, and with support from the toon faithful gets back to his best, and is a quality player for years to come, those things that happened earlier in his career?? what were they?? are nearly forgotten.
I’d prefer option 2 wouldn’t you? being a newcastle fan?
76 apan zhafran // Sep 2, 2008 at 8:23
pathetic and ungrateful comments, sack mike ashley now just because we didnt get the arab, are u sure the arab wont want to recoup their money back, the only team i know that dont mind spending cause he got bottomless pit is CHELSKI but now also they are feeling the heat and they dont spend like nuts (they dont even willing to add a few mil more for robinho) thats tell u A LOT! i see loads of fans here, but not true football fans i guess
slow and steady is the way to go dont u think?, not just a quickie, just like making love wooooo i guess most of em here love quickie, its ok once in a while but SLOW AND STEADY IS THE WAY TO GO idiots!

ed. you may want to put something out on this which i have just found.
Kevin Keegan future at Newcastle United was back in the balance last night after a summit with the club’s hierarchy.
The Newcastle manager was called into a 2pm meeting yesterday which club insiders described as ‘very important but not related to transfer business’ and it is believed a heated discussion took place, with managing director Derek Llambias making it clear they were not happy.
The situation has been coming to a head with Keegan stressing he needs more players, yet apparently he has been told that every player in his squad has a price.
Keegan’s loyalty to bad boy Joey Barton is believed to be a bone of contention with owner Mike Ashley, who tried to move the player out of the club when he was jailed. Keegan also wants to build a team around striker Michael Owen but the club’s contract offer has left Owen in a difficult position.
Yesterday, coach Chris Hughton informed Keegan the club were looking at Lazio defender Gugliemo Stendardo but the move was later ruled out by executive director Dennis Wise.
It is understood that Keegan had little knowledge of the signings made so far, including yesterday’s deal for striker Xisco from Deportivo and the loan capture of Nacho Gonzalez from Valencia.
To add to Ashley’s frustration, he was spoken to by police after downing a pint of beer during his side’s defeat to Arsenal on Saturday in view of the pitch which is not allowed.
84 wigaz // Sep 2, 2008 at 8:44
So Ashley was full of Shit after all eh! big surprise! I think we have got some talented players in who will do well for the club but we have to give them time to shine! Our squad is quality the only problem we have & have had for years is the injurys! if we can improve that then maybe we’ll be ok. Team VS Hull.

Not to bad. And if we can get barton back (hopefully Fa will go easier on him) Viduka & duff fit & stay fir then we should be ok. Top 8 i think may be best finish realisticly. If we snag Carling or FA cup then we could get in to Europe & build from there! once Ashley sells us to one of those potential buyers, sorry but mike out! he’s not the man we need! not willing to invest where needed! i think we owe a thank you to Jimenez as you can see all players bar guthrie we got in are from over seas! especially the spannish & south americans!

I am very depressed about Barton, Smith and Ameobi not leaving and Owen’s total lack of commitment to NUFC, even as captain.
I am also exremely depressed about being passed over by the Abu Dhabi group due to Ashley’s greed in wanting more money and being a compulsive gambler.
However, I am glad we did not sign Atouba. Left back is not such a big problem, as we have Edgar, Bassong, Kadar and Tozer who could all do a job, which Atouba couldn’t have as he’s c..p!
Also maybe Gonzalez is the ”door opener” we need. I know nothing about him, but then I didn’t about Spidey.

Blerred - I think you might be wrong about the arabs selling to make a few quid, was listening to talk sport on the way in and they had interview with some business journo who knows the owner very well, basically said they are now looking at a £120Million bid for manu’s ronaldo “just to see what would happen”, as well as torres and fabrigas (?spelling) but heho who gives a sh!t about them……
Dont think we will pick anyone up in jan either, not being doom n gloom but there are never any great transfers in jan the better players dont leave their clubs at that time of year, unless their season is finished……when does Zenits season finish again…. nah maybe not !

Guys - can we please stop all the negativity - it is making me sicker than the fact we have not brought in more players - as everyone is. Having said that the club has brought in 5 players that have improved our squad. Think back to what we started with last season from the manager down. Yes we still have some dead wood and KK knows that - this is a long term plan and there was never going to be a quick fix. I implore you to have patience and back the team, the manager and the board. Financially we are in the best position we have been for many a year. Lets not give the gutter press ammunition. Lets live up to our name Newcastle UNITED !!!!! the only thing i’m disappointed about is the numbers. the squads pretty thin.
dunno if anyone has mentioned this yet, but talksport were reporting this morning on a heated meeting between kev and ashley last night, as Keegan questioned the strength and depth of his squad upon the realisation that no more signings would be made.
cant be good news if there’s any truth in it?

