Good news this morning, as it seems cooler heads have prevailed and Kevin Keegan is in talks with Newcastle United and the club, and in their latest statement, the club have reiterated that Keegan is still manager.
Kevin Keegan – still manager of Newcastle United
This statement was posted on the Newcastle United web site this morning:
Newcastle United Football Club can confirm that discussions are ongoing between the Board and Kevin Keegan.
Both the Club and Kevin would like to reiterate that Kevin remains as manager. He has not resigned nor has he been sacked, as has been confirmed in respective statements made by Kevin and Newcastle United Football Club.
We think Kevin and Mike Ashley will be discussing how the club should be run, that is acceptable to both parties. But it’s clear Kevin has to be the number one man.
He is in any case, so if Mike wants to keep him, we think Kevin will have to be in charge of everything to do with players, both buying and selling. They will also have to fix other things that have not been working for Kevin too.
He should have been of all player personnel in any case, because otherwise it just will not work, which the club proved on Monday.
But this has to be taken as a positive sign, because if Kevin can manage the club for the next few years, we are almost guaranteed success, and a team that plays good football.
Already the games at Man United and Coventry this season have been two great games of football entertainment, and we didn’t lose either game, in the process.
We hope there is a rapid conclusion to this, because most fans are just fed up with all of this nonsense.
If Kevin stays – we’d hate to be Hull City a week come Saturday.