Well there are still players available considering we’re light in midfield. We don’t have any strong running legs for the centre, and with Barton expecting to be banned we’re light.
Steven Appiah is on a free so we should go for him!!!
I’m really not happy with the lack of activity. We’ve moved on 8 players from the first team squad and brought in 6 players. We already had a thin squad, now its got even thinner. Yes we have versatility, but we needed a couple more. At the very least a LB and CM in addtion to Xisco and Nacho!

Edgar is crap and you put Butt twice so that’s 21.
LB is a disaster. Enrique, Zog and Bassong. Enrique is only decent himself but if he gets crooked were fooked. Same on the right, if Beye gets injured…..will you trust Geremi ?? i won’t.
“energy and guile in the middle” what, where ?? Butt and Guthrie is the most boring and average middfield in the league. We desperatly need Barton to step in for Butt but that’s the only decent midfield we can put out. Let’s see this Gonzalez guy but he plays in the hole.
all in all we do still have a decent side..IF we are fit . A couple of injurys will send is spiraling down…..
Dunno what the board was thinking that they didn’t bring in a midfielder.

This is a very short paragraph that I have written @ my blog after seeing the video of that tackle on Nasri:
Since the first day of Joey Barton of joining us, we have seen him getting into troubles because of what he did when he was with Manchester City. He was sued and sent to prison a few times. Some of us have already expressed the feeling of getting Joey out of the door. That made sense, but that’s not what we as supporters should do.
When he was introduced in the match vs. Arsenal and made a tackle on Nasri, people booed him. Does Joey deserve that kind of treatment? NO WAY!
… besides, especially to jealous Nasri, it was a good clean tackle if you watch more closely!
Can we be more calm and less rebellious?
114 Nick // Sep 2, 2008 at 9:29
Mag1pie - I am absolutely gutted looking at the gloating man city fans. That should have been us.
Apparently it wasn’t just the fact that Ashley wanted another 30m off them to cover his heavy gambling debts, but the egotistical greedy bastard wanted to keep his controlling share.
So now we have Ashley with barely 1 billion, instead of 65 billion.
I akkways like Ashley’s approach before this, but now I’m totally GUTTED. ASHLEY OUT !!!

116 bettyswollocks // Sep 2, 2008 at 9:32
i think the reason a lot of people get so depressed on here is that there are quite a few younger fans who have only ever known the spend spend spend regimes of hall/shepherd/keegan.
i’m 32 and when i first started going to games in 1986 I was treated to the skills of beardsley and gazza at first. but back then we truly were a selling club with no ambition. both those players were soon gone and it wasnt long before we had a midfield with billy askew and kevin dillon in it. we were utter toss and spent nee money.
some of you just don’t realise how good we have got it. we have a canny little squad and it’s much better than it was last season. the club is now built on a foundation provided by the supporters - not some arab multi trillionaire.
of course sky loved what happened yesterday but for me it was just saddening to see the state of the game now. it was bad enough with roman at chelsea but now the game is just a cock showing competition for the mega rich.
for me city can stick their new found wealth up their arse. I’m happy enough for us to build a club on foundations which are self sustaining and supported by us - the fans - the mighty toon army.

I have 2 regrets!!
First, I have paid 2k for 2 season tickets. I bought my son three shirts so far this season including the home one because last seasons was knackered!! So I have poughed a fair bit of my hard earned cash into CASHLEYS pocket for little return. He has pocketted the lot!!
My second is, I have lost my list which i have been making up for the last 6 months of the CASHLEY lovers on here who have been shouting me down with quotes of ” Ashley will Back KK to the hilt” “I will be loving it when the signings are done and you look stupid” etc etc etc and many many more quotes.
MY OPINION!!
CASHLEY is a toss pot who does not give a flying frig about my club, he has as much proven this with his profit making wheeling and dealing in the transfer market. POUNDS and not players are all that counts in his eyes!
Dennis Wise has to be the worst appointment as a company Director on this planet. Who is gonna sign for this little shit house, alot of you talk about Joey Barton and how he is a thug? Our Football Director was up in court for beating up on a 60 year old taxi driver!!! He is a wanker, I wouldnt sign for him!
Jiminez, the property developer, lets go and sign all spanish players as i can speak spanish!! Say no more!!
Llambias…..Runs a casino where CASHLEY keeps whacking millions of pounds of gambling money into his coffers, if there is no conflict of interest there i will eat my arse!!
Now to all you CASHLEY supporters, keep on supporting him, its your perogative, but dont shove it down my throat that he is doing good for may club/team.
Blind promises to us and the Manager will eventually, like his squad, run extremely thin!!
KK statement after he agreed to sell Milner ” The fans have to trust me, when they see what will happen over the coming days all will become clear” He has obviously been told there will be players coming in, not on about a poxy loan of an unproven player and the bargain basement sigining of a Spanish under 21 international with a goal every 4 games ratio, in the spanish league, he has been told others that havent even been sorted or in the pipeline!!
We are now way behind spurs, portsmouth, everton, aston villa & Citeh!! we are fighting for a top 10 place never mind a top 6, and when we finish no higher than 10th, how the frig are we gonna sign players who want to play in europe? This is alot of peoples logic on here is, ‘we arent in europe they wont sign’
I would luv it, luv it if CASHLEY sold out to the Indian…..lets face it, he has already sold the fans and his Manager up the river!!
122 Patrick (Pizzicato) // Sep 2, 2008 at 9:38

Yea… Barton will be a good player playing the position of Butt’s. Remember the tackle! He’s not afraid of taking tackles like that and the Brazilians don’t like those (and you know I am talking about Robinho, Elano, Jo and more)
123 Bosck // Sep 2, 2008 at 9:38
mag1pie - the fact is this…. its you that dont have a clue.
man city bid randomly for any striker they could yesterday and sold their best defender. their manager was shocked to find out they had put in a bid for berbatov, and was playing golf all day so obviously had no say in any of the transfers.
their new owners are demanding top 4 this season which aint gonna happen, and remember the inportant fact that this group is an investment group. i.e. they will likely be looking for fast cash, once they realise it is not gonna arise they may well walk away.
robinho has clearly joined them for the sake of money alone. as he supposedly had his heart set on chelsea hours before!!!
Ashley was willing to back keegan for any player he wanted. the point was he wouldnt pay more than keegan felt the player was worth, and clearly some of the people we were after were way over valued (£15m for felaini?, £30.75m for berbatov) stupid money.
thankfully we are taking villa’s approach of building bit by bit and slowly building for the long term not making stupid unsustainable signings.

I am actually glad Joey wanted to stay, it may sound stupid on my part after all he has done, but I truely want him to prove all the doubters wrong - as we know he has the ability to…
I’m pretty happy with the signings we have made, but I’m more than unimpressed with the way our board and possibly even KK have acted throughout this window, promising things and not delivering. I dont believe for a minute that MA had backed KK in the way we expected. If he had any intent he’d of at least let slip on the bids he did make and may have been rejected, instead of leaving us (the fans) thinking the didnt try.
All of you who think the Arabs are in it for a quick buck are hugely mistaken…I’m actually going to be worried at how strong Hughes will make Man City. From what I have read/heard, the Arabs didnt want us due to MA not allowing them full control like Thaksin Shinawatra has at Citeh…Thaksin still has some shares, but has given full control to the Arabs, where as MA wouldnt do this, leaving us in the s***e
Just hope the FA go easy on Joey now, we need him playing.

maybe we would have spent 100 million if they didnt have to clear all the debt that the shepherd/hall axis had mounted up. If you wanna be angry at someone go and see mr hall with the nigh on £50 mil he took out of our club. or even mr shepherd sitting on the £33 million he managed to weed out.

51 Times - thicko? Seriously, that’s the best you can come up with?
All I can say is you must be some loyal fan to have been born and bred in Newcastle yet choose to be known by a reference to Rangers superiority in a worthless, tin cup, two horse title race. Nice one mate.
I mean, I know we haven’t won anything in a very long time - but you must be seriously desperate to jump into bed with a load of sweaty socks! Haha!!!

These are direct Keegan quotes:
“The owner is 100% committed to this club. I would think there is a very good chance of getting three or four players in, but Mike Ashley can only give us the ammunition – that is the finance.”
(WHAT FINANCES 5-7 MILLION SPENT NET THIS SUMMER!)
“With Dennis Wise, Tony Jiminez, Derek Llambias and Mike Ashley we’re working really well to get quality players in,”
(QUALITY???? A SPANISH BENCH PLAYER AND ANOTHER UNKOWN THAT VALENCIA DONT WANT)
“I do not think we have ever been closer than we are now”
(REALLY…??? ONE WORD….MILNER…..IN FACT HERES ANOTHER WORD…. BARTON…STILL CLOSE?)
“I haven’t got enough players. I have lost five forwards and I’ve not got any people to come in”
(AHHHH REFRESHING THE TRUTH)
“The fans shouldn’t be worried. I’m certainly not – and, if I was, I would tell them.”
Well Kev, i am worried and you integrity has been called into question this summer. Prehaps this has been down to others, but as your the one the fans look to, your comments are what a lot of fans hang their faith on and have been let down.
Now show yourself to the fans and please explain our summer of discontent……please someone, Mr Ashley you do need to explain. Particularly when you had the chance to sell to the arabs at Man City. Mr Llambias come out from where ever it is your hiding and please comment on the apparent FAILURE of Wise and his very expensive recruitment team!
We know Kev will face the fans, he always has. Now we need the big boys to show some face and tell the truth……or it wont be long before Ashley will not be wecome at the home he owns, never mind have a ‘pint with the fans’!
VERY DISGRUNTLED FAN!

Welcome back the Doomsday mongers
You lot are a disapointment to other Newcastle fans
At the end of the day are team is playing better football than we have for canny few seasons. You can’t expect miracles and you cannot expect proven world class palyers to come to our club when we can’t offer european football. For all you lot know we might have tried to buy shit loads of top players but can’t persuade the players to to come to the club. And if the top players won’t come then whats the point of buying players if they don’t improve on the players we have.
Most of these promises you lot are talking about are based on paper talk and keegan has brought in nearly the amount he said he needed to anyway. Yeah i know its gutting to lose Milner but if he wanted to go then it was probably for the best.

For the first time I don’t have any expectations on the new season. Maybe thats a good thing.

to be honest i’m happy with signings. If only we could get robinho too….it doesn’t matter we have a world class striker in owen.

I’m in mixed feelings about Barton coming out giving it large about wanting to “Repay the fans”. I was a huge fan of his when he was at City, but he hasn’t shown anywhere near the form since joining Newcastle and I just can’t see him getting a break as their is still a large section of our own fans who can’t stand the site of him.
As for the transfers in and out, I think we will struggle if we pick up a few more injuries….
Out:
Ramage
Carr
Faye
Rozenhal
Milner
Emre
Troisi
In:
Gutierrez
Guthrie
Coloccini
Xisco
Gonzalez
Bassong
Don’t get me wrong, we acquired some quality during the close season, but we still needed bodies through the door to ‘beef up’ the squad as it was thin last season, but even thinner now. And now the window is shut until January we need to pray for a clean bill of health for the lads.
Viva le Kevolution!

Chicken - What a small minded bigot you are. I don’t have to explain why I support Rangers to you, but I will explain why I choose to be known as 51times. It’s simple really - I’m on an NUFC blog, talking about NUFC. Even subhuman waste like you can make the connection there. So why not have a name that expresses my loyalty to the Gers?
And as for questioning my loyalty to this club? Who’s the one calling one of our own players scum? I question YOUR loyalty to this club, you’re probably one of the moron boo boys who never shut up when we don’t play well.

Milner didnt want to go as i mentioned above! And its not for the best at all. He is one of the most promising youngsters about
144 MMNUFC // Sep 2, 2008 at 10:10
I think Mr Ashley has made a serious own goal, the fans are beginning to feel alienated from the club and that our loyalty is being taken for granted.
I am no fan of sheperd but at least he thought big, yes he gambled with our money and failed but he spent big. I am not saying that ashley should have gone and payed silly money for players but i do think that good players went for reasonable prices and we missed out, either because we were out bid or because the recruitment team(i use that term lightly) did not do enough to convince the player that we were the right club for them.
The point is that Keegan should be the one meeting these players, chasing and showing them how much he wants them in his team. A man in a suit is not going to wax lyrical about a team he has never played for and cant emphsiase what it is like to wear that black and white shirt, Keegan can.
Very unimpressed

We drew with a weakened Manure team, we struggled to beat Bolton, we struggled to beat a poor championship side, we got out played and outclassed against very young arsenal side, should have been 6-0 at least!!
Tottenham will improve, they have proven quality in there team.
Portsmouth didnt do to badly at the weekend, Everton are hit and miss at the minute, but were worthy 5th placed finishers last season, Villa have improved greatly over the last 2 years and have added quality to their team without losing any players!!
I think may points are valid, we have sold more players than we have brought in, we have gained more money than we have spent. If Nacho is crap, and Xisco cant hit a barn door, cracks showing in young guthries game when against a top midfield, colo and guti will tire at some point this season!!
And if any of them get injured????????????????????

I have been an Ashely fan, but starting to change my mind now. I do think he has done us a lot of good, but I still had hoped for more.
I didn’t ever expect a big name signing and have been very happy with what we have got up to now, but I did expect some cover for left back. What we have isn’t good enough if we have Zog playing there. I can’t comment on who we brought in yesterday as I’ve never seen them play, lets just hope they can do their stuff.
As for Barton being our best midfielder, how can people say that, whats he done for us? Since he came he has caused more problems than enough. As for people who say all the bad things happned when he was playing for Man City, tell that to the poor kid who he beat to a pulp on the 26 Dec 2007. I seem to recall was too injured to play for us, but fir enough to be out on the drink and u
